Yes, Miele has problem with lettering
Miele seems to have a problem with markings/lettering:
I also owned another cooktop (gas, stainless, 36") and the markings disappeared under a normal cleaning conditions (no abrasives) in less than 6 months.
Even their logo/brand name was gone.
Stupid Miele or maybe smart - perhaps they decided it was too embarrassing to admit they made such a lemon and so made a vanishing logo.

Poorly Designed
As I do a lot of cooking I purchased both the CS 1212 and the CS 1221 and have them installed beside each other. My main issue is with the setting indicators around the knobs and the cooking zone symbols. All of these have worn away. I know which knob to use to turn on the front or back element, how far to turn it around for different heat settings and whether there is a booster option available, but visitors have no clue, and if we were to sell the house the new owners wouldn't either. I asked for a service person to come out and replace these...Read more
- it is merely a matter of applying new printed lettering but I was told that isn't possible and the only way to rectify the issue is to purchase an entire new ceramic top which was approximately $1,000. They implied that it was my fault because I must have used the wrong cleaning products on the surface. I had read the manual prior to use and knew not to use any harsh chemicals and had only used warm soapy water. However, a cooktop gets some serious wear and tear in our house as I do a lot of cooking, and to design a product which isn't robust enough to cope with the purpose for which it is to be used seems very poor to me. I would definitely not recommend this product as once the markings have worn off - and they will, no matter how careful you are - the product becomes very difficult for anyone without prior knowledge of what used to be written on it to use. This whole Immer Besser "Forever Better" is a load of unreliable marketing hype, Miele products are no better than any other products. It is very disappointing that no matter how much you pay for household appliances these days, no-one seems to be delivering consistently well-designed, reliable products.Similar opinion?
