Great ute, poor service from Ford
I've owned a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT manual since new. At 25,000 it developed a noisy rear wheel bearing. It now has 90,000 on it and I still have the same noisy bearing. The response from Ford was nothing short of a joke. Multiple trips later, weeks without a car while Ford technicians "test drove" my car over a period of 18 months I just gave up and put up with the noise. The same goes for the ute liner that is lifting, after Ford gluing it down no less than 4 times rather than replacing it as I asked for, I gave up on it too.
The ute is an a...Read more
wesome ute, which is why I gave it the 3 stars, I pull boats, trailers, caravans without a worry, plus trips to Birdsville, the Cape and Fraser and never a complaint from her other than a couple of flats and a blown hose. I'd recommend a PK to anyone that wants the comfort of a family sedan with the carrying capacity of a ute, but make sure you have a reliable mechanic and don't rely on Ford for anything. Great for a daily driver that you can play with on the weekend.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Engine failure = tail light warranty
Leased a 2011 PK Ranger cab chassis for work, never had any issues with it until it developed a loud knock at 80,000km, suspected to be a big end or crank bearing. Always serviced on schedule and by the book. The dealership took so long to even consider inspecting it, then informed me there would be a $1500 charge for stripdown & inspection. I could see where this was heading so authorized my preferred mechanic to source & fit a low km used motor. Ford could not have been more underwhelming in their response or concern. My 3 star rating is beca...Read more
use the vehicle - until the engine failed - was brilliant. Torquey, responsive, great ergonomics, excellent vision all round with fewer blind spots than most utes. Perfectly weighted steering, tight & short gearshift, ideally spaced ratios.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Timing belt gone before 120000 replacement due
I have a 2010 Ford Ranger Hi-Rider. I have serviced it every 5000klms since buying it with 33000klms on it.
Took car to Ford and I wanted them to fix it as their books say to change timing belt at 120000klms and mine has gone at just 116000, through no fault of my own, the belt failing in these vehicles causes extensive damage (new engine) Ford say that because I got an independent mechanic to look at it first that they would not warrant it, they were very unhelpful and very rude. Does anybody else have the same problem?
Nowhere near as good on diesel as stated. Very expensive to repair. Poor service from Ford

Very Happy
Bought my 2010 XLT in October 2012 with 13,000 on the clock. Has now done 70,000km. It's used every day in city, freeway and highway conditions. I tow a boat and camper trailer semi regularly, occasionally go 4WDing and towed the 1100kg camper on an, at times tortuous, 8000 km outback trip recently.
The thing is great on the road, has never missed a beat and is comfortable reliable and fairly economical. I intend keeping it for a long time and to that end it never misses a service and I change the oil every 5000km.
It has been a great veh...Read more
icle and was great value for money as used car. Couldn't be happier. Comfortable, excellent performance, reliable. Somewhat and typically harsh leaf sprung ute rear suspension. Upgraded to old man emu springs and shocks and that made an enormous difference.2 comments
Bummer. Should sell it. Sounds like it's ruining your life eh ?

2010 XLT Ranger
Issue with auto gears taking longer than normal to engage at 34,000km and issue with 4x4 not functioning AND 4x4 lights on dash coming on randomly AND brakes shudder when on dirt/mud track... And I expect more as she has only done 35,000km... Will not buy another Ford not only due to the vehicle issue but the customer service when purchased...

You could always go buy an Amorok..... Oh wait hang on, they spend more time in the workshop than any of the 4x4 utes.
Was still under warranty when 4x4 non engagement issue occured, but because I live 900km from the nearest ford dealer or authorised repairer and can't get there any time soon it is said by ford Austra... Read more
lia they won't do anything to assist...I asked if they would just send me a new 4x4 selector motor (as suggested faulty part after doing google searches with same symptoms) and I would fit it myself and shoudl there still be an issue I was happy to follow on at my expense to rectify... but NO ford couldn't even do that...I wonder how many of you other ford ranger owners have taken yours out for a good roll in the mud and waterways??? My problem arose after about 3 times in damp areas...it is suggested this will stuff the 4x4 selector motor and therefore end up owning an expensive 2x4 if not repaired...I was under the impression that I had 5 year 200,000km warranty as was on offer by other dealers at the time of purchase and was discussed as was on road costs and both agreed on with price, however these seemed to have been overlooked on the contract which I had missed for some reason and not included...Similar opinion? 2008 4x2 Hi-Rider and 2010 Wildtrak
Have owned both a 4x2 Hi-Rider and a Wildtrak. Brilliant utes, very happy with both of them. Towed with both of them interstate with a xb falcon on the back. Very good on hill when loaded up. Good to drive around town, steering nice and light, great seating position. Very happy with them both.
Great towing power, seating position, looks of Wildtrak.
Stereo not great.

Changed my speakers today took about an hour for all 4. 2x 6inch JL's at the front and 2x 4inch Alpine's in the back, sounds a lot better! Good thing speakers are not that expensive these days.

Good work vehicle
My company vehicle is a 2010 PK Ranger 4x4 super cab chassis. It's travelled 76,000km and it's only had headlight globes and tyres replaced. It has a 3.0L 4 cylinder turbo diesel motor which gives an average return of 9.2L/100km in economy. Most driving is stop/start work. It has the safety pack which includes ABS and extra airbags. I work in a national park area so 4x4 is essential. Gear ratios are higher than previous model. Ride is good but the rear end was very bouncy with original alloy tray, till I put the new heavy gauge steel tray on. S...Read more
eats are comfortable and there's plenty of storage space. Unfortunately I won't be getting another one this year as my employer has a 4 cylinder policy and the new Rangers are 5 cylinder. A great sadness to part with the long line of Couriers and Rangers I've had as all have been fantastically reliable and totally up to the wide variety of road conditions I've driven on. Reliable, inexpensive, ride comfort, storage space.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

PK cab chassis 4x4 in the Snowy Mountains
After 60,000 fairly hard off road kilometres my PK is still going strong. The front suspension has sagged and is showing (audible) signs of wear. Front axle seal replaced under warranty. Has never failed to start but I would not call it a good starter when cold.
The engine has the power to pull the stumps from under your house but the auto does not want to send the power and torque to the wheels under heavy load (and I mean a full load/ max GVM). It does not slip but just dies. Sometimes going up hill I feel it is going to stop.
Great engine. Strong rear suspension.
Automatic gearbox cannot put torque to the ground under heavy loads going up hill. Front suspension is ordinary.

GPX, I've never had trouble with mine starting in the cold (other than the diesel freezing - which there's not a lot you can do about that). But during winter put 5W-30 in it. It will crank better in ... Read more

The more I drive it the less I like it
I loved my PK dual-cab 4WD when I got it but the longer I drive it the less I like it. Brake lights stay on, window rattles, rear view mirror vibrates unless you hold it. After its 30k service I haven't been able to reach 80kph towing my horsefloat up inclines - where I used to do the same hills at 95kph. Under load L4 takes several goes to engage. Rough auto changes.....and the Ford dealer can't seem to fix any of this. Also persevered for 14 months with ABS that would violently kick back under medium braking and the dealer said it was normal ...Read more
until one service I complained so much and they actually found a fault and finally fixed it. Great to drive around town and highway and super comfy driver seat compared to other similar utes. Driver seat v comfy for long distance. All dash instruments easy to see/operate when driving. Good driver visibility. Torquey around town. Great in the wet. Brake lights stick on. Windows rattle when half way down. Since 30k service gutless to tow with on hills. Have trouble engaging L4 under load.2 comments
Ford says L4 should only be engaged while stationary and in neutral. If your trying to engage under load your heading for trouble.

OK
The model I had for 12 months was the XLT 4x4 Crew cab, it did everything right and was great off road, especially in sand, and had enough clearance on rough rocky terrain. As a workhorse it carried a great load and could tow a massive amount 3tonne. I did not like the 20,000km service when I faced a bill for $1,000 for a value realignment which took two Ford mechanics all day to d they claim, having searched other websites other people have also complained about this. In saying all of this the Ford is well priced, not made in Australia as many...Read more
would think it is, there are better equipped utes out there – maybe give the Ranger a miss unless you love the blue oval. Well priced, 4x4 model is a real 4x4 wiht low range, good equipment. 20,000km service was close to $1,000!!! No misprint One Thousand bucks, value re-aligenment.Similar opinion? Terrible
Before you take it out of the showroom have a spare clutch and transfer case on hand as well as shares in a car hire company because you will need them, my XLT is 11 months old (34,000kms) and transfer case has been replaced twice (warranty repair) and clutch once ($2000 repair). So far it has spent 6 weeks off the road in repairs due to lack of parts in Australia. A very common problem I have since discovered throughout the entire range.
Feels like you're driving a sedan not a truck, lots of room front and back
Not very robust, better suited to mums picking the kids up from school

Excellent
I have done over 130,000kms in a BT50 and Ford Ranger twin cabs 4wd's.
The Mazda has done 100,000km's of very hard road towing of boats and caravans.
Current boat weights 3.8ton and I have towed it from Brisbane to Tasmania. I have towed the boat all over Tasmania fishing with no gear box, transmission, motor problems at all, not even a flat tyre. The Motor is the best of all current twin cabs. The clutch is showing signs of wear. Top 4WD.
Very strong engine tows well rides nice.
Front windows rattle when quarter down, I have had a 2007 Mazda sdx bt50 and Mazda fixed the windows. Currently own 2010 Ranger and the local Ford dealer don't know how to fix the windows.

Hi All, My ford starting was great and then started losing power when I go up hill and when I accelerate it will just cut power. It di it twice in 85kmns and then 8 hours later on my way back it did it everytime I accelerate to above 2000rpm. I changed the oil filter and it was very dirty but now after putting it back I can only start the car then it idles fine and when I press the pedal to rev it just bogs down an die or goes up from 1.500 rpm to about 2000/2500 and then come down again or if I keep holding the pedal down it dies or stalls the engin.
I hope this makes sence please help?.

ears old and not rusting ) sagging back suspension already and it carries hardly any weight . 4low has trouble disengaging . Radiator fluid is always low and requires constant topping up ( never touched the cruiser other than services ) this car sucks, if I actually think about it I'm sure I can come up with more problems like the little things eg gear stick keeps coming loose . It's ok as a car but it's not a 4x4 in any way . Not impressed at all .
