My battery died in my Colorado 7 and they put a new one in and the radio didn’t work but the fuses were still ok

2 answers

If your radio stopped working they should be fixing it. Even though i can't fault my new trailblazer and it is the first new car i have had in a long time that i actually like i do not like car manufacturers because i have had problems with most of them not honoring warranties.

Dave
Dave

First put in a new fuse even if the old one looks OK, Second see if the radio requires a security code to reactivate if the battery has been disconnected, Third if an attempt has been made to jump start the vehicle or an error made when attempting to install the new battery there is a chance the radio may be damaged.

my colorado 7 2016 had it for six months sounds like a truck. And seems to change down gears when at a lower speed, gear box is not smooth, dealer said nothing wrong taking it to other mechanic for second opinion. Any ideas?

Being a diesel they do sound a bit truck like at idle but if it is exceptionally noisy check the exhaust, have had no issues with operation of the transmission in my 2013 model but do believe that the 2014 model had a transmission upgrade that was supposed to fix a tendency the Colorado “7” had to hunt for gears at lower speeds.

The fuses in vehicles are usually underneath the dashboard somewhere around the glovebox, but, most vehicle manufacturers are different however, it could be a more serious fault so it might be better left to the holden australia workshop or perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help.
I also found ultratune experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults.

why does the gps systym not show speed limits on any roads, this must be the most basic feature on any gps system?

The holden australia servicing centre workshop or perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help though, I would recommend to use a portable global positioning device instead or even better - stop being lazy and just use a street directory.

when you buy a modern car, you expect it to be as good as all of its major competitors .this is not, the most basic feature of a gps,as fitted to a motor vevicle is speed limits on roadways, and has been ever since they were on the market some 10 years ago.i have had to install a garmin gps in my new car because the unit is only good for finding an address.when travelling with a caravan it is helpful to know in advance, when in unfamiliar territory, when to switch lanes in time.

Exactly what work - is your vehicle overheating or is the air conditioning problems. If the holden australia servicing centre workshop doesn't help then perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help.

brian
brian

If the engine won't turn on - like most motorised vehicles I would recommend - first replace the battery then if the holden dealer won't help then possibly a independent reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop or if the problem ends up being with the electrics then perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help.
I also found ultratune experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults but, only if the holden service centre workshop employees can't find the fault

Hook your smart phone to system, find bring go app. Trial period $4.99 from memory. Gps will work when phone is connected. Terrible, Terrible system, I believe it is the worst fault with. Car. Sorry.

Risteard
Risteard

I agree with previous comment 100 per cent. For a vehicle in this class, the infotainment system is a disgrace. The SatNav\GPS provided is called Bringo. You have to search for the app on your phone's play store, install it and run it on the phone. Make sure that you have Bluetooth enabled on your phone and it is searchable for other devices. If you go to the vehicle's 'Smartphone Link' option in the infotainment system and select it, it should search for and find your phone (mine came up as 'my car' on my phone). When the connection is made, go to the Apps in your infotainment system in the vehicle and you will see the Bringo app. Start it and it will sync with the app on your phone. You can also achieve a phone to vehicle connection with a cable from your phone to the vehicle's USB port in the central storage column.

Be warned. Bringo is not free - there is a free trial period for one month, thereafter you have to pay $89 for a licence. Bringo is very basic and it takes for ever to load. I refuse to pay for this product. I queried Bringo at my local Holden dealership and the answer was just a shrug of the shoulders and a suggestion to buy a third party unit such as TomTom. WHAT - completely unacceptable! I got the feeling they were embarrassed. That is why I think it is a disgrace.

I would suggest forgetting about Bringo. According to the vehicle manual, you should be able to connect your phone using the USB cable and you will be able to use the phone's apps in the infotainment system. So Google Maps would be a much better solution. Except, when I tried to do this I got an "unsupported device" response on the infotainment system. I again queried this at my local Holden dealership and got the same shrug of the shoulders. I even asked it the infotainment system software needed to be upgraded and the answer was no. (My vehicle was purchased in December 2016.)

I then rang Holden customer support and they were equally embarrassed. They had no alternative to Bringo. I asked about the inability of the infotainment system to support my phone and the answer was that the infotainment system software needed to be upgraded as the current software was incompatible with the latest version of my phones software. (Why was this not done when I bought the vehicle). They also said that I had to install an app called 'Android Auto' (or Apple Carplay) on my phone for this to work. I have booked my vehicle in with the local Holden dealership for this to be done, so I hope it works, otherwise the infotainment system is nothing more than a car radio.

I would recommend to use a portable GPS device or even better - stop being lazy and just use a old school street directory - you should be able to buy one from a newsagent or any decent petrol station

I have a 2013 Colorado 7 and lately the air conditioner has not been working properly. It can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes to kick in then work the rest of the day or do it again a few hours later. I had it looked at and they told me there is nothing wrong with it. Has anyone else had problems like this?

Wow who looked at it? Is the clutch on the air compressor sticking? If it were leaking refrigerant I suppose that would be detected easily. We haven't had any problems with our small fleet of RG.II Colorado 7s' air conditioning. The RG.I had even more issues though it seems.

Michelle

Thanks Allen. I will pose that question about the air compressor when I speak to them. Fingers crossed that's it !!
Could this still be the case even though it blows hot air while I am waiting for it to kick in. The fan still works, it just doesn't cool

Hi I have never had an issue with the Colorado 7 I rate this highly. Bought brand new it flew with a 3 year mechanical warranty. My one tows 2.5 t effortlessly. Holden have been good for me I had one light fuel emission light come on took it in they reset it and it was 1hr and free. Mines a 2013 and love it. I love my series 70 v8 4,5 of now as I am a typical boy but can also relit heavily with no worries on the good old Colorado 7 great for kids too. Only criticism is the usability of the back seats quite small and I'm the shortest out of my mates being 6'2. All the best with your choice take your time.

Contact Holden Service. The Colorado has a "Bulb checking" function which tests the globes/bulbs on all your lights & if there is a fault you will get a message on the dash telling you a light is not working. Holden recognise that this is a problem when LED globes are on trailers/caravans. I took my vehicle to Smiths Holden in Geelong,Victoria & the problem was a simple fix under warranty.

Allen F

Thank you I did that I took it to Shacks Holden but there was no bulb blown but the computer fitted with the Holden tow bar was set for ordinary bulbs not LEDs so just plugged into their scanner and set it for bulbs and LEDs .

I still get advertisement from holden saying how well built their cars are and how good their custmer care is. What a joke.
Also why should I or anyone else have to take a loss. We work for our money. Would you say the same if you had a lemon like us. Would you like to buy my car. Apparently they are very well built and very reliable. .

Hi Gary, No,I don't wish to buy your car I have three 4x4's and trying to sell my Navara at the moment. I would tell everybody the truth whether the vehicle is good or bad....tell it like it is. I had a bad experience with two Holden dealers & informed Holden Customer Care just how annoyed I was. I took my Holden to Smith's in Geelong because the other Holden dealer had a couple of service advisors who really should not have contact with the public. In a previous post on this forum I mentioned my Colorado was using coolant. Holden dealer could not find why. Took vehicle to Smith's Holden & they cannot find fault either, having said that I am suspicious that the previous dealership may have possibly could have or someone has put something in the coolant to solve the problem!!! I am monitoring the situation and will report on this forum if the problem continues. Robert

gary

Hi robert.. there is an additive for coolant that can seal a leak...I have used it myself on an old falcon I had.. it had a head gasket leak. It is added into coolant system and generally lasts between 12 and 24 months. If you go to supercheap or repco etc you can get info on it.

My dealer has been outstanding which makes me more frustrated if anything. HOLDEN customer care are the ones that are useless. The dealer cant do enough

Hi Gary don't believe dealers, I hate them, my private mechanic is the only person that touches my cars new or old I do not take my cars to manufacturers or dealers because they shove their hands in your hip pocket and leave them there. My mechanic is low cost and has never let me down he knows his business. I do not service my cars with the manufacturers dealers new or old not even under warranty i only go to them if i have a warranty problem and even then you still get grief. I live in Geelong and have had a Ford Ranger and a Mazda BT50. Even though both vehicles were ok I had problems with both these manufacturers and i would not darken their doorsteps again. Sorry I expect value and service for my money, I could go on for ever maybe I'm a winger, anyway good luck.

Have a six month old Colarado 7 and had Holden dealer do the wiring of 12 pin plug for towing Jayco Sterling, that we were picking up last week. He also did work so that the reversing sensors don't go off each time the caravan is hooked up. Only had this done 2 weeks ago, but trouble is the LED clearance lights and tail lights on caravan flicker the minute you turn the ignition switch on.
He does not seem to know what the problem is and when we rang Holden Head Office to get technical advice - they said that the dealers have technicians. Feel like we are going around in circles. Vehicle is booked in again next Monday. Has anyone else had this problem and if so - have they found a solution?

Shirley
Shirley

Thank you very much David T and Tony Z. Have been doing some more research and have been told that maybe a LED adaptor fitted to the 12 pin plug on the vehicle may solve problem. Apparently it goes between the 12 pin vehicle plug and the 12 pin plug on the caravan. Spoke to a nice guy at Jayco Cleveland and he says it is a common problem, and he spoke of the Led adaptor, which he says is a Holden part, and that our dealer here should know about it, so fingers crossed that our Holden dealer here in Ulladulla, will be able to solve the problem on Monday when it goes in. Will keep you posted and will be interested to hear how you go Tony Z when you hook up.

There is a current review on the Internet stating that the new Holden Colorada 7 is the perfect vehicle to tow your caravan. Would this statement be associating the fact that you have a convenient place to sleep every time your piece of crap Holden breaks down and at least you and your family will have somewhere to sleep while Holden comes up with another bullshit excuse for your breakdown ???

Gary, why make a pointless rant? If your Holden is so bad, then take a loss and trade it in on a vehicle you will be happy with.
As for a Colorado 7, ( not Colarada), I just had mine given a full Pedders check after returning from crossing the Simpson Desert, and the report said, 'Bullbar rattles over bumps'.
55,000 km and not a single mechanical problem.
My wife drove it up Big Red and loves it, and so do I.
Hope you are happier with your next vehicle; we got a good one.

gary
gary

It wasn't a pointless rant. I am glad you got a "good one ". Unfortunately for a lot of us we didn't. I have received numerous emails from other owners and people who were thinking of buying a holden. Owners have agreed with me that Holden don't care once you hand over the cash. Prospective owners thanked me for letting them know of my problems thus ensuring they don't buy any Holden.
There are cruze owners who haven't had problems and good luck to them too. The purpose of this website and others like it is to let people know of the pros and cons of a product. You're obviously a pro and that is great but I and lots of others have seen what holden is really like. I seriously hope you don't experience what we have had from
holden. I will continue to let people know and if that means commenting on every model holden produce I will do that. Holden arent just doing this to cruze owners its across the range. If you do have problems in the future remember this website.

hey gary looking at the colorado 7 it does look to me like bang for buck, concerned about your problems, can you tell me specifically what problems you had with your colorado 7? also note you do a ranve about the holden cruze, dont want to know about that, not interested if you get my drift colorado 7 is the machine i wish to know information on.
