Appears to be an excellent buy
This unit was easy put together from sealed box purchased from Bunnings for $198.00. Purchased as a gift for my adult daughter and the 4 stroke no mixing fuel concept appealed to me so that the one fuel container can be used for both lawnmower and the trimmer. Trimmer started first go once oiled and fuelled. We did my edges and general tidy up of a large yard 600m block in Sydney used to show her how to use it and I wanted to test it to make sure she knew how it should be used and identify issues and there were none. Cannot fault it for the pri...Read more
ce and value. Idles well and runs strong. Not too heavy and steady 4 stroke power used for edging along driveway. This NEW Yard King represents excellent value. How long it lasts is something I am yet to see but at a quarter of the price for a known brand 4 stroke if we get 3 years out of it then it represents good buying. I used product review to search up different units so thought it only fair to then review the one I ended up buying.

Easy start. Powerful motor
Very easy start. Four stroke motor. Long straight shaft gets you under trees without yourself being caught up in the low lying branches. Comes with back strap and side body protector. The head distributes the line easily and it chomps through the grass no effort. A little heavy but thats where the backstrap comes in handy. Great entry level split shaft whipper snipper.

Pull start broke after 2 uses. Cheap plastic interior. Shame.
The unit is powerful enough. Reasonably well balanced, quite heavy. Started first time. Easily refueled. Reasonable powerful. Line mechanism is a bit difficult to reload and run out. Reliability is awful. I'm already looking for repairs after 2 uses!

Low quality product. Breaks down fast.
Was wonky from the start. Not too heavy for me. Worked fine for a year but some plastic parts were broken from the start. It still worked - it was just too much effort to go back to the shop.
Warranty just ended. And now its busted for good. Made in USA. I should have known.

2 years and still going strong. Heavy compared to a 2 stroke.
I bought this 2 years ago as an accidental replacement to my 2 stroke. My intention was to by a battery powered unit. This line trimmer came out at a much better price ($135.00 - on special) and simply has more power than a battery powered unit.
It has been a loyal unit so far - never let me down. Considering ht price point there isn't much to complain about.
Just to preface - I use/perform the following for the line trimmer:
- 98 premium unleaded
- 10w-40 Castrol Magnatec oil
- Now using aftermarket string/line (PowerFit brand)
- Cleaned every 3 months
- Stored standing...Read more

Wasted more money!
Bought this to replace an aging Ryobi. First 4-stroke whipper snipper I have ever bought....wow....what a mistake. From brand new, it constantly cuts out. If you accelerate too quickly, it stops. It is heavy and gutless compared to a 2-stroke unit. Parts are non-existent and I had to do a special order to get a spare head for it and that meant a 2 month wait (still waiting when I wrote this). Next unit I buy will be a well known 2-stroke!!!!!!

Would not recomend to purchase!
This trimmer operates extremely poor and takes many attempts to start before it works. The trimmer is also heavy weight and stressful on the body when you finally get the chance to trim.
I would not recommend anyone purchase this product, as there are other brands that would provide a better quality experience.

Failed on 2nd use
Bought on a Friday, used on Saturday was initially hard to start. Ran Ok but stalled several times. Sunday wouldn't start, eventually got going but would only run at full throttle or stalled.and would take 5 to 10 pulls to start. took back to Bunnings, they argued the point that it was fine. 15 mins of them playing with it, they agreed it was indeed faulty but would not accept it back with any fuel in it. Bunnings would not empty the fuel or help her poor it into her car. Wife had to return home, empty fuel then go back again for the replacement. not tried the replacement as yet.

Great trimmer
Works really well. It's quite powerful but control is easy and don't need to press full throttle to get the job done. I use it on front and backyard, approximatley 400 m2 of yard in total. Changing the line is pretty easy. Very happy with the purchase. Would definitely recommend this trimmer.

Worst trimmer i have owned
Very hard to start, will not idle properly. Cuts out when using it. Uses alot of fuel. Has high vibration through the shaft. Plastics are cheap. Bought this so i didn't have to mix fuel anymore, but will be getting rid of this and buying something of better quality. Absolute waste of money

Heavy but works well
This cuts really well. I haven't had to stop to retrieve busted chords. Easy to start and runs on any angle. Sounds a bit tinny but I have not yet had any issues. Comes with a carry strap. Being four stroke I no longer have to mix fuel. How much better is that. Great entry level 4 stroke trimmer.

Perfect Chinese copy of a Honda UMK425
Recent legislative changes are gearing towards a phasing out of 2 stroke engines unless direct injected. My old Ryobi finally seized a bearing after a long period of inadvertant commercial use and operating well outside its design parameters. I no longer mow commercially so couldn't warrant another Honda or Shindaiwa. Enter this guy in a bright yellow cowling.
The first thing that I noticed was the throttle. Identical to the Honda. The similarities didn't stop there, fuel tank, block design and cooling fins all very similar. Less than half t...Read more
he price so I took a gamble on an unknown (manual claims Briggs and Stratton are the importer) brand. Oil isn't included in the box but any good 10W/30 will do the trick. Attach the handle and guard and away you go. Once primed it starts second pull on choke and then flick the butterfly away - once again like the Honda. Sounds identical to one as well. Spent the last couple of days with several hours of slashing in 35c temps to get the terrain back under control and it worked perfectly without any hesitation. Takes anywhere from 2-3mm line with 2.4 recommended. Bump head is very similar with the line refill halved and wrapped around two halves of the spool. Bump feed works well with minimal hesitation. For a sub $200 unit it's great. Long term use will show how reliable it is.1 comment

You have to prize the cover from the spindle. Good luck with such a piece of rubbish. No more shopping at Bunnings for machinery for me.

I've been using this unit for a few months now and the only criticism I have is oil control when idle - must be stored carburettor side up or else you have a cloud of blue smoke on startup. Otherwise absolutely brilliant for the price.
