Falls apart after 70 000 kms
Took delivery in Oct 2011 of Laredo diesel and apart from all the recalls has been great car. Just before 70 000km lost air con, the condenser was cracked and had to be replaced (replaced by Jeep), rear brake rotors had to be replaced, ended up with a serious service bill. I don't go off road and tow a 1500 kg boat back and forward to local boat ramp, 10 km round trip and have done approx 400 km towing on a couple of holidays towing, can't understand why rear rotors are worn out but the fronts are fine. The engine warning light comes on now a...Read more
nd again, I ignore for 2 days and it goes away. Now for the left rear creaking noise; at same time the service centre had car for a month, gave me a great loan Suburu Outback, took the JGC apart etc. eventually found to be a rear suspension bush that they lubricated. Started creaking again so is back in again at 75k for another recall and back again for replacement of the bush, after 1 day they had to order more parts, after 2 days no news; I am back in the new Suburu Outback awaiting the next huge bill. Update: the weld holding a suspension retaining nut broke inside the subframe, the JGC was in for another month (another great Subaru Outback loan car) while they performed major surgery, it’s now fixed. Moral of the story is dont buy a Jeep, the quality of the parts is extremely poor resulting in multiple recalls and replacements outside warranty. What you save at the time of purchase you loose during ownership paying in money and time while the car is at dealer.Purchased in October 2021.

Brilliant Tow Car
We bought a diesel Laredo 2013 model with the new 8 speed ZF gearbox. Its primary duty is to tow our new 2.5 tonne caravan. It does the job brilliantly. The torque is enormous. The car spends its time between 7th and 8th gear and returns about 16.5l/100km when towing. Compared to the alternatives that's exceptional. The fit and finish and the cabin materials are not in the same class as a German product but then the price is not a premium either. So far all is excellent.
Just adding more information. With further towing for 2100km the fuel co...Read more
nsumption is sitting on 14.3l/100km. Fellow caravanners met on the way find that unbelievable when towing (another correction ) 2.7tonne. This is not a city car. Don't buy it as a daily commuter to work or the shops. But as a highway cruiser, powerful and frugality tow car it's impressive. Update. A faulty and totally flat battery. No hassle about a warranty claim but Jeep warehouse carried no spare batteries. Pretty astounding considering how many are sold here. Also the agent sent to start the car was totally unprepared and inadequately trained. The car had to be removed on the back of a truck. And that's another story. Rather a complex issue to get the gearbox out of park when there is no electronics. I wonder what happens in remote areas if the same thing happens? However after 3 days a new battery was fitted and away we go. Note, it has to be a Jeep battery not any sort that the average punter would hunt up from the RACV or whoever. No, only Jeep will do except if it's not available at tg back of Bourke. Then the local mechanic is authorised to use a compliant battery. Protocols must be followed! Towing power. Fuel consumption. Almost complete features. Minor turbo hesitation on takeoff. No GPS offered on Laredo.
Purchased in April 2021 for $51,000.00.

I love my Grand Cherokee.
I love my Grand Cherokee. It drives like a car. It has enough space for my wife and me. It easily tows our Ultimate Camper and 1 tonne enclosed 2.5m x 2.5m x 8m aircraft trailer. I carry the auxiliary battery in a battery box behind the drivers seat on bush trips and it works fine. The average fuel consumption including 30% towing is 12.5L/100km. When not towing it will use 9.8L/100km at 100km/hr and around 11.5 (+/-1L/100km) at a genuine 110km/hr, depending on the wind. Towing at 100km/hr it typically uses around 14L/100km. I will remove the e...Read more
xposed threaded section on top of the OME front suspension struts with the angle grinder before the next big bush trip to stop them rattling against the inner mud guard. I was excited about the new model with more rear leg room, improved aerodynamics, even more grunt, bigger fuel tank and the spare tyre inside where the rocks can't chip the rim. My enthusiasm waned when I found it has fat wheels with a skinny spare. Where do you put an oversized flat tyre if you are fully loaded and 100's of kilometres from civilisation? Also I am not a fan of independent rear suspension. It's great for motoring journalists and rev-heads but probably not for long term owners, especially those that tow. In my experience the tyres wear unevenly due to the changes in camber with suspension movement, so they have to be replaced prematurely. I don't want to be let down in the bush so I am not sure I would trust the pump-up suspension enough to fork-out the extra money. For the time being I will tolerate the higher fuel consumption and increasing maintenance requirements with the old Jeep and take heart that I am saving on depreciation. Postscript: After nearly 7 years of ownership I installed a Green Diesel Engineering (GDE) computer remap. The Grand Cherokee now consistently averages around 10L/100km in normal highway driving. My records show a 9% fuel saving, with no loss of power. GDE claim this is achieved by eliminating fuel injector pulses introduced only to reduce engine noise. Some long term issues: At 120,000 km the serpentine engine accessory belt needs replacing according to the service schedule. At this time the belt tensioner and idler pulleys, including the alternator pulley (with in-built over-running clutch) were at the end of their service life. It is better to replace them at the same time as the belt to avoid a failure.

ood torque. Comfortable if you are sitting up front and very easy to live with. Fuel cons highway 9.5km/l based on my 50km commute to & from work on mostly 100kph / 110 kph roads. Not as good as they claim, but still good for a vehicle this heavy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo diesel
We bought this to replace an ageing Patrol, mainly for using as a tow vehicle, for our 2.8 tonne caravan.
We just LOVE the new Jeep. It is a delight to drive, enormous torque, superlative auto gearbox, fantastic economy. Whilst it's early days yet (have had it less than one month), right from pick up from the dealer everything has been perfect. I just absolutely love driving it.
I'm really blown away by the engine/gearbox combination. The ZF 8 speed auto is brilliant whether in Drive, or using the manual control, and maybe why it's also in BMW'...Read more

nce markers. 2. That foot operated park brake. Damn silly idea. What's wrong with an electric one like our new VW Golf? Overriding those two matters is the brilliant towing ability and astounding fuel economy. 2000km caravan trip with a 2.5tonne van around the coast of NSW averages 14.9l/100km. Beat that, Landcruisers!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
