Wanting to buy my brother a compost bin for his birthday present. I am really confused which one to buy either the Maze 160L Roto Twin Tumbler or the Maze 245L Compartment Compost Tumbler? Advice please. Is the handle long lasting on the Maze 245, is there a replacement warranty on the handle? Will the bins become too heavy to tumble?

Hi Berni, Both items are good and the key is the both have the two sides so one side can be filled and then left to mature while the other side starts to fill. If there are a few people in the house and there will also be garden waste then the 160L capacity may not be enough. The 245L also have the handle and gear to make it easier to turn as well as bigger openings which makes it easier to fill and to empty the composter. I hope this helps but if not please feel free to email on at [email protected]. Ronen

generally most people say not to compost these this as they may attract unwanted animals however i can tell you that i put them all in as long as they are in smaller pieces. For example i will not put in a steak unless chopped up.

Hi, yes shredded paper and cardboard are good to add to balance the mixture. Often with a lot of kitchen and green garden waste the mix need balancing with dry brown material.

I find it hard to empty once composting is done as the sliding door is so small. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I placed a piece of fibrolite, or maybe you could use an old tarp on the ground underneath, removed both doors and turned the bin until the openings were on the bottom. I then rocked the bin half way forward and then half way backwards until no more compost would fall out. That got about 75% out and then it was get down and dirty by raking out the rest by hand. I do not put liquid in my bin but the compost is always dripping on the grass. The rain leaks in and inside condensation keeps my compost dripping wet. I take the compost, after about 4 weeks and only half cured, from the tumbler and put it in my good old reliable 200L black bin. I view this composter as a $240 white elephant. Should have bought another $50 200L black bin..
