Transmission issues - gearbox needs to be replaced
Hi, I have to say that I'm very disappointed in hyundai service centre and service. My hyundai I30 wagon cw2009 has got transmission issues and needs a new gearbox which will cost $4200. I was told by a hyundai service center employees that this has been a common fault in those type hyundai vehicles therefore I rang the hyundai service center 5 times within 2 weeks and at my 6 call I was told well bad luck your car is out of the warranty period therefore we won't be able fix the car and we are not willing to come to some kind of solution w...Read more

BUYER BEWARE
To Managing Director, Hyundai.
I own a Hyundai I30, manufactured in 2009 that requires a new steering column as quoted by Sinclair Hyundai, Penrith. I am writing to you today requesting the repair be carried out at no cost to myself as this is clearly a manufacturing fault.
The noise was originally noticed during the 75000km service and I was told by the dealer my steering rack required replacing. I saved to have this repair carried out to ensure the car was safe to drive as I'm a young mother with 2 children who relies on my I30 to safel...Read more
y transport my children to and from school, myself to and from work and for other personal usage. I raised my concerns with Hyundai Sinclair asking if a major repair as such was normal given the age of the car and the kms it had been driven. It was a very expensive repair for a car just outside of the warranty and I am in no way in a position to pay the quoted $1200 for the repairs but was assured it wasn't a manufacturing fault and advised it was an issue due to general wear. As Hyundai is a reputable brand, I trusted the advice provided. I needed my car up and running without issue for the previously mentioned reasons so I saved for 2 months to afford getting the repair carried out. This was completed on the 13.05.2016 however, to my dismay, the knocking was evident still and I was advised to monitor it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellant value for money
This car is very good value for money, Faults very hard to find if any. The interior is very plastic but for the price is better than the competition.Handling could be firmer but again for what the car is it is fine. The car will cruise on 120ks all day long and return fuel economy of 6.5 Litres per hundred ks and still have reserve power if needed. The only problem I have is the service cost which Hyundai will not address, I find $500 to change engine coolant and change transmission oil to be very expensive even by dealer standards. A polite qu...Read more

Disappointed
We have an i30 Station Wagon 2011 and have had clunking noises near the left wheel for the last 6 months and a loud whirring noises on acceleration. We took the car to 2 different mechanics, one in May and August 2016 who were not able to find anything. Went to a third yesterday and they have said there is a lot of movement in the left hand drive shaft and suspect internal failure of the differential. We were told we need a new gear box which could range from $5000 - $6000! The warranty on the car expired on the 30th September 2016, however we have only done 77,000km. We think we should try and make a claim against the warranty...just doesn't seem right. Not what we were expecting from a car with a solid reputation around reliability

Good, but not great.
I drove a Hyundai i30CW (2.0L petrol, automatic, SX trim level) as a work vehicle from new. I found it to be a surprisingly competent vehicle with excellent interior space and safe, if hardly exciting, road manners. Seats and trim seemed quite hard wearing and comfortable over long distances. Fuel economy was about average for this size vehicle - around 9L/100km in mixed driving, down to under 7L/100km on the highway. The engine was willing enough, but hardly a powerhouse and I found it to be a bit wanting for torque at the bottom end. The...Read more
transmission is the only part of this car I disliked. Its changes were lazy and it developed a disturbing slip after only 50,000km. A normal employer would probably have this fixed under warranty, but my boss didn't want the car off the road. The base model is well equipped for the price, but I did miss cruise control and the stereo system refused to play via USB. The USB port also refused to charge my iPod or mobile phone. The i30 was an excellent vehicle for the purpose and would suit small families perfectly. However, based on my experience, I would recommend a manual transmission.Similar opinion? Way better than expected
Bought this as a car for my son. Was very impressed with the amount of interior space. The dash is well layed out, everything is where you expect it to be, and is very intuitive. The running costs are low, he fills it up about once a month, it does a few urban K's. The diesel is a lot my spritely than I believed it should be, and is a lot quicker than I believed it should be, (purchased it online second hand sight unseen) It does everything really competently. I only have two grips, the air conditioner is not very effective on days over 34 degrees C, and the lack of cruise control, more up spec models would have the later. The fit and finish is very good for a car in this class. It feels really solid.

What an awesome small car!
Been driving my Hyundai i30 for close to 7 years now and have loved driving it ever since.
It's a nice small car with all the basic features you'll expect to get.
Easy to load things in and out of the back and with the seats folded down provides even more room although I've never been able to get them to go fully flat even when the front seats were fully pushed forward.
The upholstery is still holding up after years of frequent usage, good legroom and overall haven't had any major interior problems.
Performance wise, smooth gear changes...Read more
, low noise and good visibility. Now for the bad, I've experienced major problems with power steering after about 4-5 years which has cause the wheel to suddenly become very stiff and extremely hard to turn (very dangerous while driving), which costed about $3,000+ dollars to fix without warranty. Not happy with that.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good value
Bought my i30CW new in Dec 2010. Very reliable, handling is good, performance is average, but you don't expect a Ferrari for this money, don't you? Consumption is a bit too high IMO, especially in city traffic (10 litres/100km). The quality of the coachwork and the interior is very good, no squeaks or creaks so far. We like the comfort and the ergonomics. Loading is very easy from the back. Doughy gearbox. Very unhappy with the remote entry keys, on one the rubber buttons have disintegrated and on the other one the key blade just fell off! Apparently one replacement key costs over $400…Hyundai you MUST be joking! Not happy. Looking for a less expensive solution...

Bulletproof!
Bought the car new in 2008 and held it for 6 years. When new I was averaging 6 litres per 100Km, but six years and 330,000+ Km later it was delivering 100Km for 6.1 litres - that's right, the fuel economy deteriorated by 0.1 litres. On top of that, the original set of brake pads lasted 195,000Km. The diesel engine is bulletproof and bolts up the steepest of inclines. Great car.

Total Lemon
Bought brand New January 2011, gearbox valve body replaced, steering rack replaced, drivers seat belt stalk went open circuit, brake light switch replaced 3 times open circuit as well, blows low beam head light bulb alternating left to right at approx. 13,000kms - 9 times now, mechanic disconnected thermo fan while trying to fix head lights - nearly cooked engine in traffic, replaced tyres at 23,000kms as it would not hold wheel alignment. a total lemon that they say they can fix and yet never do.

not good enough
Bought it new, the 2011 i30 2.0L hatchback in auto. Gearbox was replaced in the first year. Its four years in now and the Muffler is now rattling quite audibly and will be replaced as well. Fuel lid won't pop open properly, even after service techs at hyundai have adjusted. Lucky its still under warranty...
We've been servicing it Phil Gilberts, expensive and poorly done. Have had to return to them three times to get the gearbox sorted properly.
We chose this over the Honda civic and Mazda 3 coz of the price. Maybe stick to Jap cars next time.

A great affordable car!
This little car ticks all the boxes. I was driving an Audi until a separation left me carless. This has all the features of the upmarket cars for a fraction of the price. I took one star off as the interior is not the high end of the European vehicle but for 40k less who cares! Great value and lovely to drive.
Replacement keys though are outrageously expensive. Make sure you get both keys if buying second hand. You are looking $400+ for replacement!

No 5 year warranty on clock and whole CD/radio console - cuts out at 3 years!
My delightful 2010 i30 is under warranty for 5 years
but when the clock went haywire a few months back, Hyundai said there is only a 3 year warranty on the clock, and therefore on the entire centre panel! (This was a couple of months over the 3 year mark)
They told me I would have to purchase a whole new central component for CD, radio, heating, aircon, clock etc!. The whole thing! For the clock to fail at just over three years is appalling, as I would reasonably expect this component to last the life of the car.

Hyundai surprise
Just purchased an automatic 2009 i30cw diesel turbo model and I must say it really took me by surprise how well it handles, looks and drives. It is extremely roomy and has great power for overtaking on highways. After a lot of research which car to buy, I am very happy I have decided on the Hyundai i30. It meets all my needs, lots of room, great handling, comfortable seating for my sore back and great fuel economy and all at an affordable price.

Good, reliable car.
Have a 2009 i30cw sx 1.6 Cdri 5sp manual Now has just over 60,000km on odometer. My first new car and also looked at Cruise and Focus diesels. Came down to price and space. I do like the Focus as it is a 2L and 6sp manual and the drive line was in use for I think near a decade (so proven performance) as for the Cruise, it was only SOHC and I think a cheap nasty piece of work.
The factory tyres were noisy but the replacement tyres are quieter and more comfortable to ride. With a good 5w 30 fully synthetic oil I get at least 700km per tank. Most...Read more

Great little car
I love my little 2012 i30. It's efficient on fuel. Has Bluetooth and all those fancy things you would want in a car. The only downside is I think the boot is a little small and this proved to be a pain in the backside when I had a pram in there and done the groceries. It's not so much of issue now my son doesn't use it.
But all in all, it's a Fantasic little car and I'm very happy with it
Bluetooth, USB, hidey holes in boot, roomy drivers seat
Small boot

2009 i-30 Love it
I had a getz which i traded in for my new 1-30, only because of size, getz was 2 door and I need 4 (Grandkids), I have had no problems at all, very good on fuel, I have to 2.0 so plenty of power for me. I have only done 37,000 over the 5 years. Nothing has worn, faded or needed repairing. Very roomy in front and back, I have had 4 big adults in car no worries and constantly carry 5, Myself and 4 children. Handles very well, I have the 5 speed manual and very easy to drive, have taught my 28 year old daughter the gears in it no problems. (she ...Read more

Best decision
I bought the i30 diesel CW manual new in 2010 and it has proved to be an excellent car all round. The extra wheelbase gives room inside for Australian size adults - 4 easily, 5 is also doable. The room in the back, especially with the seats down, constantly amazes me. Impulse shopping is easy - we have brought home all sorts of things we didn't set out to buy, because we had the room. Fuel economy is consistently above 18 km/L and if I fill the tank to the brim I can travel 1,000 km before refilling. Service costs (not at dealers) have been aff...Read more
ordable. The service interval is 15,000 km, however I change the oil myself at the half way mark because I am old fashioned and tend to over service my vehicles. Tyre wear has been good since I replaced the tyres - the wheel alignment from the factory was way out and the front tyres only lasted 40,000 km. The current set have already passed that and have plenty to go. It is a great car to drive and handles very well. The sound system is the best factory system I have ever heard in a car. I usually change my cars over at 5 years (about 100,000 km) but I now have the dilemma of keeping this one or buying another i30. Value for money, economoy of ownership, safety, comfort, interior space Wheel alignment when new1 comment
Isn't Diesel fuel more expensive to maintain and only suitable for long drive? I am going to buy second hand 2009 i30 FD SLX MYO9 just for city short drive use for mum. Have you any advice? Thanks

A zippy little runabout
Bought a 2.0l Trophy with auto 3 years back and haven't had a minute of regret. It was only meant to be a replacement for wifey's ageing Nova but has become the family car and mine was relegated to just being the car to go to and from work. It's fun to drive, likes to go around bends and has a reasonable amount of oomph. I have a bad back and I love those seats. They keep you in place around bends nicely and even after 5 hours behind the wheel, I get out of the car pain free. The interior is well thought through and presented and rear legroom i...Read more
s rather generous for a car in its class. It offers plenty of storage space and has Bluetooth audio streaming (to me, this is a must have feature). In the time we've had it, we had a recall about a faulty brake light switch, which caused the ESP warning light to come on and besides that had the spring of the fuel flap tightened. No dramas whatsoever. The only downside of the car is the 4-speed auto. It's a bit dated and a 6-speed would have made the car perfect. I never thought I'd say this about a Hyundai but this is a brilliant car. Good bang for buck, fun to drive, good build quality, long warranty, well presented and thought through 4-speed auto is a bit dated, clock on the radio is fast and needs frequent adjustmentSimilar opinion? I have a Hyundai i30 2011 which I bought second hand 4 years ago. Recently my dash lights turn off intermittently - everything else appears to work but all lights on the speedometer/tachometer/odometer not working. When I have taken my car to mechanic or auto electric the problem can’t be replicated and therefore not resolved! Does anyone have ideas of what could be going wrong?
