Hiya, I had that happen when I tried to pull thick fabric through. If it keeps happening ALL the time, change out the needle plate, new needle, then slowly check the alignment. If it's still out, get it serviced.
Good luck.

I have a Jenome my excel 18W and I'm sewing a zig zag stitch on to a thick material. I think the material is too thick/close to the foot so the machine can't grab and move the material up. Is there a way to raise the height of the footer so that my material fits underneath it better whilst sewing?

On my Janome.myexcel18w the cotton was tangling so I took the bobbin casing out and dusted and put it back in. Now the stitches are loose. What should I do?

Ours is 2 years old now and our daughters is a year old. You can still buy them but they have been making them for a long time, which is good if it ever needs a part

It is quite old model but best machine though, runs very well, easy to use, never gives any problem.

How do you do straight stitch please?

Select straight stitch n begin to sew. If u mean how to maintain a straight stitch line then use the markings on the bobbin cover or stick a tape across vertically n guide the fabric as along the tape. I usually do this. Hope this helps!

Have a look at the pedal switch and make sure it is in the high speed position. Also make sure that the bobbin mechanism isn't full of balled up cotton causing a jam

The foot motor have turn to slow, turn it on fast. That's the only reason machine runs slow

I also have this problem and have checked both of your replies and it is neither. Could it be the clutch or clutch motor??

There are two controls on the machine one to increase stitch length and one to increase stitch width. The slide controls are on the machines right. On a lift up panel on top of the machine is a stitch setting guide! Hope this helps
