What size needle is best for the Elena 1000, my machine has suddenly started to break the top thread. I have changed needles as well as cotton but it is still breaking the top thread. It was sewing fine until I broke a needle, have had no problems previously when changing the needle.???

Why does the elna hd1000 not have a power switch on the machine

I'm asking the same question. Just unpacked my new machine and was very surprised/disappointed that it didn't have an on/off switch.

The Feed Dog is not moving the fabric along. I have removed the needle plate to check for lint, all good. Also can I order a new set of accessories as I have misplaced mine. Thanks in advance.

Elna
Elna ·

Hi Julie, with the feed dogs not feeding the fabric, check the stitch length dial is at 2.5 or 3. Also, check the feed dogs are raised and not dropped, if you run your hand from the needle plate over the back of the machine there is a lever which moves from side to side, move it and turn the balance wheel towards you, are the feed dogs moving up and down, if not push the lever back to the other side and turn the balance wheel towards you. If this has not fixed the issue, recommend you take it to an Elna retailer for them to check/repair. Also, the accessories can be purchased from an Elna retailer, here is a link https://www.elna.com.au/dealers/ Thank you - Elna Australia

Thankyou for your reply. I changed the stitch length from 2 to 3, however no change. The feed dogs are up. There is no lever at the back of the machine. The lever is to the right of the bobbin case, however as the instructions say 'to drop the feed dog, pull down the drop lever and move it to the right. To raise the feed dog pull down the drop lever and move it to the left. However the lever does not move to the right or to the left, you can only pull it down.

Hi Julie, Sounds like your machine needs some TLC. Please take it for repair to an Elna or Janome retailer. Link for elna https://www.elna.com.au/dealers/ or Janomehttps://janome.com.au/find-a-dealer/ Thank you.

Is there a light switch or does it just have to be unplugged?

Claire Q.

Yes there is a light switch but why would this effect the machine not moving along and stitching. It is sewing in one place

I cannot get my machine to move along. The feeder cogs don’t seem to engage and move. It just stitches in the one spot. New..only used once before.
Help please.

Look up how to move the feed dogs. Mine needed quite a bit of force to get it to free up. It’s now okay.

I was excited to buy this machine, now with all of the horrible reviews, I'm frightened to use it...

Susie B
Susie B ·

Please don't be concerned. It is a very basic machine so it is hard to compare it to more expensive models. I do have a problem when I sew thicker fabric but for hems and small.repairs, it has been ok. If it worries you, are you able to return the machine or exchange it for another model of machine?

Sandy P
Sandy P ·

It's just a machine. Why would you be scared to use it?

Mine's un-useable. Clutch slips mid-sewing all the time. Took it back to Spotlight for repair. Failed to address the actual fault. Got a patronising response about 'wrong needle' & 'keep machine clear of dust/oiled'. So its gathering dust. Totally waste of my money.

Aloe
Aloe ·

Don’t be terrified! Any mass produced machine has a percentage of failures and unfortunately with basic models people who have been disappointed are usually the ones passionate enough to review. Some people who reviewed obviously had a VERY faulty machine, but others - may not have put time into working out what they were doing wrong. I hope you have as good an experience as I have, but if you’re really put off then I think Susie B’s recommendation to see if you can exchange for another model you like the sound of is good :)

We have a brand new Elna 1000 machine, sewed 1 short piece of material fine, now won’t sew properly! The bottom stitch is not working, just looping & knotting up! We have followed the instructions, re threaded everything, have the same cotton on bobbin & top thread, bobbin is threaded correctly etc. but won’t sew properly????

Apart from turning the power off at the wall, is there a hidden light switch that turns the light off on this machine?

Susie B
Susie B ·

There is a power switch on the side of the sewing machine. When it is switched on, light comes on automatically. Hope that helps and I understood the question.

Deb M

I got a elna HD 1000 for my birthday, it's only 1 month old . I was sewing and it slowed down and started making a loud noise . I read manual and oiled and cleaned machine and it's still the same

Sandy P
Sandy P ·

I don't use mine anymore. It's horrific. Worst machine I've ever owned ... and I've owned/I own a few. Took it back to the Spotlight store I bought it from for repair. Felt very patronised. They said nothing's wrong with it, it just needed cleaning, oiling & the right needle. Clearly it has something wrong with it - it sounds like a slipping clutch. It's as bad as ever. Have cleaned and oiled mine to no avail. Have just decided not to shop at Spotlight anymore.

Suggest you film using it. Then take it back to the store you got it from for repair & play the footage for the repair person/ask that they send the footage to the repairer. Good luck.

I would take it back to Spotlight and ask for a full refund which I think you are entitled too under consumer law as it is not fit for purpose which I have seen Choice recommend at various times q

Sandy P
Sandy P ·

Pointless. Customer service was horrible. I avoid Spotlight too now. Life's to short for dodgy sewing machines. and staff who don't take on board what's being said ...about this lemon.

How do I remove or open the faceplate on the Elna1000?

Sandy P

Check your manual that came with your machine. If you do not have one, you can get it here. (If link doesn't work, copy & paste into your browser.):

Sandy P, I have been having the exact problem you had with mine. I took it back to Spotlight for repair and they told me there was nothing wrong with it. I might send an email off to their head office to see if I have any luck that way.

Sorry, I cannot answer this particular question. All I can say is: if you are considering buying Elna 1000, DON'T. It is rubbish - lots of constant problems.

I can measure it, but if I were you, I would NOT buy this machine. It is a complete piece of crap. The bobbin housing falls apart all the time, making it useless and I am not the only one complaining about it.

Just bought a new machine and the bobbing mechanism will not hold the bobbin

Katka

I have the same problem. The instructions are useless and nothing helps. Money totally wasted on this machine.
I have tried just about everything, my son did as well, there is no way the bobbin stays in, the entire mechanism falls out all the time.

Found out that the black stays have to actually fit over the studs....nothing like the manual, but at least its working now....
