A waste of a lot of money
DC39 Multi FloorMAY 2014-Dyson Service do not listen to described faults at all. "There is nothing wrong with your machine Maureen!" We have checked it, you must have dirty carpet. Our next stop is Fair trading NSW.Bought on recommendation of Pest Control people. What a waste. Covered in dust every time you empty it. Poor ergonomics with slightly arithitic hands. Dust bunches up at inlet. Filter takes 3 days to dry. Need an extension cord to get more than one room. Accessories are hard to change, same system as emptying.
Expensive and no better performance than $99 Aldi knockoff

DC39 Multi FloorI have owned the DC39 Animal for 18 months now. I have not had a breakage. I will need to replace the rotating brush-bar soon, as the brushes are getting worn. Powerful suction, superb filtration, and a good range of accessories. With the spinning brush-bar you do need to cut hairs / fibers away after every 2nd use on average, but it's pet hair and dirt removal efficiency is staggering. You will find yourself having to empty the canister twice for a carpeted 3 bedroom home, if you vacuum once a week (and have long hair dogs). Once (and ONLY

I have found it's hard to remove any fine dust stuck on the insides of the cyclones, unsure of how to do it easily without dissassembly or if it adversely affects performance. Power, dirt/hair removal efficiency/ability, filtration, tools available, cord length. It is hard to empty the canister without thinking it's going to break (flimsy feeling hinge), canister capacity could be bigger, clear parts look ratty after being abraded by dirt swirling.
Best vacuum ever tried in my life.
DC39 Multi FloorI bought Dyson 39. Used it for almost 2 years and now I am writing my review .
I encourage my sister to buy one too, since every year I believe there are new model in markets she got dyson54. She is using almost for 4 months always thanks me for given her the advice.
I will recommend to any one who can afford to buy it. It really worth the price. It is always good to price much the products, that way you can save a lot.
I price much good guys and havey Norman . Also good guys was abit cheaper I spoke with the right person in Harvey Norman since I am happy with their services I got Dyson 54 for my sister for $640 .
Very reliable, empty it and see it.
Works well for me
DC39 Multi FloorCan say I have had no trouble at all with my DC39 i have owned it for over a year now and I have had no problems at all great on my wooden floors and even better in the bedrooms easy to clean and way better than my old vac can't say anything bad about the product so a very big thumbs up from me !!!!
It is very effective and works well on all surfaces

Good if you don't have a sore back!!!
DC39 Multi FloorI did love my Dyson DC39 !!Now my back is sore its a long drawn out battle to vacuum my floors in which I have given up at the moment!!
The problem I have with the Dyson DC39 is that the floor tool that comes with it really pushes larger particles of dirt around the floor and I have to lift it up a bit or take of the head to pick up bits of dirt that the head hasn't picked up
I only wish that it came with the Hard Floor tool as I bought this vacuum specifically because I have all wooden floors and only a couple of rugs.It takes me much longe
... Read morer to vacuum because of the head pushing the larger dirt particles around the floor. I can't really justify paying another $50 for a hard floor tool! I have recently had a very sore back and have realized unless I fork out $50 for a hard floor tool i'm wasting my time vacuuming as I'm just shunting large pieces(size of confetti) of dirt etc from one place to another and it takes me 4 times longer to do my floor so now I'm just using my microfibre oates broom now until my back gets better!!!! Easy to manouevre lightweight The head that the DC39 comes with pushes larger bits around the floor instead of picking it up.It would be good if this vacuum came with the hard floor tool or an option to buy it for an extra $20 on purchase
Great suction but impossible to empty without getting covered in muck!
DC39 Multi FloorI love the suction and general use of our Dyson DC39, however emptying it without needing to hook bits out of the drum is impossible. The drum needs to be better designed. The attachments are great I find them easy to change and we purchased a hard floor tool separately and it is fantastic.
However due to the poor design of the drum and the frustration every time we empty it which is every time it is used I would not recommend this model. Come on Dyson get it sorted!
Great suction and removes pet hair wonderfully!
Horrible and immposible to empty without creating a mess! Bad design.
Extremely Frustrated
DC39 Multi FloorI was excited to purchase my new Mr Dyson DC39 but unfortunately I am now very disappointed and frustrated. Hard to empty. Turbine head continually blocks and doesn't rotate. Continually cutting threads and hair that accumulate around turbine head. Not happy spending so much money on a vacuum I will be throwing away.
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you are unhappy with your machine.

Unfortunately, many machines with a rotating brushbar will require maintanence to keep it working at its best. DC39 Multi FloorWhen it's working it's effective however the turbine head keeps stopping and I spend forever trying to get it going again. Extremely frustrating as it is not very effective without it. Shame they can't come up with a better idea. I feel like throwing it, it makes me so angry.
Efficient when working.
Bad design. Spend half my time vacuuming trying to get the head going.
Thank you I was thinking about buying a Dyson but after reading so mani reviews I change my mind.....
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you are having an issue with your turbine head. Your turbine head needs to be cleaned every 3 – 6 weeks. If it isn't working as it should, try the checkpoints below:
... Read more - Make sure the red or purple plunger disk at the side of the turbine head is pulled out - Has the filter in your machine been washed recently? The filter can affect the suction of machine by up to 60% - Slide each end of the plastic brush bar off of the turbine head. The left side of the brush bar pulls off to the left of the head, away from the black plastic piece in the middle, the right piece slides to the right. If they are stiff, give them a gentle wiggle, gentle pull and mind your fingers as you pull the brushbar out. Take note which side they come out from as they only go back on the side they were pulled off from. - Reassemble the turbine head making sure the grey soleplate of the turbine head is fitted securely - Make sure there is no blockages inside the hose, handle and extension tube of the machine - Make sure the machine has strong suction without the turbine head - Reassemble and test the machine If you are still having an issue with your turbine head please email [email protected] and we will be in touch. DC39 Multi FloorI bought my wife a DC39 earlier this year. She had heard a lot of positive things about Dyson vacuum cleaners and was basically insisting that we went with one of them. I didn't object as I had been a convert to Dyson products. Two years ago I bought three Dyson airblade hand dryers to use in my business and my sister has their bladeless fan, fantastic products and worth the extra price tag. Sadly the DC39 has been an extreme disappointment from day one. We use it on wooden floors and low pile carpet. Compared to our old conventional Electrolux

To unblock it requires a degree of mechanical knowledge and force and not something I would suggest my wife tackle. My family (and our au pair) have given up on it on my last trip and say they would rather use the old Electrolux. The au pair's complaint was that she had to carry scissors in her pocket when vacuuming to continually cut the hairs off the head to keep it operating. Are we missing the point or is this just an overpriced, poorly designed piece of garbage. (again my au pair's words) Compact Expensive, continually blocks.Worst vacuum I have ever owned in my life. DC 39 Animal
DC39 Multi FloorI have always owned Dysons which have flawless suction.
There was only one problem with the older products, but it has remained with the news ones.
The clip, which holds the two accessory tools, and attaches by snapping onto the flexible hose, is always sliding down the hose and this is really annoying.
The alternative to stopping vacuuming and continually sliding it back up, so that it doesn't bang into furniture, is to remove it when you are vacuuming, but then you have to go wandering off to find the smaller attachments when you need the
Absolutely useless on carpets
DC39 Multi FloorWhy do they call it multi-floor when it just does not work on carpets. It will not pick anything on carpets and you are better off picking dirt using a broom. I am so dissapointed, after owning Dysons for over 8 years this felt like daylight robbery. Not worth it for the price. DON'T BUY!
Unwrapping it when it arrived, and that was it.
Its misleading name, it is not for multi floors. To be used on smooth tiles ONLY.

DC39 Multi FloorI read all the reviews & most of them put me off.I went ahead & bought it anyway as some may be from the opposition ? I have had an upright Dyson for over 10 years & have replaced a few bits & pieces of very little value & she still works as well as the day I purchased her; only she's at my home. You can't argue with that for value for money! Initial outlay more than the others yes, but it has a longer life.I have purchased the DC 39 for the rental I'm staying at.After having Cancer & chemo this year, Ive found this design much easier & lighter
... Read moreto use than my 10+ yr upright & it has powerful suction. You can vacuum with other cheaper brands, go over it again with the Dyson & still pick up dirt & dust off the floor & see it in the barrel. The difference between a Dyson & all the cheaper models is that they don't spit out bits of microscopic dust & pet dander at the back of the vacuum, like the others. Also they are very durable & not just cheap plastic either as someone said on here. No bag to replace, usually good customer service/back up. When my friends vacuum there's sometimes a sort of dusty after smell, but you don't get that with the Dyson because of all its hypoallergenic filters etc.You can lift wand up 2swap attachments not just down as someone said. I nearly got sucked in to the cheaper models saying 'buy me' as one even had a barrel, but it didn't have all the positive high tech goodies that the Dyson had. I can rest knowing that all that crap thats come in on my carpet or on the floorboards (that can give me allergies & asthma) is Gone! Easy to move around, gr8 suction & good for people with respiratory problems or pets. A week after purchasing & being told I had a run out model, the price dropped by $95. Also, like ALL vacuums, it won't pick up bits of cotton off the carpet :( unless I change 2a different head attachment or pick it up. Nothing in life is 100% perfect though!A very hyped up Vacuum cleacer
DC39 Multi FloorMy husband researched vacuum cleaners to the point of being ridiculous and found that dyson were extremely good. I asked around and found that people who own dysons seem to love them. We settled on the DC39 and I must say I am quite disappointed with it (note that we only have hard floors and a couple of rugs and are using the multi-floor head -muslce head- only). Good points first. 1) it does have great suction and lifts obvious bits out of our rugs; 2) The wand handle felt a little strange in my hand at first, but a really nice feature.
... Read more 3) Packs away quite nicely, there is a groove on the barrel where the tube attaches, but it is quite wide. So for smaller broom closets it may be a fiddle to get in. We have to unplug the hose to shut the door. Now the bad (and there's a lot!!) 1) it is quite an expensive vacuum cleaner when all I generally use to for is to suck up dust. Yes, the suction is great, but I think a $200 vacuum cleaner can suck up dust just as well. 2) I find the multi-floor head (muscle head) extremely frustrating. Because our floors tend to get very dusty, the dust gets caught in the bristles of the head and seem to clog everything up. So unless you spend every 5 minutes sucking the accumulated dust out of the bristles, the head just pushes other things (like sand, leaves, and other rubbish) all along the floor without sucking it them up. It is only unless you lift the head and drag it towards you that it will suck up anything else. I find this extremely frustrating! I feel like I spend more time cleaning the head than cleaning the floors! But, this may not be an issue for the hard-floor head that you purchase separately (and when I can justify a $50 hard floor head I will update the review). 4) Whilst the groove on the barrel for the tube to sit into is a good idea for storage, the prong on the tube will scratch polished floors if you need to get under furniture to vacuum. This can of course be avoided by twisting the barrel a certain direction, but you will need to get on your hands and knees to get under the furniture without putting scratches in your lovely floor. 5) the click system for attaching heads drives me nuts. Instead of standing on the head and pulling the tube to release the head if you just want to use the tube to suck up in window sills or tight corner (like most vacuum cleaners) you actually have to bend down to undo the head from the tube. And then to get the head back on again, you need to align it with the guide or it won't go on. Rather than pushing the tube straight into the head in any orientation. 6) Contrary to what dyson advertises, the barrel/ vacuum cleaner can and does fall over. It has issues going over it's own cord unless being pulled straight over it. So if like me, you give it a yank to get it closer, it will want to topple over itself unless it was already facing the direction you pulled it in. And finally 7) the barrel is quite heavy, so if cleaning up around ceiling/cornice and you give a tug to get a little extra length, the barrel really hurts when it knocks the back of your heels!!! -This of course could be due more to my clumsiness rather that a fault of the vacuum though!!Not Convinced
DC39 Multi FloorI recently bought a DC39 and find that while it works well on a hard floor the suction on carpet and rugs is not so great. I understand that Dyson monitors this site so I would like to know if they have a suggestion....perhaps I can get a special attachment that would work better for carpets.

It is worse than my $48 vacumme
DC39 Multi FloorThe suction on this Dyson is pathetic, it will not even suck up to the edges like my $48 cheap cleaner does.
The company was good enough to send me another head then when that proved to not be much better they took it back ( I sent it back in the box that it came in).
A couple of weeks later they sent it back and without its box saying that there was nothing wrong with it. I rang and asked them for the box that it was sent in so as I could sell it as almost new one, as it was, to which the girls nastily told me that they did not have it.
The best vacuum I have ever owned!
DC39 Multi FloorI love this machine! I previously owned a Hover and was very disappointed with it but am glad I paid what I did to buy the Dyson, the suction is great and it maneuvers around the house/furniture/kids! with ease. I've had it for over a month now and do not regret my purchase

This is a rubbish machine.
DC39 Multi FloorI have had my dyson dc 39 Animal for the past year and 1/2 I can't say it is very good. I believe it is manufacture fault, where the vacuum round hose turns into an oval shape grey plastic tubing that goes into the drum. Everything gets stuck in the tube and jams the machine. You have to pull it all apart if you accidentally suck up something that is a little smaller then a beer bottle top. I had recently sent my dyson to be looked at, when I sent it (still under warrantly mind you) I explained what I thought was the problem. Which of cours

When I sent it I had it in the original packaging and the parts that did not fit back into the cardboard I wrapped in newspaper so it would not rub (being it is at least 2000km to the nearest place to fix). Unfortunately when it came back it was just shoved into a box with some packing bubbles on top and all of the plastic rubbed, when I complained they said they packed it so it wouldn't move. It was a nice to know that they looked after my $949 Dyson so well. As you can imagine I am not happy. When I rang the staff member got a supervisor to ring me back, basically all she said was sorry that they couldn't do anything for me. I only bought a dyson because everyone said they were the best what a joke. I can't believe I paid so much it was supposed to make my life easier not harder. I wish had the money to buy another machine. I have boys who often leave lego in funny places under furniture and what not. If I have to pick up everything bigger then a 10 cent piece what is the point of vacuuming. Machine is rubbish, bad service from warranty offices. So Disappointed.Hi Michelle,

It's a Vacuum Cleaner
DC39 Multi FloorLets face it. It is a vacuum cleaner, it won't make you funnier, more attractive to the opposite sex or fitter. It sucks dirt and dust of surfaces and it does it quite well. But, so do many other brands. It is not as easy to use as it appears on the adds, but either are other brands. As for being bagless, big deal. I inhale more dust trying to empty the stupid container than I ever did by putting a bag in a bin.

DC39 Multi FloorUp front it looks the goods. Initial operation, the handle and hose setup is heavier than most other vacuum cleaners, it feels awkward to hold (unconventional handle grip means you push forward from on top of the hose rather than with the hose). Tool "ends" are exchanged by a unique push to release and click on system. The crevice tool is for large crevices only (no good for between drives seat and console!). You can purchase a finer crevice tool end for $129! The large see through dust collector is only good for 3cm of fill, until you reach th
... Read moree max level, not an advertised fact! Now remember this unit cost close to $600, here's the pinch, it is not a horse. You cannot train it to go around corners (as suggested in the graphics/advertisements) if you pull it towards a wall corner it will track towards the corner and no you cannot yell "watch out for the corner" hoping it will magically track to the left or right and avoid the wall corner. Pull it towards a corner and don't stop prior, it will collide with the corner. When you back track out of a room (and you will) it will, strangely enough, run over the cord if you don't move the cord out of the way. Same rule applies here for the "corner collision warning radar (CCWR), there is no such thing!!!! It has small track wheels under the ball and a single small steering wheel under the hose connection. These will snag on the cord and cause forward motion to labour. Again don't be fooled, there is no 4WD or dif lock option, so if you don't go easy it will tip over. The suction is strong and can hold its own is this area. So, if you want a Dyson to say you own a Dyson, buy it. If you think this vacuum cleaner comes with a built in smart computer similar to iRobot then this is not for you. Vacuum cleaners at half the cost will do the same job, plus bang into wall corners, snag on the cord and tip over! DC39 Multi FloorPurchased the dyson DC39 3 months ago after seeing all the ads on TV & hearing all the hype about dyson's and really wish I had of stuck with my previous brand. DC39 Multi FloorI have just purchased the Dyson DC39 I love it but it doesn't really seem to be much better then my Dyson DC29 which I just sold to get the new one .I love the Dyson and have always been a big fan of this particular product . But for some reason the DC39 seems to be a lot harder to push over the carpeted areas . Where as my DC29 was easier, why is that happening Dyson ? Maybe I need to buy the power head but at $100 I don't see why I should have to spend more money after I have just dished out over $700 for it .
Easy to store way and maneuver, I love the Dyson but the DC39 is a bit of a let down on carpted floors

DC39 Multi FloorCant think why people are giving this vacuum cleaner big wows unless they are the agents of the manufacturers. For a start it has a very short electrical cord, so I have to use extension cord and it gets stuck on furniture - so that is very annoying. Also the head is very small, which means twice the work. The bowling ball thing is just a gimmick because it does tip over when using it, and I find the dirt canister hard to get off and empty. The extra brush tools are useless, and a waste of time. For such an inflated price, which costs so much more than other cleaners, I cannot see the value in it at all.
expensive, short cord, tips up, hard to empty, small head.

DC39 Multi FloorI have purchased and been disappointed by many vacuums over the years, mainly sticking to the tried and tested (Hoover, Phillips etc) and have been so disappointed by the quality of the plastic housing, and tubes breaking that I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Dyson Multi Floor, I vacuumed today with my old vac then reviewed other vacuums through this website, the Dyson shone out like a shining star! so off I toddled to buy one, was totally ignored in one store (The Good Guys) so went off to Harvey Norman, where I was greeted by a very fri

DC39 Multi FloorI absolutely love this vacuum! Purchased last week from Harvey Norman for $630 and have used it everyday (my partner has gone so far as to saying I'm addicted)! Our house js tiled throughout with carpet in only the bedrooms. Our carpet is from the 70's and felt hard prior to using the Dyson - after using it the carpets feel soft and clean! It's amazing. Tiles feel clean without having to mop! We have 2 inside/outside dogs who lose quite a bit of fur. The dyson gets it all which is amazing as we also have an 8 month old son who crawls and is int

As well as doing the floors I'm able to do the dusting and get dirt out of door/window jams and the blades on ceiling fans! The only thing I would improve is the length of the tubing length as when using the dusting tool it's not long enough to fully extend my arm (I'm only 5ft 3in) and reach the top of windows etc but other than that its perfect! Will never buy another vacuum brand again! Enjoyable to use, exceptional suction, picks up all dog fur, so easy to use and so versatile! Tubing length could be longer.Awesome Suction
DC39 Multi FloorAwesome suction, this is my first Dyson I will Never buy another brand vacuum cleaner. I bought this one as I had borrowed my sister in laws Dyson and when she needed it back I was missing it!! As soon as I could afford it I got my own. Got a great deal from Harvey Norman, they price matched a deal I found on the Internet, so happy! Recommend!
Multi floor head
DC39 Multi FloorI was expecting the Dyson to be easy to use but when I use it on carpet it is a lot harder to push around than my old vacuum. A turbo head on it would be heaps better. Are you able to separately purchase a different head for the Dyson?
The suction is great and so is the capacity of the dust bin.
Hard to push on carpet.
Dyson DC39 review
DC39 Multi FloorYou are buying a premium vacuum cleaner, the price indicates that, however the performance is sub standard. The unit fails to move sufficient air mass to do a good cleaning job. It is also the Dyson Ball model - the DC39. Yes it doesn't lose the amount of suction that is has for sure, but also leaving some of the dirt/debris on the floor ensures it fills up much more slowly that a decent vacuum should.
You can pass over a small particle on carpet sometimes several times before it will finally suck the particle up. I removed the carpet/floor

I purchased a Dyson DC 39 and absolutely regret my purchase. The biggest problem I have with it is the emptying of the container. I was told by the sales assistant that it is much easier to empty th

It can be emptied straight into the bin, however, i then need to get a dust wipe to wipe inside the container and around the inside of the lid to get rid of the dust that still remains . DC39 Multi FloorMy last vac a hoover, was not a cheap one but as I now have two children and cat in a carpet house I brought a Dyson dc 39, I used my old one first then the Dyson and was amazed at the amount of dust in the clear chamber afterward, the extra fittings on the handle started falling off the first time I used it though, when U pay 550 bucks for a vacuum U expect a tight fit.
carpet looks and feels better than ever.

No Real Complaints
DC39 Multi FloorThrough no fault of Miele my 3 year old vacuum died. Whilst I was very happy with the Miele I decided to try a bagless vacuum and one that is specifically pet hair orientated. The Dyson was dearer but Miele bags aren't cheap so figured the Dyson would pay for itself in a couple of years. The turbo brush picks up hair really well, though I will agree that longer strands do get tangled around the brush. But the hard floor head is very manoeuvrable and because it is quite narrow fits in places the bulky Miele head wouldn't. I think the Dyson

The only improvement I would like to see in the Dyson is to have somewhere to keep the larger heads, the smaller tools lock onto the handle which is handy. The miele had adjustable suction strength but the Dyson doesn't, having vacuumed my whole house (loose mats, carpet, hard floors) I haven't found it was necessary anyway. Narrow manoeuvrable heads, compact and light to drag around, Noisier than old vacuum, heads can't be stored on body of vacuum and with hard floors and mats I am regularly changing the head.Should've bought one years ago
DC39 Multi FloorOk, basically I had been using a basic but still functioning Centrex 1400W vac for about 10 years. It had a cloth bag and seemed to be doing the job.
When I recently moved into a unit that I've just purchased, my dust allergies really played up, I'd be coughing and sneezing in the night, asthma playing up, persistent chest infections and no matter how much I vacuumed, it didn't change.
So I took a guess and thought it might be time for a new vac... money was really tight and I could hardly afford even a basic el cheapo K-Mart vac but I th

The DC-39 seemed to be the best all around suitable one for me, not huge and bulky but not a toy either. Myer had it on special (and they had an unadvertised sale on as well when I went in so it was about $100 off!). Well let me tell you, what a difference this product has made! The first time I used, I was truly and utterly shocked just how much dust it had picked up. I'm not a messy or dirty person and the amount of dust was in the catcher! My carpets looked the same as when they'd been steam cleaned, the place seemed so much fresher and best of all, my allergies stopped!Awesome
DC39 Multi FloorBest cleaner i have ever owned. The suction is fantastic on carpet and hard floors.Very easy to empty and no bags. Filters can be cleaned easily. Any member of the family can use it even the kids as it not to heavy. Parts are readily available if needed. Makes vacuuming a pleasure.
The amount of suction
Simply the best
DC39 Multi FloorI got my dyson when They were first released in Australia. I thought it was the best Then and I still believe that it is the best now. My Dyson lasted me over four years without any problems and I am on the lookout for a new one now. Definitely a staunch supporter.
The strength of the suction
Messy to empty, so I rated it 3.5 star
DC39 Multi FloorBought from Harvey Norman at $710. Easy to maneuver easy to use, good suction as what we paid for, you can see and feel that the carpet is never been cleaned like that before, get to hard to reach area, good plastic quality, pick up hairs, the bin has to be emptied after only once use, very messy to empty.
Love the triggerhead head, great suction, easy to maneuver
Expensive, messy to empty which I thought it is a very very very very very stupid design
Now 6th nov 2020
I replaced the filter. The new genuine filter gets dirty very quickly. I have to clean it after every 3rf or 4th use.
Agree. This is my first bagless vacuum cleaner. Makes me really like the ease, cleanliness and no fuss emptying of the bag type cleaners.
We wouldn't expect the filter to need cleaning after 3 or 4 uses.
If this is happening please get in touch with our Dyson Experts via [email protected]. We are only happy to help.
The Best of The Best!
DC39 Multi FloorWe have had this machine over 6 months and it is by far the best cleaner we have ever purchased!
Cleans all types of surfaces quickly and easily with absolutely no fuss. Easily emptied and no bags to buy.
Great machine every way you care to look at it!
Well worth the money in every respect!
Cleans all surfaces, great suction, easy to operate.
Worth the investment
DC39 Multi FloorI've had it over 6 months now, it's a little noisy but does a great job picking up dust off the floors and carpet. Excellent suction. It's the best vacuum we've ever had, I wish we had bought one years ago. It is worth spending a little extra to buy one.
Great suction, Picks up a lot of dust
Noisy
