Ordinary car
Well we have finally sold our Rio, after 2 services from Dandenong Kia/Nissan, which ended up costing us money after each service, at 45,000 kms we got the service done, also needed brakes all round, so expensive, $1200, after we got the car home I took it to Bob Jane to have new tyres fitted, the wheels were rattle gunned on so tight that one of the wheels cracked, one had to be cut off the car, one had the wheel stud destroyed, $1000 dollars later, new wheels and tyres, next service I showed the report to Dandenong Kia, they said no way it c...Read more
ould happen, I told him have a look at the date, one day after the service, they said sorry but took no responsibility for anything, 60,000 kms service, they did not change the oil filter, just filled an extra 3.5 litres into the engine, 7 litres in the sump, it was pouring rain, had the wipers changed, $66, they fell apart 400 meters from the service department, got soaked fixing in the middle of Dandenong, the car once again would not start, this after $600 service, had to drain oil and replace with a new filter, took out the spark plugs and changed them, took apart the throttle body and cleaned and found it was sticking, once all this done, bingo the car started each time, poor service, the first service was fantastic, after that down hill, emailed them and told them we just bought a $50,000 car, it could have been from them, but alas, no way, they were great in giving you a loan car, but everything costs 4 to 5 times more than anywhere else, asked for a gear box service, $386 just for the oil, no filter or labour, come on, won't ever buy or recommend Kia ever again, just talked a friend out of buying the new 2017 Kia Rio, he bought a Renault Clio, 4.5 litres per 100 kms, our Rio was 6.9 to 7.9 per 100 kms, very uneconomical, a bit better now since I fixed everything myself, also paid them $89 for synthetic oil, don't believe they put it in as the car ran like crap, then I changed it for a better oil and it was great, well thats my last report on Kia, glad that we got a new car.Similar opinion? Solid, Relieable, Quiet
Compared to all other cars in its class, it is way outsanding. Everything works the way it should, and everything is in the right place. Built quality is perfect, and running costs way beyond understanding (pretty good!).
The most amazing thing of this car is the quietness. When you stop at the red lights you and your passengers wonder if there is really a petrol engine in the car.
The 1.4 doesn't sound impressive, but it is very willing. The power is well distributed across the range, and it works so well from the lowers to the highest...Read more
revs all the time. It is not punchy, but when in need you can just cut a few gears down, and press on. It delivers. Brakes were better than I ever expected. Fuel consumption ridiculously good. Legroom plentiful. Everything seem to be in the right place in the cabin. The car looks pretty good as well. Highly recommended. The only thing I didn't quite like is that on the 3 door model, rear visibility is quite a challenge.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great budget new car
I love my little Rio, I would give it 5 stars on the looks alone. Has excellent power and high end speed for a little 4 cylinder the interior looks great and the added Bluetooth iPod connection are great. The downsides are as soon as you turn the a/c or headlights on it seems to suck up all the power from the performance of the car and it also chews through petrol when these are on otherwise it's normally very economical. luckily where I live it's cold most of the year and I do not drive much at night. Also has some bad blind spots and the dash is rather long so vision can sometimes be an issue but all in all great little new car for the price

Great Small Car
Bought new in April 2016 to replace my ageing, but faithful '06 Hyundai Getz.
My first choice for a new car was a Hyundai Accent, but the local dealer was rude & unwilling to sell me a car.
I went in for a test-drive at my local KIA dealer (GT Western Kia Kingswood), close to closing time on a Sat afternoon.
My first impression of the Rio was that it is a good looking hatch (better than the Accent), the interior, although it looked a little dated, was well laid-out.
I test drove the 1.4l 5spd -Manual 5dr (I wanted a 3-dr, but none were in s...Read more

Great little fun car
Just got a 2013 Kia Rio auto and so far so good. It's a fun car to drive, the little 1.4L delivers surprisingly good power and the sports automatic gives it a racy feel. The boot is a bit small but usable and the back seats are a bit crammed if you are tall. It eats through the fuel faster than I was expecting as the fuel consumption rate is suppose to be 6L/100km. In terms of driver comfort the Rio is pretty good with a nice range of seat and steering column adjustments. It also has plenty of modern tech features such as auto headlights, Bluetooth, USB and Aux inputs, hill-start hold and a stylish interior. I have only had the Rio for a month so I can't comment on reliability but from what I've heard they are a pretty good car.

2014 1.4L manual
Done less than 12,000km and car started to get a bit rough at idle and slight noise under bonnet which I have been told by everyone is an injector noise and normal. WTH how can it be normal for my perfectly quiet car before this where if I stopped at a red traffic light you would think the car had stalled as it was so silent. Went to John Hughes today and as the problem is intermittently they heard nothing. We were helped by [name removed] in service and he was great but again he thinks the sound is normal. HOW CAN IT BE NORMAL IF IT'S ONLY R...Read more
ECENTLY DEVELOPED? He connected to scan tool and performed an update but that was for a knock which hasn't developed yet. Interestingly he did say the 1 8l model has the same fault and they can fix that! Again WTH. Now I'm left with a petrol car that sounds like a diesel.Similar opinion? Reliable. Uses more petrol than it should
Purchased a clean example.
Did what it was purchased to do.
Everything works well.
The factory speakers sound so much better with an upgraded stereo system.
Easy to drive and maneuvre.
Unfortunately it uses ore petrol than it should. I was getting ~10L/100km for a 1.6L hatchback. On researching the issue, this seems to be the norm.

Beware
Since new the Rio has had an intermittent problem with missfirering. It has been back to the dealer 5 times and they have not been able to isolate a part that is causing the problem. Finally they have agreed to replace parts but they are on back order so they have had the car a week and it will be 2-3 more weeks without a car, very unhappy!!

Passenger airbag faulty/speedometer stopped working.
This is an average small car for driving/comfort etc. However at about 100,000 km's the airbag warning light came on and would not turn off. Took it to Kia dealership, they said the passenger airbag was faulty, my problem-not theirs. Cost to me to repair $1200. Be very wary of lack of dealer assistance after warranty expires. In addition at 120,000 km's the speedometer stopped working. This is still a work in progress with the auto electrician. A search of the internet shows these are a common problem with the JB Kia Rio's. Kia would have been well aware of these problems but their silence is revealing. Remember, cheap comes with problems.

Poor quality brakes
My 1.4L auto hasn't been driven hard but the brakes are worn at 30,000 kilometers - needs new rotors and pads, $1700 to replace them, no aftermarket rotors made yet. I took the car into the dealer about the harsh grinding noise coming from the brake within the first week. I was told that's normal no problems. I have spoken to KIA and they tell me that's what they expect to get from the brakes and will not replace them under warranty. After telling them that my Hyundai has 70,000 kilometers on it and have not touched the brakes at all, their exp...Read more
lanation was it's a different class of car. I have owned several different brands of cars, not one of the others has needed brakes before 65,000 kilometers. I have had other issues with the car that have been fixed by KIA - seat trims replaced front drivers side, left rear passenger side, paint imperfection drivers rear 1/4 panel and the gaps between left hand front guard bonnet and passenger door. As far as KIA is concerned brakes are a part that wears out and is not covered by it's warranty. Might be cheap to buy but not to maintain. Do yourself a favour - go buy something else.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

KIA RIO 2013
Brilliant little car, so comfortable, feels bigger than it is and plenty of head room for even taller people. My only hint would be change the original tyres to a more expensive one, like bridgestone pretenza for example to make it stick to the road and quieten the cabin noise to almost nothing!! brilliant car + the 5 year warranty, you wont go wrong!! They are not the KIA's of old, they have come a long way sine the early days to be something fantastic

Great car so far.
Purchased a base mose S one year and 16000 km ago. Would have liked to have Cruise Control but could not justify the extra cost of the S Premium as none were on special at the dealer; only paid $13500. Managed to pick up factory Kia Cruise Control from Ebay for under $100 and fitted it myself in under 30 minutes.
The KIA Rio is much better finished inside than most of its competition. The car is very well put together and has a quality feel about it, The car drives and handles very well, noise suppression is above average. The engine is smoot...Read more

a Cruise Control to; not as fun to drive. The clutch is light with a nice smooth gear lever throw so easy to live with during city driving. Very solid well built quality car that still looks good and not 'tinny' like most of its competition.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Good little car
This little car has pretty good performance considering the size. Noise wise, it is quite quiet. Handling is smooth.
There is plenty of leg room. The dashboard is a nice height.
The car itself is quite cheap to fill up, around $45 a full tank.
Would recommend as a good first car.

5 star safety rating my A**!
THIS IS A MUST READ TOO THE END! I loved driving my Kia Rio 2015 model! It's amazing to drive, I can boost up the seat to see over the dash board because I am quiet short, cheap to run as well!
I absolutely loved it!
Until I had an accident!
Going 70ks an hour & was hit twice my air bags didn't deploy!
I am so let down!
I believe it does NOT had the 5 star safety rating that Kia claims it has!
i would not go out and buy another one anytime soon, whip lash & other injuries are not worth it!

Used E10 Fuel and fuel economy changed dramatically
Just reached 9,000 KM had KIA Rio since May 27th 2015 drove to Gold Coast and Brisbane from Leongatha area and 1 week driving around traffic 2165 KM 146.37 Liters, 14.79 Km per liter or 6.76 Lt-rs per 100 KM, but going back I used E10 for 1,000 KM of a 1,864 Km trip back and fuel economy changed to 7.4 Lt-rs per 100 KM changed back reg unleaded and dropped to 6.5 Lt-rs per 100, so I will never use E10 again proof in the pudding.
43 Lt tank E10 cost 2 cents a liter cheaper saving 86 cents cost in extra fuel 7 litres more fuel, cost $8.20 based on $1.20 a liter.

using E10 a full tank 43 Ltr tank at 7.4 ltrs per 100 gets 574 KM a tank that is long distance, using Reg unleaded at 6.5 Ltrs per 100 KM = 661 kM per tank and that was traffic in Melbourne for 120 k... Read more

2003 model - still going strong today
Bought brand new in early 2004 (but is a Dec 2003 model). 93,000kms on the clock and still going strong. Never had anything major go wrong with it. Servicing is easy and quick according to mechanic. Parts are pretty reasonably priced. It still handles well, unless I have to have more than one passenger (which is not too often).
Still get just under 400kms to a tank of fuel for suburban driving, much more on the open road.
Hatchback capacity is brilliant. I have moved house twice since having this, and it fits so much inside! I love hatchbac...Read more

Great car with 7 years warranty and roadside assist!
I did my research thoroughly before buying my new 2015 kia Rio 3 Dr hatch. I looked at the other cars the same price but there was nothing that matched the build quality. Also a lot of the other new cars are only 3 cylinders which I wasn't excited about. The hatch is very large for a small car, the seats strong and comfortable and can fit my 6" 3 tall husband with plenty of leg room and his head doesn't touch the roof!. features are Bluetooth, media player, steering wheel controls, seat height control, adjustable steering column, keyless entry ...Read more
and power windows. I ordered mine in black for an extra $525 and the paint job is superb with its metallic paint with lovely blue little flakes through it which you can see in bright sunlight. The boot is large for a hatch. Drives well and the semi auto gearbox has manual mode. Very good on fuel. I had my windows tinted with darkest legal tint and it looks gorgeous with the black paint. Services are capped only needing one logbook service a year, first one in 3 months or 3000km is free. Every year you have a service entitles you to 1 year free roadside assist. As far as I'm concerned, if a manufacturer can give you 7 years unlimited kms warranty, they must believe in the quality of the car. This was a big factor for me as well as style and performance. Hence I bought the car. Only downside is I need to get rear parking camera, which I will buy on eBay in the form of a rear view mirror sensor, I'm trying to get used to forward parking as you can't see the bonnet. The front and rear parking sensors are an optional extra for around $800 for both. I will fix that by getting cheaper on eBay, your choice though. Overall, highly recommended.Similar opinion? What a great car
I bought my base model S 3 door Rio late last year as a second car 'run about'. For a budget car I am amazed at the quality finish and drivability. The 1.4 engine loves to rev with no harshness experienced. Gear changes in the 6 speed manual gear box are precise. The 5 and 6 gears are genuine overdrive gears. The car handles very well is fun to drive. Love the seven year warranty. When I replace the car in 3 years the car will be sold with 4 years of new vehicle warranty remaining.
Only negative was the lack of Cruise Control. I asked KIA abo...Read more
