Thinking of buying a secondhand Mazda. Anyone out there who will recommend one for the right reasons?

The Mazda 3 is a great small car....in my case it became apparent that a lot of the manufacturing 'focus' seems to be on automatics, manuals seem (in my case) less than what I would call 'zoomzoom'. I enjoy driving the car, it has great brakes, steering and roadholding, excellent fuel economy, is fairly roomy and comfortable. The reliability and resale are excellent. All round I'm happy with my purchase.

Ive owned 2 mazda's - both sp20's. They are a fantastic car. Fuel economy is a little high -but once u drive one you will be happy to pay the little extra for the ride and response. The cars did require premium unleaded -which can get a little expensive when it sits on $1.50 ish a lt. If you are buying one that has done over 1000ks - look not only at the service log book -but also at the receipts that are provided when a car is serviced -that will give you a better indication of what was actually done, not just what the "stamp" says was done (Ive been caught out with a timing belt this way -it wasnt done but the book was stamped as "serviced". I would look at a desiel one next time -as better fuel economy and heaps more Nm(torq) than the normal mazda...Hope this helps. : )

After clocking 130,000k's and having the cabin air filter changed the air con works really well, changed gearbox oil for premium synthetic and flushed and replaced clutch and brake fluid the gears are better than when new, gears select very smoothly and brakes are back to new feel and power. Car is going great.
