Well it is broken again!
We purchased the HX1 when it arrived on the market. Worked well for the first couple of years and then the trouble started. Unit would get too hot and stop, this was when mounted in cradle on dash with windows up and air conditioning on. It has been returned 3 times and has stopped working again. Just will not charge. Hema have been great re repairs but enough is enough. Garmin purchased today.
Purchased for $800.
PRO’S & CON’S Product operational deficiency’s not initially apparent!
PRO’S
1 Excellent correlation of Hema paper charts with Hema HX1 data base greatly aids planning and big picture view.
2 Excellent, reliable GPS
CON’S
1 Inability to delete tracks or routes on the go. Can only be deleted when you are synced to your account. This makes using it remotely in the field annoying if trying to delete un-required noise. A major oversight.
2 Inability to adjust font size makes reading names on the go difficult and especially for anyone without perfect eyesight.
Overall this is a very useful tool supported by excellent reliable mapping but there is massive scope for improvement of the operator interface. It’s very disappointing in that regard.
Purchased in January 2018.

Camera fail
I had the camera fail after about twenty months. I open a ticket in the tech support section on the website and received timely replies to my queries, when we were unable to resolve the issue the technician requested that I return the device. The camera was replaced, new charger supplied and software update under warranty.
I suspect that the HX1 is like most if not all software and electronic devices (i.e. mobile phones) where new models are put on the market too soon without detail testing to beat the opposition into the market place, then identify any issues bugs etc. And fix under warranty.
However, they fixed mine in a timely manner without charge and I was impressed with the service.
Seems OK
Bought the HX 1 after I couldn’t upgrade and get the UK map off my old Garmin
It took a bit to get used to with all the different screens but if you play with an iPad you shouldn’t have to much trouble
We have just returned from touring SA VIc and Tassie with no issues with the Hema until we got back to WA and pointed it towards home on the shortest route and it did try to take us on a scenic 300km further route
The Hema updated through the wifi on my phone when I told it to with no dramas
It does lose satilitte contact now again but regained them pretty quickly
Overall quite happy with it

Seems ok
I recently upgraded to a HX-1 having used the Explorer app on my Samsung tablet for the last 4 years. While the unit worked well (seems from reading the past reviews HEMA have fixed up some of their issues) I was a little disappointed when in several instances it froze up (which is a pain in the butt when you're deep in the middle of nowhere) and other times when it warns you that the device is too hot (even though the outside temperature was only 27 degrees). To overcome this I had to use a tea towel and the HEMA pouch to stop the sun hitting ...
Read morethe device. HEMA should look into making the units white instead of black, or perhaps selling a reflective plastic white cover to prevent the unit from getting too hot. In saying that the maps were very accurate and the unit overall is pretty good.- 2 reviews

Definitely not happy Jan.
I agree with all the bad regarding the drive mode. A trip from Toogoolawah to Nanango the machine warned me of six different speed cameras. We were in the bush. There were no cameras. We were on occasion being closely watched by a couple of kangawallabies. I'm sorry if capitals are considered shouting but HEMAs response is as already mentioned 'not our issue you will need to speak with IGO.' Q: Are the maps accurate and reliable? A: No definitely not. Q: Can you easily update the device. A: there has been no updates for drive mode in six months...
Read more. Q: was it easy to install in your vehicle. A: Yes. Well for the price 1 out of 3 isn't good it's terrible. We paid lots for what we thought would be a good investment for our travels in our van but support is basically non existent. august 6th 2017 Update: Update on previous review. After four conversations HEMA told me that you can update the maps via the website NAVIEXTRAS. I have downloaded the toolbox program and when we get back home in 3 weeks I will download the latest update. I have been assured the issues with incorrect warnings has been addressed. If I had been given this info to begin with my gripe would not have been as bad. Unfortunately we are still waiting on IGO to get their act together in order to be able to install Camps 9. I'm not holding my breath but if it happens I'll give another update.
Update needed
Purchased the HX1 Mayember 2016 and in my opinion is not ready for full release, nor has there been any firmware updates to resolve these glitches:
- GPS time does not work when travelling between different time zones, my Toyota navigation, and all other GPS brands update them self with no issues.
- VERY sensitive to over temperature when left mounted on windscreen (No other GPS's I own are that sensitive). Placing the unit in front of an air conditioning duct for about a minute will make it work again.
- Not enough storage to down lo...
Read moread area specific topo maps without having to delete currently saved areas. Why cant we access the SD card storage to do this? The device storage memory is pathetic, the SD card seems to be only usable for photos, I have a smart phone with much larger memory and MUCH better resolution for this, I purchased a mapping device NOT a camera. - Unit decided not to switch on for no reason during a trip fron Sydney to WA, returned it to my place of purchase and they did a hard reset. Apparently you need to hold the power key for 15 seconds to do this. Luckily I had my other brand of GPS (which I intended on fully replacing with this Hema in the glove box) to actually get me home.Related Articles

Beware: Hema HX-1 Explore Mode OK but Drive Mode very low utility
UPDATED AND UPGRADED REVIEW
I have left my first review below to document the problems I had with the HX-1. All of my comments about documentation and the poor Drive facility stand. However, after a lot of mucking around the freezing problems with my HX-1 in Explore mode eventually resolved themselves. I have found that, even though I am on broadband, it takes a LONG time for explore maps to download. If you try to do anything else with the unit while a map is downloading it locks up. When I say a long time I mean the best part of a who...
Read morele day. However, once downloaded, the Explore mode does work very well and pretty well as it is intended. The standard Hema map that does loaded at purchase is quite good for most uses. I have downloaded a section of the NSW too at the maximum zoom which I find very helpful round my local area. Overall ....upgraded from 1 star to 3 stars. If they can fix the issues with the speed limits in Drive mode, which I believe is a major flaw in the HX-1, it would get 5 stars. FIRST REVIEWQuestions & Answers
Hi..I haven't used my Hema HX1 for about 2 years and now it won't fire up even when connected to power...Would the battery be cactus or does it need to be plugged in and charged before it will work...
Cheers...Peter
Connect your Hema to power and wiggle the lead where it plugs into the unit, looking to see if the red LED comes on. If it does, try turning the unit on. Hopefully it will come alive. Best to let it fully charge before you use it. Any of these things, even my Go Pro, I've found, need to be charged if not in constant use. Good luck.
when I connect Hema HX-1 to USB the navigation button disappears. How to make it visible?
