HI
I have a Mondeo 2009 MB titanium petrol,

Just wondering if the mondeo has a timing chain that needs to get changed. I've heard conflicting reports and one mechanic just told me my timing chain needs replacing? The car has done 130,000 ks and runs beautifully, sounds a bit like a diesel but has always sounded this way in 7 years of owning it.

I’m no mechanic so I cannot answer your question. I suggest you take it to Ford if you have conflicting comments and do what they say, good luck, cheers

Has your mechanic checked for excessive back lash ? That’s the amount of place associated with the crankshaft and camshaft. When chain and guides are worn there’s generally a clacky sound at say 1800rpm .
I personally wouldn’t be relapacing a chain at those low kms. Time doesn’t effect a chains health.

Hi i am having problems with 2009 Mondeo Titinium diesel 2.0ltr. (surprise surprise) 205,000 km
When i am accelerating the car shudders slightly (as if it has a flat spot, seems only when the car is changing gears) and when you accelerate harder the shudder is more intense.when this happens i loose my ACC and also the air con, the engine light comes on and sometimes the traction control and ABS light and i also loose my speedo apart from my tacho which still works, sometimes the transmission will not change gears even if i put it in sports mode, where i normally have to stop and switch the engine off which is also a problem, i have to press the start button several times before it switches off. Any ideas?

Possible transmission problems, take it to a good mechanic you might know or Ford.

It's not as if we haven't tried. Ford had it for 6 weeks and $1700 later, they said they'd fixed it - yeh right, didn't even get it to the highway before it started playing up again. Then they reckon a new ABS should fix it at $1200, but no guarantee. They were just clutching at straws. (Apparently all they did when questioned was clear the codes - we could have done that) We've got it booked in with an independent mechanic to give the transmission a service/checkover but in this model there is no filter to change. Will see what happens.

I would reckon to have a look at your timing belt.

Hey guys so is that true that the Ford Mondeo Titanium tdci series mb diesel gear boxes are that much?

Ford powershift is basically a manual system, smoothens out into a near-auto. It’s not the smoothest but I don’t think it’s clunky or anything since i only spend 30$ on petrol everyweek or less.
It also gives Ford a super boost when you press the pedal, which is safe for lane changing and overtaking.

Overall 9/10

We have a mondeo titanium tdi, once it has wzrmed up and you have to stop for awhile, the transmission will clunk going into drive severely, it appears that the dual clutch from my understanding wont stop spinning to engage the drive, have been told itz the solenoids wont cut the oil supply and it keeps spinning till it drops in with a bang. Is there a fix for it, has someone come up with a solution to this problem ford don't want to know about.?

Ford does don’t make the transmission. The company that made the transmission went bankrupt and to replace the ecu you are looking at $3k and $9-12k for the transmission. Ford do not troubleshoot transmission issues, they send it off site to a specialist. The transmission is not serviceable apart from oil. Most of the techs at Ford don’t have the faintest clue about the transmission.

It doesn't seem like the solenoid from the way you described I would recommend to take the car to a transmission specialist workshop.
If does end up being the solenoid - you're better off going to a reasonable auto electrician workshop than the ford australia service centre

Replace the tcm imfront of your gearbox.. new tech need to include input sensor. Problem gone

2.3L petrol vs Diesel - I'd like the extra torque of the diesel engine but have never owned a diesel. I know diesel is usually more fuel efficient, but costs more per litre at the pump. I've also heard that diesel costs more to service?
Has anyone made the petrol to diesel switch? Realistically the 2.3L petrol engine would be sufficient for our needs 99% of the year, as we rarely load the car up for long family road trips and don't tow trailers very often.

I have a 2.3L petrol. It is perfectly adequate for our family needs. This includes loading it to the hilt for easter camping trips, withkid, dog, huge tent, chairs, table, cooker, lamps, sleeping bags, water, food, etc etc etc. maybe an extra 200-250kg of gear all up!
I have also owned a diesel vehicle (BMW). Diesels do not require such regular servicing as pertrol engines, helping to offset the cost. Personally I would like a diesel or later model Eco boost for a bit of extra torque.

Diesel is best suited for long drives. Vehicles with Euro V specs need good long runs periodically to clear the DPF. If the runs are short, stick to petrol.

Between the diesel and petrol MC Mondeo - there is very little difference in service costs, the savings in fuel though add up to a fair bit. My Mondeo has averaged just over 6L/100Km over the 95000 kms I have driven it in 3 years. Go for the diesel it is well worth it, once you go diesel, there's no going back. ;)
