Cheap n best on travel
I used to pay $51 every week for my multi 2 weekly and ride a train then catch a bus to my work.. Now I spend max $10 weekly on fuel in my brand new cb125e. I'm from Asia and I've been riding 100cc-250cc bikes for more than ten years and bikes like these 100cc-150cc last for ages... I've done 1500k's and I love it... In sydney areas speed limit in around 40-60/70km/hr in most areas and it runs very easy to 70/80km/hr.. The only disadvantage is, it is really uncomfortable to ride above 65km in a windy weather...

Good first bike - you'll outgrow it in a couple of weeks - you buy this to pass your P's .
I bought the cb125e with a mere 600km's on it (hasn't even had it's first scheduled service as yet).
Pros - very easy to ride, good seating position, great visibility, good fuel economy, and being so light, inspires confidence in heavy stop/start traffic.
Cons - This is a $2k bike - it is not a highway cruiser, and I wouldn't dream of taking it on a highway - you'd be lucky to get 100Km/h...downhill...with a tail wind. For me, riding a mere 6km's to and from work it's fine, but if you plan on doing highway km's, go straight for a 250cc a...Read more
t a minimum. Issues - lately, I've been finding gears get stuck when I come to a stand still from a rolling stop, and I'm trying to change down from, say 4th gear. The gear panel indicator doesn't display anything, and I've found I have to half let the clutch out, then back in, before I kick down on the gear lever, at which point it starts to go down the gears. Who knows, this may just be something which requires adjustment at the next service. Verdict - This is a bike to learn on, and pass your P's (they have a fleet of these at the RTA sponsored Motor Cycle Rider training days). So long as your expectations are no higher, you'll have no issues. Remember, I only paid $2000 for a 2012 model bike, with 600km's and 9 months rego - that's pretty cheap motoring in anyone's language. inexpensive, good leaner to build confidence For the price, not much really.

Yep, very true, I was ( and still am ) a novice rider, so I realized that's what I should have been doing once I experienced the same behaviour on other bikes.....

Great Bike, poor dealer support.
I've put about 1300k's on my bike now and i'm pretty happy with it. Great looking bike for what it is. Its a little low on power but gets up to 60km/h fairly quick and sits nicely on 80, but struggles a bit more up to 80/90. Hills limit it to about 70. 100 is just reachable but isn't really required on your l's or p's anyway. Its extremely light and easy to handle. I am now looking at a bigger bike but still very happy with my decision to learn on this bike, and will be passing it onto family to learn on as well.
Build quality is fairly decent...Read more
. My biggest problem with the bike so far is the awful service i am getting from Fraser motorcycles in Newcastle, which unfortunately is the only Honda dealer for quite a distance. They scratched the fuel tank when it was brand new and wouldn't take responsibility for it, and it was delivered without the speedo working despite the fact they signed to say it had been checked. And at the 1000k service they charged me $230 to improperly adjust the rear brake light switch and put the wrong oil in. I'd rather void the warranty and service it myself than let their mechanics near it again. Complete waste of money. If anything did fail within the 1st year (unlikely), the money saved from not getting an overpriced service would easily pay for the spare parts needed. The owners manual contains all the info needed to do a proper service anyway, easy job for mechanically minded people. The vinyl on the seat was starting to tear in a couple of places at less than 1000k's, which apparently is not covered under warranty. Frasers said they would look into this for me but as expected they haven't gotten back to me. Perfect starter for someone new to riding and not often going over 70km/h. Cheap to buy and run, easy and fun to ride The honda dealer

Horrible service, poor quality
I noticed rust on the fuel tank within the first few weeks, I took it to the dealer, they wouldn't do anything about it. Honda Servicing is mandatory for your warranty to be valid (which doesn't cover anything), but the services cost $200 and from what I can tell they don't do anything (I had to re-do the valve clearances the following day because it was damaging the engine). The gearbox often gets stuck in gear, I once had to take off from the lights in 3rd gear in heavy traffic.
Of course the most obvious problem is the speed, you think it won't be that bad but it is.
Good on fuel
Poor quality bike, fuel tank rust within first month, overheats on even slightly warm days, gearbox doesn't operate smoothly and so incredibly slow

as on that optional crash bar that looks like stainless steal..? odd. it NEVER overheates because ive driven from Melbourne past Bendigo and to top of Victoria, thats 350km non stop on 82km the whole way, if it overheats it wont go for a while i don't think an air cooled bike can overheat except on a 40 degree day reving hard going slow. You don't have to get it serviced at dealer to keep warranty that is a scam and hog wash, there is statuatory warranty the min by government usually 1 year an a extra one called limited if they want to increase it to 3 or so years by the company honda. You can service it yourself they have to prove your at fault it was caused by neglect not the other way around. Warranty is a waste of time and money anyway so is insurance NO ONE ever honous it its just a scam for bike companies and dealers to make extra cash, they say everything is a serviceable part and even if the engine blows up and they do nothing it will cost you at least $2000 to take them to the magistrates court in legal fees that's why insurance and warranty is a waste (that's what the bike cost). save yourself 200 and do it yourself. Man i think the bike is great and perfect quality much better then that cf moto 150 for same price, put Michelim pilot Sporty 18 90/90 tyres on it and it corners great, and i can still keep up and pass small cars easy you must be used to big powerful machines.it does 80km fine and that's more then enough in Melbourne where most roads are 60km anyway....where on the tank did it rust the only spot to watch for for me was under the clutch handle ruber where moisture would build up. what dealer did you go to i hope it wasn't Peter Stevens..I have to agree with Nick57. The cb125e has been great for me. I commute 80km a day for work on this bike and I even take it on the freeways and tollways. The bike gets to 90kmh no prob on the highway... Read more
s but struggles to make 100kmh. It can make 100kmh if the day is warm and the engine is nice and warm but the bike shakes a lot. However, maintaining 90kmh on the freeway the bike is fine. I"ve done over 5000 km on this bike. Sure the gears can get stuck, but that is a common problem for most bikes. I also own a CBR250r (but crashed it hence riding cb125e on freeway to get to work). Motorbikes have different gears to cars. Bikes require the movement for the gears to mesh properly. If you come to a stop in a gear above first you will struggle to change the gears to 1st in neutral. All riders with any experience knows this. The solution: rock the bike backwards and/or forwards while at the lights, release the clutch halfway (if all the way, you will stall naturally) then hold the clutch back in and click down to first. This technique works for all bikes with this issue. About overheating. I've never overheated riding 100kmh and under. I've overheated once but that was my fault. Above 100kmh is redline. I was doing 109kmh trying to hit 110 but couldn't and kept maintaining the speed for about 15 minutes on freeway. The bike suddenly lost all power and response, as if I hit the killswitch button by accident which I didn't. I pulled over in the emergency lane, waited a few minutes, started the bike again and it was fine and has been fine ever since. So don't go into redline duh.getting stuck in 3rd gear at the lights? change down and give a little rev to match the engine on the way down. CB125E - Perfect Commuter
I recently passed the half century mark and decided it's time to get my bike licence to commute to and from work. So after gaining my L's, I spent some time searching for a suitable bike. Being new to riding, I wanted something easy to ride to build up confidence. After reading many reviews, I decided on the CB125E. I managed to get one with only 75ks on the clock for a good price.
It is a fantastic bike! Uses next to no fuel, starts easily, and is so easy and enjoyable to ride. I have now travelled just over a 1000 k's and loved every minu...Read more
te of it. Servicing is very easy, the manual is very well written and I managed to adjust the valve clearance just by following the instructions. The bike is quiet and feels very stable and safe on the road. Don't buy this bike if you intent to do highway k's, it really is only suitable as a commuter, anything over 80 kph feels like you're pushing the bike too hard. As a first bike, I don't think I could have made a better choice. Everything; build quality, cheap to run, great to ride, excellent value for moneySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice ride at the best price
Decent bike for a great price. Not one for the tryhards. Had for a few months and good for commute, round town and learning. Ongoing costs are as low as it gets. Runs quietly and handles well. Not sure how good the "Kenda surprise" tyres are as yet but have done well soo far (900km).
Ride away price $2400 makes it a great way to give riding a go. Comfy to ride, cheap to run, looks pretty good
Occasionally1st to 2nd gear seems to get stuck in neutral and takes another clickup to get to 2nd.

stalls and backfires
I have owned a cb125e for over 6 months now. It seemed fine at first but then it started stalling when I stopped and back firing as I was driving. There were times I've had to idle it for over 15 minutes with the choke on or it would shall. I also had it stall on me at traffic lights and round abouts when I stop. I've taken it back to the shops a few times and they can't find a problem, I have been told to drain out the fuel before use. This seemed to help for a while but it's back to its old tricks again...think I'm gonna take it back and...Read more

ys use the choke to start it. Then drive off and leave it on for about 1min until you get smooth throttle response and it doesnt jerk when you try to go faster. Even after this if you stall it at the lights it can be hard to start just put the choke back on, its never a problem when the bike is completely warmed up but i think takes about 5min of ridding for it to easily start without choke if you stall it sometimes. The back firing problem ive had too but again not the bikes fault. You have to remember to turn OFF the choke when its warmed up and only use it when u need to. The bike fireing is caused because there is too much air or to much fuel in the carb and its out of turn and exploding in the exuast, its a malfunction as the bikes trying to get rid off it the extra fuel or gas thats causing the loud bang, If happened to me when i leafed the choke on too long and forgot to turn it off. It also backfired on me in hot summer after the first 20sec as it didnt need the choke on at all which caused it to backfire. Ive noticed too when the bike is really warm you cant even turn on the choke is the lever automattiically wont stay on and goes back to starting position, the bike is telling u u dont need it. Honenestly all this stuff about fuel injection being far better then carb is really a bit exagerated, its 2 seconds of invenience for me, flip the switch off i go and after 100m i can accerlerate even faster big deal. The bike is so easy to service and get tto things there is also an idle adjustment screw near the carb which changes how high it revs standing still. You can try running 97 octane fuel once every 5 months or so which is supposed to have cleaners in it but i think the bike is fine and you will get better and know it more with experience dont jump to conclusion just yet i think its still better option then scooter, there is a guy on ebay selling top boxes for postie and cb125 bikes for $89 that will fit.Similar opinion? I ride a 750 as well but for getting to work and just going down the shops, the 125 is just perfect.
Actually, I end up riding the CB125e way more than my bigger bike because of its ease, fun, functionality and overall usefulness! A perfect bike and from Honda, so you know it will just keep on trucking!!

Great first bike/commuter
Having not ridden a bike for 25 years, I was thinking of a scooter for a commuter. After reading the reviews on here, I went for a cb125. This is a great little bike, the relative lack of power is a benefit for someone getting used to riding, it's pretty hard to get much wrong. Agree with the other comments, I've done about 150k on it now, and it's much better now that its run in. Don't buy a scooter, this thing is much more fun.
Cheap, fuel economy is awesome, looks like a proper bike

1 in a million chance of this happening
I bought the cb125e because the price was so good compared to a second hand bike. Was pretty happy with the bike for about a month, riding to work and cursing with others on weekends. Had 2000ks on the clock and the bike broke down in between home and work. Had to get it towed back to the dealership. The engine was gone and thankfully would be rebuilt under warranty. So I've had the bike for 2 months now half of which the bike had been at the dealership in peices, waiting for parts from japan, because none of the parts are in Australia. Hope I get my bike back soon. I'm itching to ride!
the price is unbeatable
lack of parts being so new, or maybe the dealership taking their sweet time doing nothing

Good commuting bike and great for learners
I was always interested in motorcycling but the price of owning a bike always put me off thinking about getting one. Then saw this bike came out in early 2012, was blown away by how cheap this bike cost ($2685 at my dealer, my mate's canon DSLR camera cost twice the bike's money!)' and this Prompt me to go through all the trouble of getting my motorcycle license, training, looking for dealership, insurance research, and finally deliver to my house! fact that local council provide free bike only parking spot just make me feel like the luckiest person of all, made my trip to work so much comfortable, no more dependence on cars and unrealiable train service. This bike has great fuel economy (about 2.6l for 100km), cheap insurance, cheap running cost, because it uses simple carb system and most part of the bike uses simple technology, this means cheaper servicing unlike the high tech fuel injected bike or those with ABS brakes which cost crazy money if part are malfunction and need replacement. Best of all, it's a Honda bike! So quality is up to top standard (from my experience of driving Japanese cars), consider this is a cheap entry motorbike, it's quality, design and competitive price should prevent you from looking at the similar category bikes from other brands such as Taiwanese Kymco's ck125 (the cb125e bike make you look like riding a cool classic style naked bike, while the Kymco bike make you look like you're from the third world countries). If you're new to motorcycling, this is a great bike to learn on, if you want cheap and realiable commuting transport, this bike is a great alternative choice. Extremely affordable, I go to uni and work part time and go out often, still can easily manage to save up cash for this bike, pretty good design, why would u wanna get a scooter when you can get a cb125e? Need to kick real hard from first gear to second gear, otherwise always hit the neutral which is very annoying, maybe it's just me been lazy? Struggle to climb hills and keep up with traffic on steep roads, not a great touring bike to the beach as advertised, riden for little over an hour bum start to get numb and not as much thrill as the bigger engine capacity bikes, but if only riding to work it serve your every needs.2 comments

a big dissapointment because I hadn't test driven it. However, it has passed my expectations and performed excellently much to my surprise! I'm a sucker for a well designed machine, with utility to match at a great price and you don't get much cheaper than this. Most of the reviews talk about it being a good beginners bike and for learners? Ummm I've been riding for 30 years and I am happy to own a cheap reliable commuter run around that goes on the smell of an oily rag.... especially with the cost of petrol being what it is. I could of put a deposit on a cottage in Tasmania with the money iv'e lost buying cheap second hand bikes that cost me through the nose ... purchased to try to save money, so Ill only buy new these days. At this price I can afford it. Im a happy customer! Its got a simple functional design, it handles well, its quite zippy despite such a small motor. Its cheap as!!! Ummm, blue is my colour. I like the rack its very useful. Its economical to run. The key cover on the petrol tank looks like it might break off or begin to flap around at a later date!1 comment

Hi. Just brought one for my girlfriend. Rode it back from the shop to our house (approx 55km) goes well. I ride a VFR800. I'm 6ft4 and 110kg It wont drag off any cars, you probably wont be able to zip past anyone at 50km/hr. If you are a little scared about learning to ride on the road this will be the perfect bike. Even if you drop the clutch and full revs you wont get thrown around. Super easy to ride. I live near royal national park and on the way home took it through there. Great through the turns.
Cheap, Easy to throw around, great features for a learn (gear indicator, recommended gear for speed dial)
Wont drag off anything (not that i expected it to)

A nice little thing to start with
Bought this bike not long after I got the license a month ago. Been riding mainly during weekends and public holidays. The bike is very light, comfortable, easy to manoeuvre and more importantly, forgiving to ride. Many of my mistakes i.e. popping the clutch after down shift, grabbing the front brake mid-corner etc haven’t been fatal on this bike (touch wood). In my opinion this is a sensible choice for learners like myself.
The downside is of course the lack of power. I’m 173cm tall and weight 74kg and the bike struggles quite a bit going ...Read more
up hill. On the other hand that’s also the upside for beginners because you’ll be forced to change gears quickly and frequently to keep up with the traffic. Not a bad way to learn. High way is no no for this 125, personally. At 80km the engine sounds like it could explode any second. Then again, learners mustn’t work on how fast we can go. If your priorities are bike control, traffic scanning and hazards management, this machine will definitely live up to that job. Reliability? Can’t comment yet. At the time of the writing it’s only got 200km on the clock. I was told riding a budget bike it’s best to check vital parts regularly. To sum up if you’re a constantly self-assessing learner that focus on safety and skill and not narcissistic at all (don’t care my bike turns heads or not), put Honda CB125E on your shopping list.3 comments

little honda from honda motor cycles launceston tasmania and rode it to georgetown approx 50 kilometres .for people who do not know tasmania our roads are not flat .so the little bike got a work out plenty of hills .in town its an exellent bike i was impressed on the open road well remember its a new bike so it has to be run in which means trying not to go much over about haif accellerator .ask your dealer when buying any new bike ;or if you over rev it your motor wont last and you will void your warranty.it sits on 80 kms nice on the flat road at about half throttle when comming to a hill change back to 4th gear anand it is still about half throttle and if it slows down to about 65 kmh change down to 3rd gear as when the b ike is new the engine is tight .and the bike will seem under powered but once the bike has done about 50 to 70 kilometres the motor will loosen up and gives more power and will get better the more kilometres you do.as mine started pulling better as i gt about 40 kilometres on it .so just take it easy and be patianet and run it in for approx 300 to 500 kilometres and you will be abie to use the little bike to its full potentiol and throttle use .i find this bike to be every thing i was looking for and i love it so light to move aound and park holds plenty of fuel cheap to run and service at $2600 with 12 months rego ride away .and a full size bike that looks great .remember its not a sports bike .but an exellent learner or comuter .if you are planing to do a lot of long open road trips and prolonged speeds above 95 kmh you would be best to buy a 250 ..this is what i think of the honda cb125e to help out our new riders on how i found the bike to be .as being the owner of one and and how it goes on the road with my 36 years of riding and maintaining all types of bikes .70cc to 1100cc trail and road bikes .i hope this information helps you our futer rider /happy ridding Its a great little bike nice and comfortable with a good size fuel tank and fuel gauge3 comments
n0w done 300 kilometres and is pulling a lot better on hills is happy to si on 80 to 85 kmh any thing over this i find to be reving to hard .top speed maybe i guess 110 kmh flat out .but will sit on 8... Read more
0 kmh all day .so light and nice to ride and fuel lasts 4 ever good bikeMine seems to go a bit faster now it's ridden in as well... It's a bit of a bonus.... To get an extra 10km/hr on the range .... Ie up hills (about 80 - 85). On the flat about 90 - 95

My friend picked up one of these bad boys today and i decided to give it a spin. after riding a string of c@$#%y Chinese bikes i didn't think much of a 125cc motorcycle until i got on this thing.. at first i was impressed by the build quality it felt like it was worth far more then the asking price (2500 on road). After starting her up i was surprised by how quiet it was almost so quiet i didn't even know it was on. which i think is a plus if your coming home late at night and you don't want to wake up the street. .I took it out on the main roa...Read more
d and went for a 30min ride. gears change very smoothly and don't stick . and the dash also tells you which gear you are on which you don't see on bikes usually a big plus in my books. it also comes with a center stand too! these can cost 500 alone to add to a regular bike.. i managed to climb up to 80km/h no problem with no struggle can reach 110kms an hour i weight 70kgs but my mate who weights 100 can also get close to these speeds, its such a fun ride you won't help but smile while riding . if your thinking about getting this as your first bike or just as a cheap commuter i'd highly recommend in fact i plan on getting one of these as a second bike didn't think i'd like riding a lower displacement after riding 600's but for the value and enjoyment this machine brings how could you resist. Quality build, cheap to run1 comment
I'm hearing you in relation to the quietness of the motor! My neighbour has actually commented to me that they are grateful I am now riding this bike because its so much quieter than the 500cc I ride... Read more
.... when you first ride it sometimes you can actually think "ummmm is it going".. then you tug the accelerator abit and it revs and the answer comes back ...Yes! The centre stand is a great bonus I agree.... many smaller bikes are without them but they sure come in useful when its time to oil the chain.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bought a 2018 Honda Cb125e and had it shipped down to Hobart from Sydney with my furniture.
The keys have gone missing in the move.
I asked Horizon Hobart (Honda dealership here) if they can’t replace the keys with the code and they said they can’t after 2014 models.
I asked a locksmith and they said they can cut a key if it doesn’t have an immobiliser.
Then get the code and cut it.
Is this possible? Or will the entire barrel have to be replaced with newer bikes?
1 answer
It is possible for a locksmith to make a key out of the barrel. The hard bit is to find a blank key that has the same step, length and thickness of the original. The original has a long key which may be hard for locksmith to obtain. If the locksmith has to custom made it....the cost can be high

The bike must be in motion to shift so it is good practice to downshift as you come to a stop, gently disengaging the clutch can be useful in stressful situations.
