I wish I bought this sooner!
I purchased today this Honda Brush Cutter UMK425 Loop, together with a Honda Buffalo HRU19K1 and the Honda Blower HHB25 from my local mower place, Zillmere Mower Centre at Virginia, Qld.
What attracted me to this particular model was the new 4 stroke engine and the long shaft. Whilst initially reluctant to buy this due to its expensive price tag, I spent a couple of weekends doing the rounds at local mower shops and after considering how much easier owning a 4 stroke would be (to me at least), I decided to buy this without further hesitatio...Read more
n. The machine is great to hold, feels well balanced and after spending about 25 minutes using it this afternoon in varying positions, speeds and multiple stop / starts, it has not disappointed me at all. Having a very quiet engine, easy to replace the line when needed and it's 4 year domestic warranty, it's a no brainer for me and am happy I made the decision to purchase it. 4 stroke engine, length of shaft, quality and very quiet!1 comment

Not Suitable for Commercial or Large Residential
Having tested these Honda snippers repeatedly for Landscape Maintenance companies over the last 6-7 years, they are not suitable for anything but small residential use. Compared to the performance of 2 stroke models from companies such as Shindaiwa and Tanaka, Honda are not on the same page with their 4 stroke snippers. The weight of the Honda is greater and poorly balanced. Low head rotation speeds and general lack of power. The engine nearly cuts stops if it is put on certain angles. I would not recommend these to anyone, I'd rather teach them how to mix 2 stroke fuel.
I was able to get a refund.
Heavy, no power, poorly balanced.

Economical and reliable strimmer
I have owned the strimmer for 4 years, and change the oil regular, only holds a cupful so its not expensive, for the first 2 1/2 years strimming prior to lawn mowing, two gardens daily, some times a little under powered, so i changed to shindaiwi 260, and that saved me a little time. and now i just use it I'm my own garden, fortnightly !! must say i'm still quite impressed, it starts easily, is relatively quiet and is not too bad for power !!
Economical, easy to start relatively quiet
A little under powered for a gardening contractor

Awesome machine
Best money I spent, after upgrading from a big engined 2 stroke which has been great, the Honda is a delight to use has more than ample power, well balanced and goes from long to edges easy. I had hesitated on buying one but definately think it was worth the money. Nice and quiet and easy to start. Certainly can't wait to get it out on the job and give it a real workout, I will be very keen to also use it with the hedger attachment.
Balanced, well built, extra weight certainly out weighed by its performance.
Slightly more maintenance than a 2stroke

Not as good as i expected- like a swiss army knife - does a bit of everything but does it all poorly
I have just bought the GX25 honda
The bad
The D handle is flexy and uncomfortable when trimming on edge.
The shoulder strap just doesn't seem to hold the machine in a comfortable position despite all the design work that has gone into it.
It seems to use a lot of fuel.
it vibrates, especially at part throttle.
The head spins anti-clockwise which i hate as i'm right handed and prefer to walk forward. if i do this with the honda it tends to pull itself into the grass which is less controlled.(think of a Power Saw, Grinder, Router etc as a...Read more

Update: Although i still stand by my original comments i think after more use i should add the following.
The GX25 has loosened up and gained some power and uses less fuel. I would still buy a lighter... Read more

Excellent Machine. Base on this.
I bought this Honda back in September 2012 Last Year and it was the best move I did. I did earlier bought another 4 Stroke Prior to this and was a Shocking Situation I did and I return it back to the Store. I went looking for other Models and this one Pops up on EBay. I went to the Central Coast Mower Shop and Bought a Near Liking UMK425 Brushcutter With a Genuine Honda Motor on it. The Person gave me a demo of it and I bought it on the day. As with all the other reviewers on here I agree, this came with a Cutting Tool Blade along side with a N...Read more
ylon Cutting Head and Tools with it, Plus a Shoulder Strap too. Although I was a little dissapointed with the Language Owners Manual I got, But am lucky enough to download it from the Honda Website to get it including how to install the Metal Cutting Tool Head too. I have Paid this Very Cheap and my father had to buy one too. It is light and Quiet and Fuel Efficient which I can do 4 Lawns on One Tank. (Depends on the Size of the Land and Acerage) I had a 27cc 2 Stroke before and it was also a Reliable Machine I ever own and this one is even more Better with Better Built Quality. I Love My Honda. An excellent machine.
I have eyed these Honda brush cutters off for a couple of years now and finally bought one.
What a ripper, It replaces a 26cc two stroke straight shaft cheap thing that is complete rubbish when compared to the Honda (as you would expect). The Honda's are dearer to buy initially but end up being cheaper to own in the long run. I was looking at the bent shaft model and it was suggested to me to in store to even consider the next model up with a straight shaft - some excellent advice.
This machine has a clutch that stops drive to the cutter h...Read more

So....much...power!
I've had this brushcutter for about 2 years now, and it is brilliant. I used it regularly to do my entire 600sq metre block, as it was really steep and my mower died and was too heavy to drag up and down.
It is a real pleasure to use, you feel so powerful and manly, nothing gets in your way. With the supplied strap adjusted properly is is able to be used for ages without fatiguing
Fantastic piece of machinery, go get one if you can afford it, if not then save up, it will be worth it!
Quietness, ease of use, no 2 stroke mixing. Oodles of torque so you don't need to run it full on for the most part. Unbelievably fuel efficient, much better than a 2 stroke.
Expensive to buy initially. Annoying to transport.

though the UMK425 is a little more expensive than some of its competitors, with regular servicing, the value it offers will last for ages! FYI, we have just introduced separate Hedge Trimmer & Pruner attachments that connect to the UMK425 - check them out at your local Honda dealer. Has plenty of grunt behind it, takes unleaded petrol so dont worry about mixing. Instruction book is very straight forwarded and takes you step by step on how to change the oil and how to properly maintain it and keep it clean. The shoulder strap has a quick release tag as well which comes in handy.
One pull start even in cold start. Bump and go line, and easy to refill when your out of line. Comes with harness which goes over your shoulder to take the weight.
Even though its only 5kg or just under, you dont realise until you actually pick one up that it has some weight.

Had a UMK422 for over 12 years with virtually no problems prior to purchasing this unit. Have recommended them to friends and family over the years without hesitation. Use a high quality synthetic engine oil and change it frequently.
Easy to start, light and powerful
If you need major engine parts they can be very expensive making them an almost throw away item when things go badly wrong.

I bought my Honda brush cutter in 2001. I had a look at the current(2009) new models and they feel lighter, but they were dry,(no oil or fuel), which is probably about 1/2 a kilo. All I have done in 8 years is change the oil(Mobil 1) and clean the air filter once a year. I have replaced the spark plug once. It still starts on the 2nd pull of the cord. The extra weight is offset by the lowdown extra torque of the 4 stroke, which greatly reduces the amount of time I have to use it. To give you an idea, using the line trimmer to do about 500 linea...Read more
r metres takes less than an hour. The other thing is, I dont feel any tingling sensation in the hands after using it for that long.I dont know how long it will last, but I do know that when it breaks, I'll juust buy a new one. After 8 years of reasonably hard work without dissappointment, this one has well and truly justified its initial purchase cost. I find it easy to start and very quiet compared to all the 2 stroke models being used by my neighbours. It is very clean running(98 octane).Tremendous cutting power at low revs. Definitely heavier than most two stroke models.1 comment

A great improvement on the old hard-to-start 2 stroke. A pleasure to use. Comes with both line and blade heads.
Easy to start, much quieter than a 2 stroke, and far less pollution, don't have to breathe nauseating 2 stroke fumes.
One - you have to change the blade guard when you change from line to blade.

The initial purchase price may seem very expensive but you can be sure that the product will last twenty years plus if looked after properly and serviced once every 1-2 years. Although not as quiet as the electric ones it's a hell of a lot quieter than those lousy 2-strokes on the market. Will recommend this product to anyone. 11 stars out of 10.
Quality product you can rely on. 4 stroke engine, no petrol/oil mixing. Quiet. Straight shaft allows roughly equal weight distribution when carrying with two hands (with the bent shaft about 90% of the...Read more
