Hi Gary, you will likely be faced with an expensive call out fee, only to be told that the cost to repair will exceed the cost of buying a new machine. (not necessarily a Miele because there are a lot cheaper models out there. Labour costs are prohibitive, and the cost of spare parts will make your eyes water. Check out the alternatives.

Hi, my Meile W828 washing machine stopped, I was able to open the door and drain the water (which smelt) but the machine still won't start. It has been a few years since it's last service. Would love some advise. Thank you.

Hi Sandy, thanks for your question. It sounds like there may well be a water pressure problem for the W828, if this issue continues to surface. If this is the case, and you are finding the need to replace the inlet valve a number of times, I would be checking the pressure at the tap. We recommend you book a service call for a Miele technician to extend the water intake time. Please book a service through here https://www.servicebooking.miele.com.au or contact us on 1300 464 353. Kind regards, Anna.

I usually throw them in on a short wash cycle 40 deg and let them spin. They should be able to handle that, and as bath mats it's probably the only fun in their lives.

Good Tip David, I am going to give our Bath Mats a roller-coaster fun ride of their lives, 40 deg wash and 1400rpm spin or better test their idea of fun at 600rpm first, just in case they disintegrate.

Just came on to this site as could not find the Max Load capacity of my Miele W821, it is so old that I have no recollection probably 20 years at least and still going strong, just replaced the Shocks/Dampers a few years ago. Miele is getting a bit overpriced at present and can be costly to repair. My friend just bought a Top End Siemens 9kg (German made Model) with 1600rpm spin and iDos automatic liquid dosing system for about 25% more than the repair quote for their 9 year old Miele. so it looks like Miele is not quite as good as they used to be. My previous washing machine was an AEG Bella SL, gave it away after many years as it only had a 400rpm Spin speed and Tumble drying things from it took Hours, Miele Washer at 1400rpm takes 15 to 20 minutes to dry in a similar Miele tumble dryer to my previous one. By the way the AEG machine is still running WELL according to its 3rd owner who also got it free and it must be about 45 years old. If you know the max load capacity of my Novotronic W821 Miele please let me know. Thanks

Can you purchase a replacement rubber for front loader W828

2 answers
David

Yes you can, but it will save you money if you persevere and contact Miele direct to buy the part, and ask them for some instructions on how to do it yourself. Using some of the online warehouses will double the cost of the part, and machine repairmen charge like wounded bulls. Offer a friend or relative a carton or two to do the job if you aren't good at that sort of thing.

In what year was the Miele Novotronic W 828 manufactured?

Philip J

Hi Allie. I do not know the manufacturing history of this model, but we would have bought ours about late 2001 or early 2002. It has been going strong ever since. We still use it for about (on average) a load per day, and it has been running off a generator for the last nearly 15 months, still without a hiccup.

Hi Elizabeth, we apologise that you are having difficulties with your machine. You will need to book a service call so a Miele technician can look at your machine as it's difficult to make an evaluation without seeing the machine. You can book a service enquiry using this form here - https://www.miele.com.au/domestic/service-enquiries-3077.htm or call us on 1300 464 353 to make your booking. Kind regards, Miele.

Hi Elizabeth, before you call a Miele technician to make a house call, try a) making sure the machine is dead level and can't be rocked, then b) set the dial to Finish, turn the machine off for a couple of minutes, then try resuming a normal wash cycle. Occasionally the machine will become unbalanced during the spin mode due to entanglement of the washing (towels are a favourite) but the machine will make repeated attempts to re-tumble the washing to disentangle. If it can't succeed, then it will "spit the dummy" and stop. If the above doesn't work, then you need a serviceman, which I'm not incidentally. I have learnt to be a bit more patient over the 13 years of ownership, and the machine will always sort itself out, sometimes with a little help disentangling the load.

Trying to remove front panel so I can then remove side panel to get at inlet hose assembly which has parted company with the plastic inlet housing. I can see (with aid of a torch) that it has come adrift, but not sure whether rubber hose assembly is damaged or not.
Have very carefully followed some telephone instructions from a friend who has now become unavailable, and am stuck at point of removing the control panel, which includes the circular settings knob. Any tips on how that is (or isn't) removed before unclipping panel?
Just can't afford another expensive call out fee and being retired now have a bit of time on my hands.
Cheers David

Hi .... simply replace Control,
Thank You

Philip J
Philip J

Hi. One could say the clothes that are in there are getting an extra good soak! Whilst the suggestion to replace the controller (if it is even available) could end up being the only solution, I would be trying something less drastic and less expensive. I would be trying to give the system a wake up call to try to force it off that setting. Try turning the power off and then back on at the switch on the front of the machine. If that doesn't do anything try turning it off at the PowerPoint, wait a while and then restart the machine. Try turning the power off then opening the door manually, remove the clothes, close it up and restart. If still no good, try draining the water out of it from the filter at the bottom and then restart. Find a manual online a see if that helps, or contact Miele and see if they can suggest anything. Good luck.

Hi..... it sounds like it could be the Drum Bearing, we had excellent use out of our machine, like anything, it has a use by date, repairs via Miele technicians are exspensive

Philip J
Philip J

Hi Trevor. I also think it sounds like a worn or dying bearing could be responsible, allowing the drum to move further than it is supposed to and hence enabling it to hit something close. Another thought is that something has come loose or a foreign object has lodged in a space where the drum wants to go. Our machine has never had any issues so I don't know the inside layout at all to be able to help. If you are mechanical and the machine is otherwise dead then there is little to lose in having a look. Remember to turn off and unplug before doing anything and check for voltage anywhere you might stick your hands or tools to be doubly sure. I do not know if there are capacitors in the machine that you would have to be mindful of (stored voltage). Best wishes.

My machine leaks, approximately 1 litre of water per wash from underneath, definitely not the filler nor overflow hose. Any ideas?

I have never had any problem with my machine, so have no experience to help with. Never have put a spanner on it. At a guess, look at condition of hoses and seals as rubber/rubber like materials may have perished and leak under pressure during use. Maybe sit it up on bricks or the likes so you can see under it during operation to help pinpoint the area of concern. Do it safely, though, don't want it falling on top of you whilst in operation as it bumps about!

I have s similar problem. After moving house, my machine leaked from underneath ( about 200 ml of water per wash). The removalist had one of the legs caught in his truck and he was shaking the machine and finally managed to dislodge the leg. Wondering if he damaged something underneath to cause the leak? Is it safe to use?

Sorry, can't find the instruction manual. I suspect the machine is recognising that it is not getting enough water (?) Check to see that the tap is turned on, if so check that the water is getting to the entry point of the machine, if so check if there is an inlet filter and clean it as needed. If this has not done the job then I suspect you may need to clean the filter at the bottom front of the machine. There is a bit of technique needed here, which I am not fully aware of so try to find the procedure online. I think one gets the little orange tool from the detergent tray sliding tray and uses it to pry the door open. I think you then unscrew the filter cartridge and clean it and the recess. I think water goes everywhere a bit here, so have plenty of old towels handy. When you are ready to reassemble I think you have to pour in two litres of water first (?) then refit the filter assembly. Give the machine a go and see if that has nailed the issue.

Good luck

Philip
