Worst gym ever

published

After sustaining an injury and getting a doctors note they refused to help with fees or even canceling my membership without the cancellation fee. While we were in disagreement they still snuck out money from my account, including late fees without contacting me which they usually did. They have taken more than the cancellation fee after I explained I’m out of work due to this injury and don’t have much money anymore. They are fake and heartless people who only care is money. Worst gym ever and recommend no one to join them.

not enough explanation about the fees

published

I joined the gym for $30 per week and I was told nothing about the joining fee I asked several times about when they will take the first instalment instaed out of a blue a whooping $270 was taken from my account without notice. I am very disappointed with lack of information I would have joined the gym fully aware not to be surprised like that.

Pushy Customer Service!

published

Be careful when looking for a gym to join ladies!
I was considering joining over a year ago but decided to go with another gym. Since then, I have received multiple text messages and phone calls from their customer service representaitves even after 'opting' out.

Flawed membership system, expensive, manipulative

published

I signed up for Fernwood, then changed my mind about it the day after. My brother said that at his gym, the cooling off period requires no fee, but Fernwood charged me a hefty $50 for cancelling WITHIN the cooling off period. When cancelling, the employee degraded other gyms to get me to stay by saying "men will be staring at you at other gyms". It's also unreasonably expensive. Every other gym around me that I visited charged <$15/week; Fernwood charges $22/week for the same facilities.

Been going to the one in Perth for just over a year now and I have no complaints. The service is always friendly and they offer a great range of fitness classes.

Bad service bad experience consistently

Stay away from Fernwood at Hornsby. Been a member for 12 months all smiles when I signed up then the reality sunk in unhappy staff classes equipment is unsafe and broken kept being over charged complained numerous times and I was always met with rude condescending staff . Owner finally called me after two months was not interested in my feedback very dismissive only rang to get me to resign as my membership had expired. Also very rude and uninterested. Money hungry. Be careful buyer beware. So glad to see the back of the place. Worst experience ever

Love the friendly female focused atmosphere

All about fitness

I joined Fernwood Hornsby at the beginning of the year. Yes they tried to get me to sign up to programs which cost more but they weren't overly pushy when I made it clear I wasn't interested at the time. Staff are friendly, amenities are clean. Everything is usually stocked well. Equipment that was out of order has been replaced by new machines. I'm very happy and just go in and do my thing so I haven't had any issues so far.

Carpet? On an aerobic workout floor?

published

Lovely clean bathrooms, staff wonderful, but then I tried a dance class on the carpeted aerobic room floor. It’s stinky, feet sink into the carpet instead of bouncing, and shoes stick like Velcro. I have no fallback aerobic class now. If I had realised this I actually would not have joined. Other than that which is my huge disappointment, it’s quite good. No kiddies, no pool, no poseurs, just ladies getting strong and fit.

Bad experience

Unethical, unprofessional, uninspiring

published

Horrible experience- they hide behind their contract when their own customer service team messes up. Having to go to VCAT to get money back. Process has dragged in for 4 months! DO NOT go here! Staff never available for working people, shoddy record keeping, change rooms are dirty, depressing and unprofessional place. Kept billing me for 2 months after cancellation responsibilities ended. Refuse to refund!

Simply great!

Hey y'all,

I don't know why you all choose to bag Fernwood out so much.... Listen to yourselves, aren't we adults?
Have an opinion, but choose how you express it carefully.

I think Fernwood has its pros and cons but overall, is a great gym. We go there to get fit, not for royalty service. And if anyone is frustrated about the price, there's plenty of other gyms.
The equipment is top notch, and amenities are awesome, and can I just say that the taps have cold water and for that I am eternally grateful!

Keep up the good work ladies, keep improving and keep up the positivity!

Continued to take payment from my bank even with a casual membership that I canceled for medical reasons, such bad customer service to deal with. Another money grabbing company

I have been looking into this myself as there is a special price for teen kids, think its is $20 a week and no join fee, but this may be for members teenagers. I think they said they have to be 13 but I found out today that they cant do the weights until aged 16. Also they cant go in on their own until they are 16.

Don't join Melton Club - horrible place - crazy contracts with outrageous cancellation fees. Poor staff communication and limited classes.

Why are people so daft?! Every gym has contracts, cancellation and late payment fees... I just dont understand why people come here and log one star reviews because there unhappy that they had to pay a cancellation or late payment fee. And all this negativity because of these people didnt have the funds in THEIR account- shame on them, not Fernwood!
Ive been going to Fernwood for years now, and find them to be a great gym, very accommodating too!

Daft? Sounds to me like you need to do your research as well as learn a little something about customer service or basic human interaction. They are people, not just a bank account. If Fernwood improved on their customer service skills such as advising upfront about their cancellation policies there would be no problem. If they showed a bit more empathy to the fact that these bank accounts are linked to people with actual human lives that matter. It isn't a cancellation payment they want you to pay out the contract. I went to Fernwood for years and I had to leave because I was moving 40mins out and was charged a ridiculous amount to end that years contract. I later had a baby moved closer to an Epping outlet and joined thinking now I have the knowledge of the contract deets from the former outlet I won't have a problem. They shut down!!!! As a customer, I was not at a $$$ amount loss but I was let down. As a customer, we don't charge for their circumstantial changes we know they are human and take our business elsewhere we don't ask to be compensated for the disruption to our lives as they ask for money into contracts that cannot be fulfilled due to our life circumstances/changes. It should work both ways because life happens!!
In my opinion, consumer affairs should take a look into their fees and charges as well as some other clubs as to the fairness of the contract and the amounts charged in conjunction with the circumstances. Otherwise, they will just have more cases to deal with.
My two sisters-in-law who l convinced to join for 24 months in order to make it more affordable for them copped it harder than I did. To anyone else on here that felt they were treated poorly contacting consumer affairs would be a great start.

Shame on you for putting the $$$$ amount in your head or insufficient funds as an excuse for a company that should know better and do better after that many cases.
