Well Built
I have just sold my 2017 LZ auto hatchback. In my 2 and a half years of ownership I found it to be well built with few discernible rattles or squeaks, the structure was very rigid. The rear view camera is large & clear. The controls are simple to use and it had a good heater and cool air conditioning. Over 18,000 km I averaged 8.8 L/100 km, with 90% of the km's being city/metro driving. It's initial acceleration was not overly brisk but once at 40 km/h and above its mid range performance was strong. At 110 km/h its revs were 2,000 rpm. The ride was a bit firm around town, dropping the tyre pressures from the recommended value helped improve the ride. Overall I was happy with the car and had no problems.
Purchased in November 2021 for A$22,500.00.

A Great Car
The LZ Focus is fantastic, so I hope potential buyers don't label the LZ with the LW's problems (the LW before the LZ had a major problem with the transmission but I believe that's been fixed now, if you're thinking of buying an LW). The LZ has a great 6-speed auto with an S mode to drive it like a manual with overdrive, and an ecoboost 1.5L engine with as much power as we need on standard unleaded petrol. Great fuel economy: 7.6L/100km stop-start around the suburbs with 2 adults and often 3 grandchildren (child locks help with younger kids). 6...Read more
.0L/100km on a trip with 2 adults loaded up from Melbourne to Coffs Harbour and back via the coast road at the speed limits. The sedan boot holds 2 large suitcases if you need them, plus lots more stuff. (The salesperson thought we were paying with cash when we tested the boot size with the two large suitcases!) Cruise control is a dream, and the interior is so quiet. Steering and braking are fabulous. Tech is excellent -- phone integration is perfect, and the stereo is great. It's very easy to park: the rear sensors and camera are great. The large display with maps, music tracks and am/fm radio is really good. Our Red Candy colour is easy to see (safe) and looks spectacular. All the interior controls are within easy reach. We added the convenience pack, 6 year warranty and Protektiv Complete Vinyl Kit. We have it serviced at Etheridge Ford, Ringwood, VIC, because it's not expensive and they know what they're doing and include RACV; they also have terrific service staff!! All in all, a great investment worth test driving first and last.Purchased in April 2021 at Etheridge Ringwood for A$27,000.00.

So impressed - better than I imagined.
Very happy with my Focus sport, great handling especially on winding roads - sticks to the road, so easy to handle and so responsive. Great acceleration -I beat everyone off the lights even the most powerful cars.
Comfortable drivers seat. Plenty of oomph to overtake on highways.Everyone who has driven my car is impressed - a delight to drive.
Purchased in January 2021 at Ford Dealers for A$25,300.00.

Rubbish from new
I owner this care from new it handles and drives well howeever for me it has been an unreliable car. Right from new I had non stop issues with the Engine warning light coming on. The dealer looked at this issue every time and it this sensor or that sensor as the excuse. Then they always charged me a code reading access fee, what a service rort. Its like charging customers for tool rental its such a gouge. There was never an explanation to why this light kept coming on. They replaced "wiring" but it never fixed the fault.. tion that this car had design issues when i got a repair bill of 1200 dollars plus labor for the replacement of the ECM(electronic control module) unit that failed for no reason. Just drove to the shops stopped and started a couple of times and then the engine warning light came on again. What made matters worst is that the Ford dealer ripped me off, the module over the counter was something like 540 dollars and they charged me 1200 dollars for ordering the part plus labor to install the unit. You would think the dealer and service center would supply the part at the over the counter price. This module rarely fails and consider how lightly the car was used I think i just got ripped off. I got a lemon of car since this engine warning light coming on for no reason has been a constant issue. I will never buy another Ford again and in particular the Focus model considering all these issues that we have had in our family with owning 3 of various focus models. Even though this was the manual version of the car I also had the issue with the manual clutch plate cracking that was replaced under warranty. These cars were really design lemons.Purchased in January 2021 for A$32,000.00.

Very good overall vehicle with only reasonable economy
I sadly had the Trend auto model before and after 3 years traded it back in on the 2016 LZ sport. The one exceptional thing about the Trend was fantastic fuel economy and repeatedly went from Perth to Toodyay return ( 200k's ) for 11 litres of fuel. The LZ uses 17 litres for the same trip. Not particularly good. Average for outer Perth use is between 8-9 litres per 100. I was told by Ford service it's normal and no adjustment can me made. There is also an occasional smell of petrol coming from under the bonnet but again Ford service can find nothing wrong. Those things apart it's a decent car with enough power for a 72 year old like myself and in just over 2 years and 14000 km's nothing has gone wrong with it.
Purchased in January 2021.

I was amazed with the total package
Well when my wife suggested I buy her a new economical car to run out to her work approximately 80klm each way, I started doing a little homework and thought I’d probably buy one of the most popular brands like my favourite 4x4 because you like feeling like king of the road however after accessing it I just found it hard to go past the Ford Focus and with 5 year warranty unlimited kilometres I thought how could you go wrong, the power of the 1.5L turbo engine has also shocked me, I can now see how they became car of the year and with the 5 star...Read more

Ford have really got this focus right
After experiencing the earlier Ford Focus trend auto 2.0 litre model LW 2013 that was plagued with transmission problems, I was reluctant to accept what was an extremely generous offer from Ford, to accept a new model LZ. After some research and being aware that the LZ has a new 1.5L turbo engine coupled with a new 6 speed torque converter gearbox together with an extensive test drive, I decided to accept Fords offer but to upgrade to the S model with the Tech pack. This little car is a gem. Great handling, responsive performance and to date, a...Read more
fter 20000 klms, with the exception of a faulty electric boot opening switch, that was promptly replaced under warranty, it has performed above expectations. I believe the LW model has destroyed sales of this little beauty which is a tragedy as there are few if any comparative vehicles on the market that would be superior to this.Similar opinion? Fuel consumption typically between 6.0 to 7.5 litres / 100 km.

Appearance is very beautiful, I love it.

2017 LZ Focus Trend
I purchased my LZ focus about a month ago so far very impressed with the driving quality the focus offers and all the gadgets that come with the newly updated sync 3 system with bulit in navigation as standard I bought it as a demo with 1,500kms on the clock and I drove it over to Melbourne from adelaide within 2 days of owning it and it offered an amazing average usage of 5.2L per 100km of petrol and the trip was $160 round trip with detours I was very impressed with the fuel economy.

automatic transmission is way better then that troublesome dual clutch system they were running which now has been scrapped. The torque converter system works the way you'd like any automatic transmission to run with smooth gear changes. If you like a powerful, economical and great looking car with plenty to offer I'd recommend the LZ focus which comes with fords 5 year unlimited km warranty for that peace of mind very pleased with my purchase and looking to the years to come.Similar opinion? A better drivers car!
Ford have finally packaged a Focus with world class driving dynamics, engine, transmission, suspension tuning plus the high levels of safety tech have ensured the LZ series delivers at almost every level. The early ownership experience has so far been above expectations, the area I would mark down this Focus on would be the fuel consumption around town, hopefully this will be offset by the claimed highway consumption. The Sync3 connectivity appears to be one of best around, once I master it. In summary, as I have been driving for over 50 years ...Read more
I must say I am glad they don't make cars like they did in the 1960's, FoMoCo should learn a lesson from this model, get it right the first time, the LW product issues almost stopped me from buying this car, until I drove the LZ.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ford Focus RS... just awesome
After enjoying four great years with the Subaru BRZ, it was time to look for a car with a bit more space, perhaps more performance, didn’t compromise on handling... and, of course, manual. Sad to let the BRZ go but the Ford Focus RS is simply awesome.
What a great car! The Focus RS strikes the balance of fun and practicality. The term hot hatch doesn’t so it justice. This is an athlete which growls and pops as you go (note the engine can be a bit “hungry”)... and you can fit two baby seats and a pram behind those Recaros!
First Ford an...Read more
d the solid feel was a nice surprise. Smooth and quality gear shift is such a pleasure you don’t notice that it might be slightly long for a sports car. Some people have complained about the ride. It is true that it is firm and too “jiggly”. However, it is a sport car and no worse than a BRZ or 86. It would be nice if the Recaro seats had a height adjustment and the rear view camera had a higher resolution but these are minor comments. A couple of issues picked up following delivery but Ford Service fixed them and provided a complimentary car whilst in the shop. I also like the fact the Focus RS is such great value and delivers performance comparable to a AMG A43 or BMW M2.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Worst car out there
Worst vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I’ve had 3 ford cars.
Now I’m gonna sell it at another dealership and buy a completely new car. I’m glad they got fined 10 million dollars. They should have been fined more!
Worst customer service error given.
First was the 2014 Ford Fiesta which had a serious transmission problem. I had to discuss this to my parents for months to years and a bit before they listed to me about the problem. I went to ford multiple times. All the times they said it was fine nothing wrong with it. After more complaints th...Read more
ey did a software update, which fixed it for 1-2 weeks than they did clutch replacement which solved it for 6-8 weeks before the problem came back. Than back to a software update where they left it there cause they couldn’t do anything anymore. I was stuck with it until 2015 late where they only offered a upgrade of $10,000. I got into a 2015 Ford Focus in December 2015 but didn’t get it until January 2016. I ended up paying $12,500 on the upgrade. They ripped me off $2,500. Than I drove the car for nearly 10,000km where I noticed the problem starting and didn’t want to go through with it again with Ford. But I had too. I sold it though ford and they gave me $20,500 back but told me I had to buy another one of there’s. I than got the 2016 Ford Focus model cause they said it didn’t have the dual clutch problem but a 6 speed auto and rated 5 stars. I had to pay $22,951.00. The car was fine for the first 15,000km but than I noticed something not quite right with it. I continued driving until 25,000km where I noticed the jerking started. At 30,000km I made my first complaint to the dealer and they did the service and the software update. After the update the problem became more frequent and now at 37,000km i now have to get it looked at again and checked to see how serious the jerking is and if it needs the clutch replaced. I’ve just done it today and now have to wait another 2 weeks while the car adepts up to your driving style.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Relaxing Driving Experience
The 2016 Ford Focus got back into my list because its not using the Power Shift anymore. I also like this car for the following reasons. Others may differ.
After test driving a few cars, this is the one that I can really sit back and feel relax while driving. This is how I like to drive the car, though occasionally I am able to have some fun driving it differently. The 132-kilowatter Focus LZ sport is quite zippy for me. I find this car most suitable for suburb driving and the sports mode and the early turbo kick-in is useful for overtakin...Read more
g and to beat the red lights. Its a small car with enough power. I don't have long legs and the driver's seat can be adjusted so my right foot is never dangling or straining but lightly resting on the accelerator, feel comfortable with my buttock and under-thigh pressing evenly on the seat. I can't drive a car without back support and this one has manual adjustment. Radio reception is very good. The Sony player reads the cover picture of the CD or mp4 file and title of the song. It also plays my FLAC music through a thumb-drive, mobile phone and digital player. Sound quality after minor adjustment is fairly good. I like to be able to use any grade of petrol, and the once-a-year servicing at 15000kms helps, but running cost is subjective. Road noise is minimum with the fitted Michelin tyre. On smoother road it is very quiet because with windows up, the interior is almost free of outside noise driving around the suburb or even on a 70k highway. Visibility from inside is still good for a short person. Dashboard is large and deep, but all controls and knobs can be reached easily while driving. Lots of adjustment with the aircon and can be real cold.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perform good if think of the price
Perform stable and smooth with high speed especially on highway. Engine is quiet.
But the interiors are quite rough, some plastic part come out just after two month purchasing. Air con not very good as running slow.
Think about the safety, it’s quite reliable hatch car with around 20k price.

Love my car!
Love the look and feel of this car. wanted something that blended in with everyone but had just enough character to stand out. also love that it doesn't have too many gadgets but just enough to be modern. It's very responsive to the pedal, not the cheapest to run but compared to my 13 year old car it does the same fuel usage.

2 years old and still happy !
A spritely performer with well weighted controls and great steering feel. Quiet and comfortable cruising on the highway and still responsive enough to offer this old petrolhead some fun in the twisties.
No warranty issues at all after 28000km and fuel consumption typically between 6.0 to 7.5 litres / 100 km.
Sync 2 infotainment / nav superior to many much more expensive cars.
No complaints from me and no intention of trading up any time soon ... well done Ford.

Great big brother car without powershift.
My Jan 2016 ford focus is a great little car, drives smoothly no issues so far great price at time, is the one without the trouble power shift. Good size small family car, good size boot compared to the little brother Fiesta.
Great inclusions with the trend, nav, reversing camera, but missed out on Apple car play by 6 months. But honeslty
not needed if you have nav included with blue tooth, as apple car play uses your data.
Please do passed bad reviews of powershift models scare you from non.

Second family car
We bought the ford focus sport about a month ago as a second car for my wife to use for work - overall its a great little car
Great to drive handles well although a little sluggish if you dont use the gears - yes we bought a manual - coming from the UK where manual cars are the norm rather than the exception as here in Oz.
Interior and exterior are very good and the interior design and trim is excellent quality
As a little run around - its definitely work a look

Questions & Answers
Andrew K.asked
I have just purchased a2018 Focus sport with only 3200kms on the clock 2 days ago. Today i took it for about 1 hours drive today and every time I applied the brakes from about 70kms per hour i could hear a noise coming from either the tyres and or the brakes .Its a hard noise to explain, i suppose it sounds like the brakes are grating with no vibration felt .The noise can even be heard over the sound system. Can someone enlighten me of the problem if possible.
2 answers
Hi Sorry have not ever had this problem. I run my tyres on 32, don't know if that makes a difference. But it begs the question how did you get a 2018 model with only 3200kms? I run my car mostly on 70/80/100 km speed limit roads and have never experienced this in 2 yrs.
Hi Andrew. I understand your situation, as I Once bought a second hand lemon Tarago ( usually reliable) for our growing family. Anyway, my Focus sedan (not a sport hatch like yours) hasn’t displayed your problem over the city or country (up to 110km/h) roads. If you’ve taken it off sealed roads you might have grit in your brakes, but this should disappear. Perhaps extreme braking at high speeds could bind this grit to the discs or pads? If the 3,200 km was extreme driving, the discs and/or brake pads could be worn already. Did you thoroughly check the history of this car before purchase? Could it have been rebuilt from wrecks at a chop shop? Has it had a front end crash, either front on or side on? Have suspension and brake components been built up using incorrect parts? Get your car checked by your RAC in your state (the usual pre-purchase test) if you didn’t do it pre-purchase, as it’s worth the money. Find a reliable front end specialist - it costs nothing for an inspection. A good Ford dealer like my local Etheridge Ford in Ringwood has mechanics that are experts (don’t be shy of a dealer, they know their cars) and could answer the above questions. I think this is actually the place to start, and could save you heaps of money. I hope you get this solved. I’m interested to hear the result.

Is there any issue with the Lz 2015 manual gearbox? Has there been any recalls over this gearbox?

Sorry Glenn, I don't know, my Focus is an auto, it's great, quick and responsive.
I have a 2017 focus sport auto LZ
It's a standard torque converter gearbox. No issues what so ever. Previous models with the PowerShift transmission were a problem.
45000klms on the clock. No squeaks or rattles. It's just the same as I drove it off the lot.
