A load of rubbish
When the local mower bloke said that Honda had gone down hill I didn't believe him but my whipper snipper proved him right. I quickly had problems with it starting and suspected electrical issues so I took it to the local Honda dealer. What a rip off. They blamed lack of service and scalped me $100 for the privilege. It didn't fix it so I bought a new coil and solved my own problem. About 6 months later it wouldn't start. That was it. I threw it in the bin and bought a Shindaiwa, Never again.

Sarah,
Thanks for the response but it's too late. I wasn't prepared to spend anymore on it and knowing how bad the local dealer is I decided to look at something different. A pity as my 25 year old H... Read more
onda lawn mower just keeps going. Also the fact that a simple Google search confirmed my diagnosis of the original problem really rubbed me up the wrong way.

Easy start, Quiet.
Extremely easy to start, very economical to run, doesn't use very much fuel and have used it quite a bit and haven't changed the line yet. Very quiet running at idle or full throttle. Plenty of power available. Little bit heavier than my last 2 stroke, but not much. Very happy so far.

Awesome trimmer for any use around the yard.
I have had this trimmer for almost 2 years. It has trimmed over 400 lawns in this time and has not missed a beat. It is a 4 stroke engine with a solid honda engine. I have used up to 3mm line on it for most of the time and what a fantastic job it does. Trimming grass, doing edges, it even still has the original spark plug in it. The only thing that has needed replacing is the bump head, which I wore out ( my bad).
When I want another trimmer I will be going straight to the local Honda Mower centre.

Perfect
Bought this 2 years ago, never had 1 problem at all. Starts 1st time every time, easy to use, not as light as a 2 stroke, but still light and easily maneuvered. I give this trimmer a hiding, and it still comes back for more.
Great work Honda, thank you, and no, I do not work for Honda, just a very happy customer.

Great Tool, thanks to tdphilips
Inherited the UMS425 with the house we just bought and had the same problem with the engine cutting out after 10-20min. I could not believe it as I think that Honda makes the most reliable small 4 stroke engines so I searched in the internet and thanks to the tip with the fuel line from @tdphilips this problem is solved and the machine runs full power and without problems for hours!

Honda UMS425 / UMS425U
I have read some bad review re the model and not sure if I should get one. However, I was attractive by its 4 stroke engine and the price was (A$299). The outcome was very good !!! I started the engine by 1 or 2 pull and it started every time and the noise is much quieter than 2 stroke ( but 4 Stroke is a bit heavy). The trimmer line is much easier to use too. Just to push the trimmer head button and pull out certain cm length. I did not regret so far to have Honda. It is a good buy and it has power sufficient for domestic use.

No Regret
Bought this product for almost 5 years ago for just over $400 and it is still going well. We owned a 2 stroke and it was such a hassle to refuel. It is also recommended to use freshly mixed fuel every time. Then one needs to get the correct oil petrol ratio or it won't be easy to start. Now just refuel & start.
It comes with a tap-n-go trimmer head so what used to take 5 mins to lengthen the line, now it only takes a few seconds.
The only down side is the trimmer head is plastic so I need to be careful when tap-n-go.

Never had a problem
Don't know what everyone is going on about. I got my Honda ums425u for a birthday present. Its never let me down. I Guess the one pull start is annoying but no more than 3 pulls to start when cold. when warm it always starts first pull. Not having to mix fuel is great to. I love this piece of equipment and never want anything else.

Does the trick
Bought this as was $299 on special and in conjunction with a new Honda Mower. Wanted to purchase a cheapie from Bunnings but decided not to as our grass is old and pretty tuff.
Glad I went with the honda as it more than meets the needs of our grass.
Starts after the first or prime, which is great. Only down point is the cord replacement but easier once you get used to changing it.
Overall 9.5/10 so far. For the money, it's a pretty reasonably priced trimmer, and being a Honda, it should last for a decade or two.

Great motor - after modification
Bought a new GX25, on line purchase, which initially started and ran fine, then after approx 10 minutes had loss of power, stalling, hard to start, I was not impressed. Packed to send back but investigated a bit further and found the grey fuel line which has a bit of black sleeving over it was kinked behind a black clip between the carby and fuel tank. Shortened this line by approx 6mm each end and did not put behind the clip, gently cable tied to the clear fuel line for support, no chance to kink now. Motor runs perfect, starts first time and ...Read more
power to full throttle. Quiet, smooth and controllable power - enough power for the multitool attachments but more importantly for me, light enough to use for many hours. This issue may have been just my engine but others have described similar complaints, hope this helps.1 comment

Pile of unreliable junk
Bought this snipper too replace a 2 stroke cheapie that was hard to start, I thought I would spend more in the hope of getting more quality and reliabilty, so I stumped up 3 times the price of a Bunnings cheapie and bought a 4 stroke Honda.
From the second time I used it it started to cut out after only a couple of minutes running, it would start again and just do the same thing.
I see from forums that others have had similar problems, very disappointed.

Excellent product
I have had my Honda whipper snipper for about 12 years, never ever missed a beat, starts pretty much every time on the 2nd pull, never had an issue, they can be a little heavy as they are a four stroke but then that comes with reliability.
Would never go back to a 2 stroke, the other post above mine must simply be one of those ones that got through the quality contol
But should not have.
I also have a Honda lawn mower, starts every time on the first pull, fantastic products highly recommend them.

Really Good Trimmer - worth the $100 extra
Had a Talon trimmer for a while but the amount of smoke it expels might turn my cancer rate to a smoker so paid more for a Honda basic trimmer. Really smooth start as always, use 95 as recommended and it'll be a cake to use. love the bump feed system which makes it easier for operating as long as you get to feed it properly. If not ask your local Honda dealer and they'll happily show you. Best price is the $299 deal, wait for it and buy it then. Easy start, noise manageable and very balanced. if you hold the handle in the middle pretty much stays balanced which is very good ergonomics. Recommend to buy this.

Dead after 12 months, used only 5-6 times
Was recommended to buy this from the good folk at Charmhaven Mower & Trimmers, paid $300 for it based on the fact that I was sick of mixing oil/fuel in my old 2 stroke Ryobi. It worked ok about 5 times but would seem to just cut out after about 10 mins of use. Then wasn't needed for about 3 months due to the cooler weather. Started her up on Saturday, went solidly for about 20 mins then just stopped mid way through doing the edges and now will not tick over at all. Guys at the store took a look at it and are mystified. Has had to be sent away apparently for assessment. I've never had a problem with a garden product before but then not used Honda before either so unimpressed thus far.

Not the best hedge trimmer
Bought it 1 year ago as a hedge trimmer combo with pole extension, sold it just recently . I tried to live with it as a pole hedger but the bad balance and weight gave me too many problems with my right arm and lower back .I have 80 mtr of cypress hedges as well as 6omts of sir walter all over 3 mtrs tall .I traded it in for a Shindaiwa M230 multitool and hedger attachment ., I wont be needing the Chiro as the weight and balance is quite manageable have already used it for about 12 hours since purchase and have no issues .A 4 stroke hedger ...Read more
, whipper snipper or chainsaw ---forget it, the Shindaiwa throttle response and power is amazing for such a light unit and very manageable when hoisted in the air for tall hedges . Well made except for the Honda gasket material in the sump, common issue with honda garden motors . Needs to be lighter and better revving1 comment

There are kits on-line that claim to do just that and I've used a blade on mine instead of the head so I would think the answer is yes.
