Extremely efficient long lasting heater
We purchased our Archer in 2006 and it has worked extremely efficiently for the last 9 years, we run our heater on LPG. Last month when I turned it on it kept cutting out and would only work on the low setting. After reading the reviews I thought I was in for a large amount of money to fix it or replace it. I contacted Archer in Melbourne and they put us on to one of their service team and he was excellent. It only cost $300 and the heater is working better than ever. He was very informative and explained you really need someone that knows these heaters inside out to work on them or you could waste a lot of money and still not have your heater running well.
Really love it when its working well! BUT PAIN WHEN IT DONT ! :0((
Had our heater for about 11 years very efficient warms our home beautifully .
Had to have a new fan fitted cost few hundred. Bills very cheap but if you take repairs into consideration not that cheap. Have had other issues even though we always get serviced regular. Now we have a problem it keeps going out so not happy! Cost us 3400 has been pretty good but would not buy another one Need something more reliable Sold our home recently but would not buy another one due to a lot of negative reviews :(
You would think they would have sorted all ...
Lasted less than 5 years!
Purchased 2010 and paid $4000.00. Heater now will not reach High. Will get to medium to the front and back burners both on. Turn off the front low one, thinking that it should stay on medium, but after 5 minutes the fan returns to low. Authorized repair men have spent 3 hours so far trying to fix it.
Brilliant machine! Very warm and energy efficient
We moved into a house that had one already installed. We've lived here a year and are very happy with our Archer. It warms the bottom storey of the house well, is very hot on the higher setting so we usually only need it on low. We were also pleasantly surprised with how energy efficient it is considering the boost in warmth. We have literally halved our bills since using it compared to our old $1200 Rianni gas heater (you get what you pay for). Currently very happy and surprised to see any negative reviews.
Ten years on - very happy
Installed into our then new home as only heat source ten years ago. We live in Central Victoria where it gets very cold. Extremely efficient and will warm the house very quickly. There have been niggles over the years but the travelling service man is very responsive. Our heater has averaged just over one service, inspection per year. The most recent issue early this year was that batteries in the "remote" and controller needed replacing.
Don't buy one of these heaters unless you are a qualified Plumber/gasfitter!!
Purchased an Archer IS200 gas log heater which was installed on 27/5/2015. Three weeks later to the day it stopped working. Paid just on $5000 inclusive of installation. After 2 days, Plumber Hubby got it going again. Still no repairer sent to inspect it. NO after sales service!! Don't buy unless you can fix yourself.
Australian Made - Big faliure
I brought this Archer Gas Log fire heater for my new house. The sale person did his best to market this product and dump this faulty every made product to us for 5000/- AUD. First year was ok but in the winter after our heater started making terrible fan an other noise. I contacted the store here in NSW, and to my surprise I found that the store do not have any technician. I then contacted Melbourne office and received couple of service personal address from Sydney, but guess what ? each one of them was reluctant to service Archer product, ...because of their previous bad experience with this brand. I then contacted Heatmaster and they send one of their untrained technician. This person made more damage by blowing the PCB of the heater. The heater is now useless. Heatmaster quoted me 300 for the spare part and 294 for visiting and repair. In total just to start the heater I had to pay 594. Well the heater is now started but the problem is still in place. The heater is still making irritating noise. The flame switches between high and low and after sometime the flame and heating would go off but the fan would keep running. I then have to shut it off and ON to get the heating started for next couple of minutes. The head office wont bother, they are very rude and useless in term of service. My sincere suggestion, do not buy this heater, unless you want to experience the misery.
Five star lemon
First year ok then nothing but trouble, no service available. Just came back from overseas trip to find the power had been tripped while we were away, got electrician to house and it was caused by heater. It has been an absolute lemon with nothing but trouble. Won't start, only one burner will light, water pump broken. Now it caused all our food in freezer to go off by tripping the house. These heaters are crap along with service if your in Sydney.
I bought the unit from Auburn AGL and now the shop closed down. I got a telephone number for somebody to come to service the unit and still I am waiting for his call after I called him twice asking for assistance.
This is not provided for free so I don't understand why you can't train more people for service
Is ridiculous to have product made in Australia and not to have service people .
Great Gas Log Fire
Had our heater 10 to 15 years, Have been very pleased with the heat and efficiency .
When I rang about a problem the office told me over the phone what to do.
main problems were batteries or needed a vacuum out about once a year, or make sure the exhaust pipe is clear which happened once. Touch wood nothing has been replaced in that time. I totally agree with Michael
Great Heat. Noisey. Didn't work due to screws in water box getting corroded, easy fixed.
yeah they blamed the installation - as heater would only burn for about 3 minutes. issue was with condensate/humidity pump not turning on due to build up of calcium/powders onto screws - there are 3 screws that go into plastic box, when 2 longer ones are shorted with the water the fan should come on - but after a while water box drys out and leaves deposits on screws. the 3rd screw is not so deep into the container - and if this shorts as water level rises to first screw- the whole heater shuts down. check the screws if the heater stops, etc. ...Replace with full stainless steel ones from boat shop. Watch out - never muck about with it plugged in, some parts run at 12v BUT pump motor is mains - so switch off when checking screws. any build up on screws, replace them. water box lid is screwed down also. Also fan noise area is noisy, need to contact them about that too now. I had to fix heater myself, plumper was not an electrical engineer.
I had my Archer for 14 years now. Had problem about 5 years ago, nothing, only simple repair.Staff at aurora was very kind and this lady knew what i was talking about and sent me a part in two days.I will never buy other brand, why should i ?
Thank You aurora.
And guys don't forget, its cheap to run too.
Nice heat,looks,reliable,cheap to run,
Just a thermo switch,an easy job, cheap to buy from Aurora
When it works, it good, but when it breaks, might as well bin it
Bought a house with an Archer fire in it, and when it works it generates a lot of heat.
Now the fan is not coming on, and it is easier to locate Rocking Horse Droppings than get someone who can service the thing.
The only consolation is that we didn't but the thing, it came with the house, so we just got new central heating instead, easier, cheaper, and can get real live people to service it.
I would recommend staying clear of the Archer, unless your a plumber who can service it yourself of course.
Generates a lot of heat.
Once it needs service/repair, you may as well throw it out.
Aurora FS100: 10yrs old, still going strong - repaired three times.
I read the other reviews which are either: it broke, I can't get a good repairer, or, it works great and never broke down. Both love the efficiency, which I agree is great.
My Archer FS100 has been repaired 3 times for 2 problems in 10 years.
First, the convection fan has had two capacitors changed because they failed. They make the fan run on low and med speed, high does not need one. So if one fails the fan wont start or wont go to med speed. The service guy fixed these with higher grade ones.
Second, the inlet gas solenoid just fail...ed recently due to two dry solder joints under the plastic cover (electrical problem only). If your gas keeps shutting off randomly, won't relight or lights and then clunks off, you can bet the gas solenoid has dry solder joints on its internal circuit board.
Expensive repairs and Noisy fan
The fire was working work well over the last couple of years since we bought the house. Unfortunately the fan started making excessive grinding noises, so we tried to get it serviced. We contacted about half a dozen repairers who flatly refused to even look at it because the brand had such a terrible reputation. After much frustration we managed to get someone in Geelong to finally come and fix it. He was apparently the preferred repairer for Archer in the Geelong area. What a disaster he was. He fumbled around for more than 2 hours and eventua...lly replaced the fan with one( not new) that was quite noisy because it was the only one he had with him. At this point we were being charged just under $300 and that if we wanted a new fan, we would have to pay for another call out plus the cost of the fan, plus his time.....another $300+ on top of what we have already paid. WHAT? Talk about being ripped off over a lousy fan. Never again will I ever look at another Archer product. After seeing so many negative reviews on this company, I can now see why. Was godd when it worked The fan is noisy..... costly to repair..... serviceability........unatractive
Now I have found a great service guy in Perth
I did provide a poor review previously due to the lack of customer service from the Head Office when I did have a problem with one of my fires. However I have now located a service guy in Perth, Michael Jackson who I highly recommend and my fire is back to 100% efficient again.
I have had four of these fires in a couple of properties over the past 8-years and just one problem during that time, however the Head Office really does need to improve their customer service when someone does call, this is the only thing which lets them down. Otherwise a fantastic product and I would recommend.
Energy Efficient and fantastic heat
Lack of customer service from Head Office when you call
Do not purchase one of these archer heaters the service is pathetic you can not find any one to service it and the company will not stand behind their products, to old they say throw it out we don't have parts to replace damaged parts, very nice lady in front desk, but behind that they are hopeless.
Service and attitude to the customer.
Would not recommend
1st winter was fine, very little use though, now 2nd burner wont work and very disappointed . Seems to be a solenoid and from other comments is common .
Stacked up well on efficiently if only it worked .Nearly $3,000 would expect better quality.
So i would not recommend it !
Heated well when working
Obviously the quality falls short of a good product .
Aurora Gas Log
Did have a bit of a teething problem but Aurora were good and actually flew a tech out to fix it and he did this quickly.
Since then our gas log fire has been marvellous, heats whole house n doesnt use lots of gas.
I think they were a bit unreliable in past but they have really upped their game now and are a very efficient heater.
Would I buy another one if I moved?
great heat, cheap to run
Questions & Answers
My Archer gas log heater is beeping this morning. The red light above the switches is on, along with the power light?
What do i need to do to stop the beeping
Hello, Susan, you will probably need to reset or relearn the receiver for the remote in the heater this is a simple procedure that we can guide you through over the phone our phone numbers are 1300 388 953 or (03)9795-8895 best regards from Tech support at Aurora Climate Systems the manufacturer of the Archer gas log fires ......
I'm interested in your 1200 series fires, but no dealer within 100k seems to have one I could see. I've had 2 Archers and no complaints. If you want to be warmed by a gas heater, I'd say get an Archer. But if you can't see one, that's a problem. Why does Archer not appoint more dealers?
we do have a dealer in Canberra with a very good display unfortunately he just doesn't have a 1200 on display yet as it is a relatively new model we are hoping this will change in the next 3 to 4 months for the upcoming 2020 winter unfortuneatley right now the closest place you would be able to see one running would be a dealer in Sydney thank you for your inquiry best regards from Aurora Climate Systems Ph 1300 388 953 ..........
thanks, Aurora, for your reply, confirming the situation as i described it. There is a lead time associated with choosing a fire, designing the wall space, getting quotes and building in and installing a gas log fire of the nature we are talking about. By April, in Canberra at least, you are looking for a bit of warmth at night. Xmas to April is really the only time your house doesn't need it on hand. In the interests of selling,
you should have your stuff in front of potential customers all the time. Archer is in my view a good product, unique in the Australian market. If it's outsold by others, and I think it probably is, it's due in part to a pretty relaxed attitude about marketing at HQ. Best wishes, Phil M
Hi Aurora A.
I have an Archer Gas Log Fire heater (Model FS100) that was installed about ten years ago. It had been working well without any problem until recently. The problem seems to be that the fan sitting inside the heater does not work. As the body of the heater gets hot very quickly without the fan working, the heater shuts off and would not be turned back on until the body is cooled. Any suggestion or information about a repairer for the problem would be much appreciated. Thank you. David (P.S. The locality is Pymble NSW.)
Hello David if your convection fan is not running you may need a new thermistor or motor run capacitor or the fan motor itself may need to be replaced, a technician should be able to check this out for you with the use of a multimeter, also it would be good if the Tech has the parts on him so he only needs to make one trip a tech for you that has knowledge of the Archers is Phil Phelan from Hows your plumbing Ph 0412 012 789 he's based in Sydney N.S.W for other areas and advice please call Aurora on 1300 388 953 Thank you ................
