can i use savlon on my dogs scratched open wound

Rainy

I'd ring your vet to find out. I used Savlon on my hand & I couldn't get it into the freezer fast enough. It felt like my whole hand was on fire. It was so awful. I tried getting the creme off my hand & it didn't help because the creams had already gone into my skin. Please, don't even take a chance. Call your vet. The only creme that was fantastic for me was Medi-Quattro, but it has been taken off the shelves. A lady had a terrible reaction to the ingredient BUFEXAMAC & ended up in hospital for 6 days. She was treated as if she was a "burns" patient. Doctors had a terrible time trying to help her because the reaction caused a huge rash all over her, even though she only used some on her neck. As for me, that product was like gold. I used it all the time & it was perfect. I thought products were strictly tested for safety, but I guess not. A huge lesson for me, as I don't usually test things on my skin first. With that poor lady, it wouldn't have mattered because the rash it caused just kept growing until it had covered her. I hope she's okay.

Can I use it on my dog's razor burn?

I would only use more natural products like coconut oil or paw paw cream on a dog, Savlon is a better choice if you have to use a topical cream.

I'm concerned that it says do not use for long periods of time, while this question is probably better suited for a pharmacist I just don't have the time, I was wondering if anyone knew a) why it can't be used for long periods of time and b) what happens when it is used for long periods of time?

I would think if Medicreme has to be used for a long time then obviously the condition is not healing and requires attention from a doctor rather than first aid. Only a qualified person such as a Chemist or Doctor should be asked about the effects of long term use, rather than an amateur on the internet.

I want to know what is considered a long period of time?

Mel

I feel the need to point out that I'm not using the cream it was just a curiosity thing, which I can't find any answers to. And as Nina Torkomian points out 'long period' isn't specific and therefore could mean anything...

Can you use it on dogs?

Not sure, I would ring the vet and ask if you can use it. Tell them it is like a Savlon antiseptic with a mild anaesthetic in it. Good luck!

I have not used it on a dog, just people where it works well. I cannot see why it would not work equally as well on dogs but a Vet or Chemist would more qualified to give you an accurate answer.

Hi Amyl. I would think Medi Quattro would be perfect for a rash

Ruby35

Yes you can but Sudocrem or a barrier cream would be better on chafing.

I have just finished a course of Efudix cream on my face and chest area which is now highly inflamed, itchy and very tight and sore. Would Medi Quattro Cream be suitable to use on this area?

I would check with a pharmacist but I think it would be helpful

can you use medi quattro first aid cream on babies?

Ruby35
Ruby35 ·

Hi. Yes, it is an antiseptic cream so you would use it as first aid treatment on sores and infections. But you wouldn't use it on nappy rash, eczema or any other skin condition. If you have concerns, visit your pharmacist or doctor.

I think Me I Quattro is really good. It should be in every First Aid Kit and everyone's medicine cupboard. Can you use it on scratches? My cat scratches me sometimes. I also scratch myself alot in the summer. Calamine Lotion doesn't do much to make it better. I need something that will kill germs and numb the area so it won't hurt or itch.

Hi Jenny.
Yes you can definitely use it on scratches - big and small! It is ideal for disinfecting the area and numbing the area. It will work much better than calamine lotion for you. You can also buy generic brands, which should work the same.

Being born in the UK, I know what Germolene looks and smells like and it's not like that.

Can this be used when pregnant?

IreneF
IreneF ·

There's nothing on the packaging that says you can't use it when pregnant. It's only an antiseptic cream for cuts, abrasions, stings and burns etc., so I can't see it doing any harm. However, if in doubt, I'd suggest you check with your doctor or pharmacist.
