Awesome trimmer for any use around the yard.

published

I have had this trimmer for almost 2 years. It has trimmed over 400 lawns in this time and has not missed a beat. It is a 4 stroke engine with a solid honda engine. I have used up to 3mm line on it for most of the time and what a fantastic job it does. Trimming grass, doing edges, it even still has the original spark plug in it. The only thing that has needed replacing is the bump head, which I wore out ( my bad).
When I want another trimmer I will be going straight to the local Honda Mower centre.

Honda UMS425 / UMS425U

published

I have read some bad review re the model and not sure if I should get one. However, I was attractive by its 4 stroke engine and the price was (A$299). The outcome was very good !!! I started the engine by 1 or 2 pull and it started every time and the noise is much quieter than 2 stroke ( but 4 Stroke is a bit heavy). The trimmer line is much easier to use too. Just to push the trimmer head button and pull out certain cm length. I did not regret so far to have Honda. It is a good buy and it has power sufficient for domestic use.

Does the trick

published

Bought this as was $299 on special and in conjunction with a new Honda Mower. Wanted to purchase a cheapie from Bunnings but decided not to as our grass is old and pretty tuff.

Glad I went with the honda as it more than meets the needs of our grass.

Starts after the first or prime, which is great. Only down point is the cord replacement but easier once you get used to changing it.

Overall 9.5/10 so far. For the money, it's a pretty reasonably priced trimmer, and being a Honda, it should last for a decade or two.

Excellent product

I have had my Honda whipper snipper for about 12 years, never ever missed a beat, starts pretty much every time on the 2nd pull, never had an issue, they can be a little heavy as they are a four stroke but then that comes with reliability.
Would never go back to a 2 stroke, the other post above mine must simply be one of those ones that got through the quality contol
But should not have.
I also have a Honda lawn mower, starts every time on the first pull, fantastic products highly recommend them.

Really Good Trimmer - worth the $100 extra

published

Had a Talon trimmer for a while but the amount of smoke it expels might turn my cancer rate to a smoker so paid more for a Honda basic trimmer. Really smooth start as always, use 95 as recommended and it'll be a cake to use. love the bump feed system which makes it easier for operating as long as you get to feed it properly. If not ask your local Honda dealer and they'll happily show you. Best price is the $299 deal, wait for it and buy it then. Easy start, noise manageable and very balanced. if you hold the handle in the middle pretty much stays balanced which is very good ergonomics. Recommend to buy this.

Reliable.

Excellent trimmer, very easy to start (usually only takes 2-3 pulls). I've had mine for 7 years and it's never been serviced and i've never had an issue with it. I just top up the oil as needed.

It's also very quiet which i'm sure the neighbours appreciate.

It takes the 2.7mm cord which i find is more than adequate for the household duties, the engine is also more than powerful enough, most of the time i only have to press the trigger very lightly.

Checking out the net for a line trimmer. I see that Dylan has suggested blade accessories. However, for this model machine, at the Honda website it states: "BLADE Not recommended". Please explain.

UMS425 Bent Shaft

My UMS425 will not idle. It runs fine but as soon as I let off the throttle it stops. Have pulled apart the air filter body from the carby in case the O ring seal had cracked or deteriorated but was fine. Getting new spark plug to try but an outside chance it is that. I use 95 grade petrol. Have replaced fuel lines and filter. Adjusted the throttle to correct free play but still stops. Only if I adjust throttle so no free play adn at higher revs will it not stop. Any ideas!

The needle on the rotary valve of the carburetor needs to be adjusted, most likely out (anticlockwise) as it seems like it may be running lean on idle. This often happens when the internal carby parts harden from E10 fuel, or it is an older machine. Later model machines require a specialised tool to do the adjustment, most mower shops toss the carby and fit a new one as adjusting correctly is a specialised skill.

Thanks Craig, I was thinking of replacing the carby. Quite cheap on EBay but gave it one last go as I was getting annoyed with the grassy edges. I readjusted the throttle cable ignoring the 1~3mm idle free-play and low and behold it started idling. I added about 10% Metho to the tank to deal with the methanol residue and so far so good and will continue doing this for a while. If this occurs again a new carby is on the cards. Cheers
