No refund despite clear terms and conditions
I have been fighting for weeks to get a refund of my cancelled flights to Europe. Etihad cancelled the flight but refuse to oblige to their own terms and conditions and provide a refund.
I have reached the limit, they won't reply to me anymore and have not even once stated any legal reason why they won't refund. A company must oblige to their terms and conditions, this is a legal requirement.
I'm disappointed and appalled by this lack of customer service.
I, too, have registered my interest for a class action against Etihad. What they are doing isn't right.
I will keep fighting for my money. Etihad has not provided the service, they can't keep the money!!

Etihad no better than thieves!
We booked Etihad flights from Sydney to Athens (due to fly this Friday), but Etihad cancelled our flight.
Etihad won't give us refund. We have been told to take the credit or lose all our money - how fair is that? We can't travel next year, so unless something is done, we will lose all our money. This is at best unethical, and at worst, theft. Shame on your Etihad! You could have at the very least provided us with the option of paying a modest cancellation fee. We will be joining the Slater and Gordon class action.

Ethically void airline
In the same boat as many others.
Etihad decided to cancel flights and are only offering a credit to be used within a timeline in which international travel for leisure will be almost impossible.
Have received no correspondence from Etihad, only found out about credits are chasing them up through a third party agent.
I have joined the Slater & Gordon class action against travel providers who are refusing refunds and suggest others to do the same.

Will never fly Etihad again if their current position continues.

Disappointing experience in relation to cancelled flights
I booked through third party (Aunt Bettys) which I think should carry some of the blame too. I was unable to fly due to an medical accident which required emergency surgery. I provided medical certificated from the surgeon which outlines I an unfit to fly. Apparently my flights are non-refundable even though they canceled the flight based on Covid. f credit note OR refund. What's worse is that I have a credit that needs to be booked by September 2020. What a joke!!! Every other airline is allowing at least 12 months to re-book. (NOT 4 months) I don't even think borders will be open to fly internationally by September 2020 so using up $2000 of credit seems like a ploy that will be pocketed by the airline. Very disappointing experience from what I thought was decent airline. Will definitely consider other options over this airline going forward.2 comments

Booked 5 return flights from Sydney to Cairns with Etihad air miles ( had to buy 30,000 air miles to top up)
Flights cancelled by Virgin due to Covid 19, Etihad agreed by call centre to refund the airmiles. When the miles arrived in my account Etihad immediately expired them. Looking at these reviews Etihad are over in Australia, I will never use them again!
The call centre said they would be refunded, I have called twice, pointless! Nothing happens. [name removed] please don’t give me your cut and paste social media response!

from Etihad was refunds to be sent in 28 days from 14th April. It is now the 23 May 2020. Contacted Etihad again and I was told they are dismayed that I have not got my refunds and get back to me. The fault lies with the management especially the CEO and board members of Etihad. The CEO’s renumeration depends on how much money he saves for Etihad. It’s in his interest to save money so he can make money for himself - at the expense of us the customers. He has set the boundaries the others just follow and do as told - lies and more lies. traordinarily limited validity period and strict conditions. It is not feasible to rebook before 30 September 2020 given the current environment and government restrictions on travel. Nor is it reasonable to suggest that it will be possible for me (or most Australians) to travel overseas by 31 August 2021. Etihad's response demonstrates a complete disregard of the practicalities of international travel in the current environment. If Etihad wishes to have a presence in Australia, it should put in place policies and procedures that provide a reasonable level of service to Australians, as well appropriate levels of compensation when it fails to provide the services it undertook to provide.Similar opinion? So far, no party is willing to reduce their cancellation fees for a FLIGHT THAT ETIHAD CANCELLED and the only people taking a hit is US, the consumer. I find this unethical and unreasonable and we are only looking for a FAIR outcome for EVERYBODY. Currently, Etihad are not operating fairly, nor is our travel representative. Etihad won't refund the flights THEY cancelled unless I pay $550 cancellation fee
I booked flights directly with Etihad from Sydney to Barcelona return (Jun-Aug 2020). I called them up to get a refund since the airline cancelled the flights. I was told that the flights were refundable but there was a $550 cancelation fee which I obviously refused to pay (I'd be happy to pay for it if I had initiated such cancelation). Not giving a full refund for a service NOT provided goes against Australian Consumer Laws. I'll proceed to request a chargeback.

Booked $3500 worth of flights for my family to come and visit me in Europe. Etihad cancelled the flights and now refuses to refund the ticket because they say they are non-refundable and I can only have travel vouchers but it contradicts their terms of carriage. Will not refund flights they cancelled
Had return flights booked to Barcelona, cancelled by the Etihad and like many other customers on here they are refusing a refund. What good is a credit at this time when we don’t know if we’ll even be able to travel by June next year, let alone getting leave etc? I don’t understand how they can blatantly refuse to reimburse the consumer for a service paid for but not provided. Furthermore the inconsistency with EU and American customers being offered a refund is gauling.

Booked holiday in May to UK including cruise. fund which all the airlines are offering those days like Emirates, Qantas or even the “cheap” airlines as Vueling are offering full refund. But they stick to the same: “Our response is fair. Respectfully, this case is now closed”. This was going to be our first time travelling with Etihad but after that I’m 100% sure that we won’t travel with Etihad at any circumstance, the customer service is disgusting, probably the less compressive human beings during this tough times. There is a lack of empathy on their emails but also they lied to us couple of times on the phone calls saying that they will report our case to their managers which after hours we found out that they told us that just to get rid of us. After uncountable times trying to get the refund, we will proceed to pass it to our lawyers to make an official claim and take it to the court if necessary. This behaviour is unacceptable for an International Airline which names itself as “one of the top airlines”. It’s completely unethical and immoral from Etihad to treat their customers as they did with many of us, trying to take an advantage from the Pandemic Situation.1 comment

Etihad treating Australian passengers badly
Etihad will refund fares if the flight originates in the US or EU as these jurisdictions have tough laws on airlines providing refunds when flights are cancelled by the airline. Not so for Australia. This is discriminatory. Seems Etihad only refund when forced to do so by regulatory authorities not out of any concern for or goodwill on behalf of the customers.
