2007 model needed improvements, but you can't beat eVent for breathable gear
I have the 2007 model. I haven't seen the 2012 model - this is just a review of the Macpac eVent material.
I'd be keen for owners of the 2012+ models to review this – specifically, have Macpac improved the head area / opening? Doesn't look like it - from what I've seen, it's the same design! That is, the old model doesn't open forward (so you can talk to other people easier, cook food at the opening, etc) and the top is too small (it won't fit in a full pack and boots, and still have room for a bigger guy sit up and getting changed – cle...Read more
ar, Macpac plan for you to leave wet stuff outside – fair enough…). Anyway, breathable eVent material means less wind proofing; and, lightweight means less hard wearing. Also, fits 2 only in an emergency, but don't expect to get to sleep with more than 1 person in this - it's not a tent. Breathability of eVent material is a must for people who want a bivy (very small tent) together with the cold protection of a down sleeping bag. That is, down can't handle getting wet as well as synthetics, so this makes it twice as important to minimise dampness from outside-in (rain & wet ground) and inside-out (body heat => sweet => cold => hypothermia risk from the sleeping bag being too warm... an embarrassing way to go / reason to get rescued...). Great weather protection and breathable. More breathable & light weight => less windproof & hard wearing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
