Good veh, but looks better on paper than real life
Good little car with a few short comings. Impossible to get close to the stated fuel economy, even when running premium fuel, Fords response to this was that all manufacturers lie about fuel economy (first vehicle I have failed to achieve the claimed fuel economy). My 2012 Fiesta from the get go, has veered towards oncoming traffic, Ford has identified the cause as a bent front strut, but will not fix the issue as it falls with in there manufacturing tolerances, driver side front strut is +0.9 degrees out, and the passenger side front strut is ...Read more
-0.98 degrees out due to being bent. What is even worse was being told that even if it was outside of Ford tolerance levels, it still will not be fixed under warranty, as it will be claimed the damage was from speed humps or pot holes. Even if replaced, I have no guarantee that the new strut will be any better. Other than the above two issues the car has run flawlessly, and the sound system was better than expected Price. Good visibility while driving. Nice design inside and out. No spare wheel. Really bad warranty. Fuel economy on combined driving is more like 7.1 not 6.3.Similar opinion? Brilliant!
The 1.6 diesel sedan handles and drives beautifully and I get 4.5L/100km! It easily leaves 2L Toyotas behind accelerating away in top gear up steep hills and is overall a wonderfully tractable engine.
Even parts are reasonable - I had a rat build it's nest in my air filter which was bad news for the turbo - however a replacement turbo was only $550 - about 20% of comparable replacements in other brands.
Driving in the country a tyre repair kit is useless so I also forked out a couple of hundred for a spare rim, tyre and jack.
Great fuel economy, performance, build quality
No spare wheel - had to buy one

Great value small car
I test drove most cars around the $15k price and found the fiesta to be the best on paper eg. power, safety, fuel economy and dynamics. and in the real world it was the best car i drove. micra was uncomfortable, notchy and slow, barina was just slow and outdated, barina spark very slow, alto was ok but too small, i can't fault it so far and my last car was a 2002 XR8 falcon. there maybe a few things i would like it to have but for $15k driveaway i can deal without them
Fuel economy, driving feel, handling,
Small backseat area, doesn't go like a 90kw engine in a 1060kg car should (a 107kw mazda 3 will eat it)

Great first car!
I bought a used (on 11,000kms) manual 2010 Fiesta LX about two months ago. It is my first car and I couldn't be happier with it. I test drove a Holden Barina (which drives horribly compared to the Fiesta) and a Mazda 2 as well. Affordable, has everything I need, easy to drive and good on fuel. I travel and minimum of 50kms a day and I usually use one tank of petrol every 8-10 days. I am 6 foot tall and fit comfortably inside, and have even sat in the back and it is pretty comfortable for a small car. The only thing that annoys me is the lack of...Read more
iPod connection, but it didn't think it was worth the extra couple of thousand to get that, and you have to purchase a spare tyre if you want one, which is $270. I would highly recommend this car! Fuel efficient, Bluetooth phone connection, good stereo system, comfortable, 5 star safety. No spare tyre, no iPod connection, a bit less grunt when the air conn is on.1 comment

Average car with issues.
Purchased the 2012 WT CL about 6 months ago and have had the following issues: brake fluid leaking inside the car (into the drivers foot well) and the front left tyre was replaced and has since made a noise when traveling at 100kmh (the dealer isn't concerned but won't do anything about it). The car is nice to drive with plenty of acceleration (manual), but it does not like going into reverse and it can sometimes take 2 or 3 goes. The drivers seat is very small and quite uncomfortable with no lumbar support. There is no room to put anything in ...Read more

Great little car for around town.
Good little car with a few short comings.
No centre armrest is a real pain when driving any more than a few K's
No centre console to place you items in so they cant be seen from outside.
Resting your arm on the window sill is also a pain as its tooo high.
I only get 8.5L/100km around town whats with that ????? i get the same from a Hyundai SantaFe diesel that weighs 2 tonnes.
The drivers side mirror doesnt adjust enough as i cant get it too move out enough away from the car. (this is the same on all cars not just mine)

The best the money could buy at the moment
Thailand (WT) build does not fall behind of German made one much at all. It seems to be more about the labour cost cut rather then build quality sacrifice.
Very nice small hatch indeed.
Sport car handling, precise and slick clutch-gearshift operation, engine is up to its task, light steering, spacious enough for 2 adults + 2 small kids, cheap/capped service, low fuel consumption.
No fuel cap and no lockable fuel lid for CL specs, no spare tyre (there is space provision though).

Thank you for letting us know that there is space provision for a spare tyre - one only has to purchase one. That was my main issue. Thanks!

May 2012 Ford Fiesta CL Hatch
The best car I have ever owned. I traded in my brand new 2010/2011 Hyundai Getz because I was sick of it's tacky clunky manual transmission (only had covered 7000km). I looked at the current Mazda 2, but it just didn't speak to me like the little Ford did (felt light and almost Hyundai). The second Ford I've owned and have loved both of them. The Ford Dealer was very friendly and helpful.
The effortless transmission, a joy to drive, very hard to stall (Getz stalled at nearly every roundabout until I got used to it).
No spare tyre, that's one thing the Getzy had.

Don't waste your money!
I bought a Ford Fiesta 2011 brand new from a Ford dealer in SE Queensland. Before the car had 1,000kms I had to take it back to the dealer due to warning lights coming on, failure to accelerate and the brakes not working (Yes, not working). The dealer I bought the car from refused to help, but I did find another dealer and complained to Ford. After the 5,000km first service, there was a major oil leak in the engine, which meant I was without my car for 3 days while they sorted out the problem. A brand new car should not have these kinds of troubles.
I'm not sure if it's just the actual car that I have, but I definitely will NOT buy a Ford again.
Cheap on fuel
Engine problems, oil leaks, transmission problems, electronics problems.

Ford hits a bullseye
The Fiesta is really a great little car, it pretty much ticks all the boxes for me. The car is really quiet when cruising, had test driven a few other cars and was surprised that the Fiesta was the quietest of the lot, even quieter than a VW Polo.
Engine is really smooth and has lots of torque, fuel consumption is very good as well.
The car handles like its on rails, but handles most bumps very well, though you do notice the firm ride on the worst of our Aussie roads.
All in all very happy with the purchase.
Good features for the price (Zetec) very quiet and very economical.
Don't like the idea of having no spare tyre, and the back seat doesn't fold flat.

A cracking little machine - i love it
This is an awesome little car. Got the first of the WT's and was skeptical about the Thai build quality but it is excellent. I have had a WRX, and this awesome little machine handles twisty corners in much the same way. As long as you keep the revs up through the corner, exit speeds are amazing and there is virtually no body roll through the corner. The low profile tyres can get a bit noisy on rough surfaces and the suspension can be a bit hard for potholes, but that the trade off for such impressive handling. There is also no spare tyre at all...Read more
, but a strange little air compressor with a tub of glue (so we paid a bit extra and got a full size spare as there is the hole for it in the boot). The rear cargo area is huge with the seats down (we easily fit a new dryer in the back) and the front seats are very comfortable, even on long drives. The stereo in the base model is outrageously good and has steering wheel controls for volume and CD track skipping. There is an AUX IN line so you can plug in your MP3 player easily. Heaps of little storage compartments and the keys are the great little flick knife type, so you don't poke holes in your pockets with the key. We run it on premium unleaded which makes the fuel economy even better, even when driving it hard. I would definitely buy this car again. Drives great, awesome stereo, amazing handling No spare wheelSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Car
Purchased an Auto WT LX Fiesta Jan 2011.
What a magic little car!
It has great handling, looks good and cheap to run.
The boot button stopped working yet was quickly replaced under warranty. Build quality is excellent and the doors shut with a solid thud.
Transmission takes a bit to get used to, especially at low speeds. Apparently it has something to do with the powershift gearbox. Its a bit jerky and holds its gears too long. Perfect for acceleration though.

Great little town car with eye-catching Euro design
This is a great little town car that will get you from A to B quickly and efficiently in reasonable comfort and style. The base model (CL) even has bluetooth (hands free phone), voice recognition, digital displays such as trip meter, real-time fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, average speed and distance to empty.
The manual is easy to drive and handles well
Not much, CL model only 4 star ANCAP rating (Zetec has 5 stars)

What a gem
I mainly use this car as my city car and it's just great. Fun to drive around corners, quiet and comfortable while returning what I call excellent fuel economy for Sydney traffic, average 6.8l/100. I've had 12902klms of hassle free motoring so far.
I can recommend this car for your small car purchase choice.
Great on fuel, quiet, standard Bluetooth, great around corners, comfortable, good radio, car looks good.
In stop start traffic the gearbox can be grumpy.

An Absolute Gem
The Fiesta is an absolute gem, always fun to drive plenty of room for the driver and front passenger, rear not so squeezy, but better suited for the anckle bighters. Very quite economical and good looking.
Only had the Fiesta since January so time will tell but so far money well spent.
Roomy for size, excellent fuel economy, quite
Gearbox could be smoother but still excellent

Cool design and comfortable car
I used to drive the old model and now switched to the new one. The new design makes the car look smart and modern, definitely a plus.
It's really comfortable to drive but I am just a little bit disappointed I didn't get the sporty version, the only negative point. Can't wait to have long road trip someday :)
Smart and modern design

Excellent
This car is even better than all the expert reviews say. It is amazing to drive. It just wants to stay on the road and go. 5th gear has extremely impressive pulling power up some big hills (like Mooney Mooney). The Zetec extras are worth paying for. They are fantastic. The voice activation is excellent. The centre panel information (like song and artist for the song on the radio) is a bonus. Even though the cargo area is very good, it's a shame they didn't carpet the back of the back seat. it's painted and will scratch over time. The seats don'...Read more
t lay down completely flat either, which is a shame. Even our old Starlet had that feature. The low front can be a problem when parking in parking areas with the concrete block wheel stops in them. Most are too high and you will scrape, so you have to be careful. The 2010 Zetec is worth every penny. And don't believe the "Mazda 2 is the same car" story. Just drive them both. There is no comparison. Road handling, voice activated radio and bluetooth, zippy engine, great gearbox, quiet, stylish, leg room, etc etc etc Very low front, back seats don't lay flat, back of back seat not carpeted.Similar opinion? Jerky powershift what a mistake!
Just bought Ford Fiesta Zetec regret it already. Powershift transmission very rough especially under 40kms. Constantly jerking at 10kms, 20kms, 30 kms makes driving in peak hour traffic on motorway unbearable. Rang dealer to book 3000kms service and they said "we have had lots of complaints" "It's a manual engine with an electronic program from Ford and there is nothing we can do". I read lots of reviews before buying this car. I considered handing, safety, size, fuel efficiency but I assumed that after all these years Ford would be able to mak...Read more
e an engine that worked. Have driven new Mazda and Toyota's in last 5 years and they are much better. Wish I had ignored the reviews. Now I am stuck with a new car that is very uncomfortable to drive. With the rough gear change in the lower range you cannot avoid it. Don't be duped by the hype. Unfortunately I would not recommend this car to anyone. Connectivity is great and in upper gears handle road well. Powershift engine works badly and jerks constantly changing gears like a bad manual driver.1 comment

car. I have read many post on this issue and have found that you can get ford to upload that lastest software that fixes these issues. Ok quick review changes are smooth and fuel economy is around 7 liters per 100kms city cycle and I dont drive like a granny, the car still has under 2000kms so the clutchs are not fully run in until 10,000 and the engine is still a bit tight so I expect things to only get better.Similar opinion? Hi, I am looking at a 2010 auto LX that has done 160k as a first car for my son. Looks in great condition, but I am seeing from the above reviews that the auto models seem to have problems. Do I now discount this from the list? Thanks.
6 answers
160k is getting up there, I'd be search for something around 100k and not ford if it doesnt have a conventional automatic transmission.
Thank you. I have been looking for weeks now looking at holden barina, astra, ford focus, fiesta.... Agghhhhhh
I'd be including japanese cars in that list like yaris, swift, jazz, mazda 2 and so on.

I am buying an econetic on saturday. It is 2011 model, with 200+ km on the clock. ls there anything i need to be aware of, other than maybe the diesel particulate filter problems?
2 answers
If the kilometres were done on the highway the 200+ is probably OK. Manual gearbox would be better than 6 speed dual clutch auto. Diesels like long runs, not a city commuter environment. Be wary if it's a private sale re future problems although I think Dealer warranty does not apply to 100+ 2nd hand vehicles.
Thanks Stevo. It is a manual transmission, and the km were mostly done on highway. I have searched and searched, but can't seem to find any info about things going wrong with these cars, other than the DPF and the dry transmission they had in the auto's. Hopefully it's as reliable as all the reviews seem to think...
