Washing Machines Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of washing machine would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.

Great machine but beware of price gouging by suppliers/repairers.
I bought a Miele W828 which with light use (2 people) performed faultlessly for 13yrs when it developed a leak. The charges by a local "technician" to attend to what I now know was a very simple job was extortionate. Six months later, another more complicated hose problem was resolved and repaired by me for a fraction of the cost, with Mieles assistance, but not before I paid double the retail cost of the part from an online warehouse supplier.
Moral: If you have the time, simple repair jobs can save hundreds of dollars, but persist in contacting Miele direct for spare parts and advice.

fantastic
For the lowest priced miele front loader at the time this is still a gem. I bought it 18 years ago and was a grand purchase for me at 21years old. Four children later it hasn't skipped a beat. Well worth buying quality white goods. I was told that you should get at least 20 years out of it. Very happy.

Miele appliances are the Best, any other product is a compromise
Miele appliances has served us well over the many years of raising a family of 3, I would Only recommend Miele products to family and friends, as we age the product does appear to be less affordable, having said that, purchasing a cheaper brand is definitely not financially viable long term. Miele is definitely the number one appliance

Faultless for 17 years
This machine was our choice when our first child was soon to be born as we were going to use cloth nappies. Although it was very expensive at the time we felt it was worth having a go at, and it has never let us down. We are still using it in our fifth house, generally doing one or two loads per day. It has not missed a beat and has proven it's worth. Would get another any day!

Cleans clothes, does not last!
Paid $1750 almost 16 years ago. Cleans clothes efficiently, but it has now failed 3 times. First repair for control circuit board: around $500 after 5 years. Second repair for inlet valve: around $400 after another 4 years. Last fault: motor module - almost $400. Did not go ahead with repair. I tried contacting Miele each time to see if they would do anything to help with repairs, despite no longer being under warranty. They sent back form letters/emails each time.

Fantastic for nearly 13 years
Noticed leak at back a couple of months ago, use was replaced for $200+ also had burning smell. Clothes now holed & burnt similar to smoke burn. Meile advise they have never heard of this! Apart from louder spin noise, Machine still works & cleans clothes well but reluctant to use again.

The Ultimate Washing Machine
It may sound like an exaggeration, but I've thought carefully about it, and this is definitely the best machine OF ANY TYPE that I've ever owned. It quite simply has never let me down in any way and has never been less than brilliant.
It's gentle on clothes, never tangles or tears them. It can be used to clean items that strictly speaking shouldn't be washed in a machine at all. The controls are still crisp and tactile and pleasant to use after all these years. The machine is built like an Abrams tank. The programs allow you to do everythin...Read more
g you while still remaining beautifully simple. The manual is truly excellent - it covers everything you need or want to know. Generally at this point in a rave review there would be a short list of little niggles, with the caveat that they don't really detract from the overall score enough to dock a star, but I've been gazing at the machine this morning trying to remember anything, anytime when it didn't live up to its reputation and justify its price, and I really and truly cannot think of a single fault. Thank you Miele - if one day this machine breaks down (somehow I can't believe it ever will) then I will go right out and buy the closest equivalent that's available then. If I don't die of old age first.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Will never buy another brand of washing machine.
I know this model has been discontinued but we purchased our machine in 2000 so I guess that is to be expected. It is still going like clockwork 16 years later and we have never had a problem. It actually sat in storage for 8 years but we had it serviced before we started to use it again and now with a family in tow it is used ever 2nd day. Got to love that sort of reliability.

Great Machine...
I've had the W828 for over 12 years now and it hasn't missed a beat. I originally bought it on the recommendation of a family member who owns one. It does an excellent job on its primary purpose which is to clean cloths and it does this with no negative side issues such as being rough on cloths, noise etc. I would have no hesitation in buying another miele if and when the time comes. This review also reflects the opinion of the family member who put me onto it in the first place.

Amazing build quality
I picked up this machine second hand faulty, replaced fuse & relay on the main circuit board and gave a thorough clean and it works like new! Miele really do build quality, I especially like the enamelled metal finish which keeps the machine looking new.
Wash cycles are numerous, I can even wash dry clean only items on the wool cycle. Much more control over the wash process than front loaders I've had in the past and quieter too. My old top loader was so hard on clothes, this miele is worlds apart. While the old top loader is technically ne...Read more
wer, it's rusting in places and built of thin steel unlike the miele which is as solid as a rock. I feel that if you respect these machines, (e.g. don't overload, actually DO read the manual, repair worn shocks) they will keep going and going. A common issue occurs when overloaded with worn shocks and unbalanced, the drum can strike the door glass which can cause the drum realay to short out the machine and fuse. If you're handy it can be a $15 fix. If you own one, be sure to check the drum shock absorber is still good, or if older than 10 years, replace now. Easy DIY for $70, parts on ebay.Similar opinion? Good Machine
Was also sold on the idea of getting 20yrs out of this washer. After 12yrs of reasonable use, it has stopped. After research, the dampers on this machine wear out & allow too much drum movement, which then frys the PCB. Replacement is $450 from Miele, but repairable by numerous overseas suppliers. Which is route I took. The refurbished PCB & dampers, posted from the UK, in less than 10 days, cost about $200, have fixed the problem & it`s now working well again !

ok thank you!
Hi Gary, you will likely be faced with an expensive call out fee, only to be told that the cost to repair will exceed the cost of buying a new machine. (not necessarily a Miele because there are a lot cheaper models out there. Labour costs are prohibitive, and the cost of spare parts will make your eyes water. Check out the alternatives.

Hi, my Meile W828 washing machine stopped, I was able to open the door and drain the water (which smelt) but the machine still won't start. It has been a few years since it's last service. Would love some advise. Thank you.

Hi Sandy, thanks for your question. It sounds like there may well be a water pressure problem for the W828, if this issue continues to surface. If this is the case, and you are finding the need to replace the inlet valve a number of times, I would be checking the pressure at the tap. We recommend you book a service call for a Miele technician to extend the water intake time. Please book a service through here https://www.servicebooking.miele.com.au or contact us on 1300 464 353. Kind regards, Anna.
