Can only comment on my 2009 model but no, both rows only lay back around 50 degrees. I have heard you can modify them yourself to lie flat, but not sure how that would affect the safety of the seat.

I have 2014 Imax and I have removed seats but how do I remove metal tracks from 2nd row of seats?

The tracks are screwed to the lower metal part of the car so it's a matter of unbolting them from under the car.

Thanks Richard, I was able to find a manager of our local Super Cheap and he showed me how to do this. :)

Can you remove the middle row of seats in an IMAX?

1 answer
Richard
Richard

Yes, you can but the middle row seats run in tracks and those tracks go almost to the rear seats that are fixed.
If you are looking into increase the cargo space I'll definitely remove the third-row seats.

You probably know by now that you can, I removed mine as I use it for dog showing, just let your insurance provider know that you have in case you have an accident. It will be noted you have advised them and they still accepted to insure you.

Can the rear seats be moved further back for more leg room in rear seat?

1 answer
Richard
Richard

The second row seats can be moved as far as almost touching the third row, so the second row seat passengers can feel like they are in a limo. And talking about limos, because the iMax have the iLoad cargo version where all the rear windows are metal, the rear windows in the iMax are legally allowed to have transparency up to 0% exactly like the limos.

You can only remove the rear row of seats by unscrewing them so not good for a quick changeover. There are iMax's available that have only two rows of seats.

WLJ

Thanks Nunnington for your reply . We intend to just leave the seats out and probably sell them. We have the option of an IMAX or ILOAD at similar prices but thought if we could remove the seats easy enough, the IMAX being a passenger vehicle was finished off nicer inside.

My 2010 Imax 2.5 diesel has 145000kms and has started making a tapping/ringing sound when I accelerate. Does anyone know what might be causing it? And is it safe to drive ?

I am not a motor mechanic by trade but I have driven different iMax more recent models for 4 years & I owned more than 12 different cars in my 35 years driving. My suspicion is the gear box, if the sound is from muffler, the other possibility is the brake disc pad but brake disc pad should be when you are braking & sound is grinding & brakes start to slip. The gear box is a barrel anchored with both the shaft & separate clutch ( which is all the small beads/bearing are ). If that's the case, just look after the car, don't go too hard, not much else you can do.

My mechanic is currently taking my engine apart to look at the timing chain. He got his info from the engineer. But the computer is saying a cam/crankshaft issues and my engine light is still on with new cam/crank sensors installed. Car drives like it can't get out of second or third gear.

I recently had the car in for a simple unrelated bumper repair and on picking it up my wife could not drive 20klms without it stopping & developing loud bottom end noises. It is a 2009 Petrol with 170,000klms on it. The problem has come out of nowhere - only the best oils and filters used on this vehicle serviced within the 15,000klms. I don't believe it is a turbo motor and when my mechanic pulls it down I am hopeful we will find the cause, By the way when it is cold you would not know it has a problem as it starts straight away and has no noise. It is only when it warms up that the bottom noise end comes in. It would be good if someone from Hyundai could read these posts and provide some input!!

Bill B do you have an update we are currently fighting the extended warranty as our crankshaft split in half causing the piston to go through the motor at 158,000 08 petrol I just called a random mechanic who said his friend had same issue and it was stretched timing chain blocking oil valve causing damage

My 2010 imax has always cut out. driving along and all of a sudden it just stops, loses all power. I have had it back a number of times and also to the auto electrician and nobody can find anything wrong with it. It is not fussy when or where it does this and at any speed but mostly whilst turning or merging onto a freeway, (yes we have had some close calls on the road as you lose every bit of power including steering). can someone please help with this?

I would suggest you take it to Hyundai. If it's still under warranty, push them until they fix it.

Also check Internet forums, they are a wealth of knowledge.

Other than that, do what I'm doing, and look at trading it in on something else... Sorry I can't help more than that, im not a mechanic.

Good luck Sue!

Have never had that problem before. Sounds pretty serious, if it were to happen as crossing traffic. Diffinitely a dealer question

Thank you and I ended up trading it in on a holden captiva heaps smaller but hyundai wouldn't budge...

Hi Jimmy,

As far as I'm aware, you can only get the diesel in manual. If auto is an option, I'd still go for the manual personally.

The manual diesel is far more responsive to the petrol models my friends own in auto and manual.

None of the iMax's I've seen have leather. Probably best to speak with Hyundai.

Hope this helps. All the best.

We have just purchased a 2011 model and love it however am having a few issues with the controls attached to the steering wheel. I find that they work sometimes however other times the volume goes down when it should go up, it sometimes changes the channel or the search channel option turns the radio off etc. Has anyone else had these issues? I don't know whether to chase Hyundai to fix it or just put up with it as driving has no issues???

I would take your IMAX to Hyundai and get it fixed under warranty if possible. I've never had this problem. Sorry to hear it, I hope it is fixed for you.

Hi Tanya. As I posted to Jimmy06, my advice is to keep every receipt for the iMax, as the turbo has just blown on mine (last week 150,000Ks) and Hyundai want every invoice from the licenced mechanics that regularly service my van. I got the first few services done at Hyundai but decided to go to my local mechanic as he was way cheaper using Hyundai parts. Customer care called me today and said that Hyundai may or may not honour the 5 year/unlimited k warranty, even though the van is 4 years old...
