A nice quiet workhorse for your suburban block
Gives a nice cut even with the mulcher. Starts first pull. It's easy to operate and manoeuvre. I bought it to replace my masport president 1000 which was just under 10 years old with weekly use, this seems to be just as good and now I have two catchers and a spare mulch attachment.

other reviews are sponsored crap
Bought this from bunnings (Lismore) about 4 years ago. Still running great, had to replace spark plug...thats about it. BEWARE OF SPONSORED BAD REVIEWS - they are just crap. This mower has performed well and had no major problems. If you have yearly services for oil change etc you will have no issues. works great!!!

What a piece of junk
Now masport used to make good gear. Stuff that lasted. But it seems masport have been overtaken by bean counters hell bent on saving every cent at the expense of the consumer. I purchased one of these less than 2 years ago. It has been started no more than 40 times to do approx 120 square meters of lawn. It has always been garaged.
Despite this and the not so great price tag, the pull starter cord broke. It just frayed and failed. I was able to fix this. But, the pull starter cord jumped out of the spindle causing it to lock. So the mower wo...Read more
n't start. It turns out the pull start is plastic, sealed and riveted to the mower, so it can't be serviced. So the mower is a throw away or I spend $150 + on parts and labour to repair it. That means buying a new unit from Ma sport and paying someone to put it back together. Why? Because someone in masport thought it a good idea to provide cheap plastic non serviceable components. So I am now up for a new mower as I simply refuse to buy anything else from a company that sells rubbish to consumers. Any company that thinks it's ok to sell junk just doesn't deserve another cent.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Masport Wheels Fall Off
6 months after I purchased my Masport 470 one of the wheels broke and had to be replaced (under warranty) since then 2 more of the wheels have broken - what a crappy mower. Generally mows ok but not get starting often I have to adjust the throttle to get it going. Could not recommend.

Very disappointed!
The mower may have 4 blades but i seem to have to go where I've already mowed as it misses bits
It is fairly easy to maneuver..this may be the only thing going for it.
It takes 4 pulls to start it initially and it has quite a long pull cord which makes it difficult....but the thing that really bothers me is when I'm mowing close to garden edges I expect it to suck up the dry leaves and debris like my old Victa did this one doesn't! It seems to blow debris out around the front of it. The air filter clogs up fast slowing the mower down and then it uses fuel like you wouldn't believe! Masport...never again!!....And I'm NOT happy with the mower dealer that sold it to me saying how good it was. I think I'll go pay them a visit! Not happy!

Wish I hadn't of bought it
Pretty much from the start the catcher kept falling off and it's held on with an occupied strap. The throttle speed has never really run right.
I had a Honda for 20 years before this and i thought I was buying better than what it actually is. Having a B&S motor. Avoid :(

650exi No Manufacturing Warranty
High Adjust bar on front wheel came loose - Very disappointed in Masport, got what i thought was a high end mower from a reputable company only to find that when the adjust bar came loose after about 6 uses (2hours all up) Bunnings claimed that there warranty only covers the engine and they offered no manufacture warranty.......

It's OK
The mower with its four blades cuts the grass beautifully. It's larger 4 wheels helps to manoeuvre the mower. And adding the mulching block works great. However, its catcher design is awful and it requires two hands to remove and attach the catcher. My previous Victa lawn mower built in 1974, yes it lasted over 40 years. It had a simple trigger release with the handle and could be released attached with one hand. Another issue I have with the Masport it was impossible to start if you follow the user guide. I have found a sure way to start e...Read more
very time. Push the primer 3 times then slowly pull the starter cord 3 times without starting. Now pull slowly until resistance is felt then pull with force to start. Also a word of advice never use unleaded E10 fuel in anything.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Complete junk
If you want a mower which has a rubbish catcher which keeps falling off and the handle even though replaced does the same, a mower which is hard to start and blows lots of smoke then this is the one for you. If you want stress in your life, go ahead and buy this rubbish

Poor components
The first time I started my Masport 470, it lasted for about 10 minutes mowing before the throttle failed.
I was un able to control the mower at all. Eventually I had to stop it by sliding the throttle closed on the body of the mower. The problem is a poorly made (cheap) plastic throttle lever on the mower handle. the plastic broke on the first use ... not good enough from a $400+ mower. I'm returning it to Bunnings for a refund. I'll spend a bit more on the next mower and get quality... but it won't be a Masport.

Good value for the money
Only used 4 times on my thick buffalo lawn and when I first started it I thought, this motor is not going to be powerful enough as has a very low rev at max choke, however it has really surprised me so far. Gets through the lawn just fine and picks up everything. I tried the mulcher as well as I have never used one before and this also works great. So far it has started first time every time and there doesn't seem to be anything coming loose as per many reviews I have read. I only have about 150sqm of nice lawn so if I had a bigger yard than this I would suggest a more powerful unit would be better a better option.
I will report back in another 6 months to see if it continues to be this reliable but at this stage I'm quite happy.

Terrible design Flaws
One of the first things you see when you look at the box for the Masport 470 is "Powered by Briggs and Stratton engine". I thought that was good enough, my old Victa had a Briggs and Stratton engine and it lasted for ages and did the job well.
Well... let me give you an analogy, putting a well-made engine onto a knocked together go-kart does not mean you go faster, it just means your go-kart falls apart faster... the same with this atrocious lawn-mower.
If you JUST want to mow a nice square patch of lawn, with no overhanging shrubs - th...Read more
is is the lawnmower for you If you JUST want to mow for 15-20 min before checking if anything needs looking after on the machine - this is the lawnmower for you. On the other hand if you only want the lawnmower for these things then you might as well get a comparable priced electric one. THIS lawnmower has an oil cap that is secured with a single half-twist and is optimally positioned to be undone and pulled off by any overhanging branches. Luckily you can tell when this happens because oil sprays everywhere and causes a huge noxious white smoke cloud!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Nothing like the Masports of old, this Morrison 470 is crap.
I had a Real Masport, can't remember the model, it was a great mower, my Son had bought a cheapy Victa that fell apart and because mine was getting on, I thought I would treat myself to a new one and give the old Masport to him, when I went to Bunnings all they had was these " Morrison" Masport, what a piece of crap, rattles and shakes, can't get it to idle, waste of money

Not good
Rattles, smokes, bits have fallen off. The catcher picked up some nuts and cracked open. I had prior Masport for over 25 years and it was great. This I suspect is not of the same factory. Some of the other opinions - hmmm maybe its 50/50. Half are unlucky and half are lucky. It shouldn't be a game of chance when buying mowers
Looking at the review below, I will have to travel to the Hunter Valley by the looks to find one that works.

Don't buy one.
I made a mistake buying this mower. I've had it for a summer and disappointed. It barely starts. Blowers smoke when you do finally get it to run. Does a terrible job cutting. It took me 15 to 20 pulls the other day to get it going. I never had trouble like this with other mowers.

Good Mower
This is my second season with this mower.
It lives in my garden shed when it’s not mowing lawn so it looks brand new. I changed the oil after roughly 5 hours like the manual said and it's been running great. It starts first time almost every time, just make sure you press the priming button 3 times before the first start up as per the manual. I turn off the mower when I empty the catcher so I haven't had the problem of the blades hitting the catcher that another reviewer has had, after it's warmed up I have never had it not start on the fir...Read more
st pull, providing the throttle is in the right position ;). The catcher is very sturdy and fills right up to maximum before you start leaving a trail of grass behind you so I’m impressed with that but I'm yet to use the mulcher as I always have too many weeds :( I do have concerns that the plastic height adjustment system looks a bit flimsy and I'm not sure how long that will last for, also my throttle leaver broke when my stepdad used my mower but I managed to fix that by turning it upside down and moving it to the other side of the handle bars, luckily it looks like it was designed to fit a range of models but I'm not expecting that to last much longer so I need to come up with a plan to replace it. Until then I’m putting plenty of CRC on the throttle cable. Would I buy this mower again? I’m not sure, I think the mechanical side of things are solid on this mower but the plastic is a bit of a worry. If the throttle didn’t break so easy and the height adjustment locator looked sturdier then yes I would. It’s a 4 stars from me.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Still Love It
Had this for 12 months now (26 April 14) and still best mower I ever had. Still starts first time even on occasions I forgot to prime it first. Now have a bigger yard and this mower makes it easy. I keep the blades sharp and mostly use the mulch and the grass just keeps looking better and better.
Now Feb 2017 and mower still going strong. Nothing broken and still starting first time.

Still going strong
Just another update after its second summer & it is still going just as well - no problems, nothing has fell off or broken, no vibration, I am just as happy as when I used it the first time
It still starts on first pull & is just as economical as when new, although I am perplexed that as someone has said on here why the Briggs & Stratton engine has no oil drain plug & you need an oil extractor to change the oil!
5th Sept 2015
Now heading into its 3rd summer & naturally has not been used that much over winter but it is still going like a train, starts first pull & nothing has fell off - still very happy so will see how its performing after this coming summer!

what a piece of junk
Biggest piece of junk made, customer service rude, if you want a piece of junk that will cost you money then buy it! Reported problem to Bunnings where mowers was purchased, was advised they had a lot of complaints about the same issue, and had reffered customers to Masport service agent, who would Asses and repair, but given our mower had little use as we moved to a unit, our warranty period has expired so now left with a piece of junk, so was advised to take it to a Masport repair agent, but not wanting to spend money on a hunk of junk, will go purchase a new Stihl Lawn mower.....never had a problem with a Stihl Product....bought our Stihl whipper snipper at a garage sale 13 years ago...it was old then....perfect still..
