A solid and in many ways superior performer than its' competitors.
Design is sporty and smooth and is almost timeless, still able to fit in with the new designs quite comfortably. The hatch is well designed offering a large loading area with adequate elevation.
The wide track is a rare and welcome addition, offering better ride and handling than most competitors. The low profile is an attraction for younger buyers, but the older generation may find it a bit too low.
The width of the car makes it obvious that the standard 'small car bays' at the mall won't accomodate it. This can be a problem for people using...Read more

OK
Good troublefree motoring, but very gutless. very basic could probrably get more bells and whistles on Korean cars for less $.
2001 Auto model with Air and Power steeringNow have 88,000kms used for city commutingLow fuel consumptionTroublefree motoringInexpensive servicing and insuranceplenty of room in front for a tall male
very very basic (instrumentation, no electric windows)Very very gutless, lack of acceleration can be quite dangerous.Red colour has faded badly even with paint protection and always being garaged at home/office.

Has been a very reliable car, with a very smooth and quiet engine. On country trips, it barely moves when a big truck passes the other way as it is so aerodynamic.I have had very good service from the Mitsubishi dealer in Adelaide.
Nice wedge shape, very aerodynamic, good fuel consumption, nice weight to gearchange, very good heating & cooling, handy hatchback, supportive seats.
Rather crunchy reverse gear selection, harsh ride with light load.

Its a very nice small car. I highly recommend this car anyone. It's very basic, not too many electronics and makes driving very enjoable. Big thumbs up.
Very small car to buzz around the city especially parking. Very relliable, I had it for abour 2 years which I bought as a second owner and had no problems at all. It's very economical especially with petrol prices now.
The only thing I disliked was the power, this one was automatic and was too slow especially when you wanted to overtake. The stereo was very average, it needs replacing if you appreciate good sound.

I found this to be a great small car and better than its Colt replacement. Still holds it own in terms of styling and drivability, and proved to be extremely reliable in the time that we owned it.
This car changed the game in terms of small cars back in the mid 90s with it's attractive stying and consistently winning a number of small car of the year awards. Strong 1.5 engine teamed with the smooth shifting 5 speed manual makes a better combination than the auto which is a bit breathless. Power steering is a must and makes it effortless to dr...Read more

I purchased the 1999 manual version secondhand as my first car and honestly, couldn't be happier. Two years later it has racked up 130 000kms total and is running as well as ever. Thankfully it has power steering and air con which are essential these days.
It is a little bit noisy, but considering it is so low to the ground, and after all is a small car this is to be expected. The fact that it is low to the ground can be a bit of a problem for short drivers (like me!) as you can't see much of the bonnet when driving.
I have the dark blue me...Read more

Fantastic car for value, economy, reliability and sporty handling. Looks good being low and excellent driver position/ergonomics(sold my more powerful/better equiped Barina SRI and was glad to return to more fun to drive and cheaper to run Mirage!)It was our 3rd Mirage and they were all fault free- except paint fade on red one
most reliable and economical car I've ever owned. (that's 45 years of cars & about 60 cars)e.g.$130.00 service per 6000kms and 700kms per tank on highway.cruising..well made and tough for all my offroad and snow driving.....Read more

I'm not unhappy I bought it but if I could choose again I probably go for the Civic hatch instead if only for more power and less road noise. But for cheap and trouble free motoring driving 30,000 kms / year, the Mirage had been excellent. Even my red paint is holding up well but I've given it the Turtle Wax superwax treatment twice a year and will continue. Wax on, wax off.
Like the others have said, very reliable. I've had it for 2 years (2001 model, manual box, purchased early 2007), drive it every day and it has never let me down once. ...Read more

Mirage is a great car. IMO it's one of the best designed cars in terms of engine reliability, economy and style. I could totally understand why one of the viewers here changed his/her Mirage with yet another Mirage.
Our Mirage 2000 never lets us down (knock wood!). It starts every time, even during Canberra's coldest mornings. Bought it for my wife last April 2009. At 190,000 km, it still feels and drives like new. We fill it up at average of AUS$45 for 2 weeks(!).
* Road noise--the one thing I'd like to have it reduced by changing tires and insulating.* 2 door

A great little car to drive and own. Easy to service and very reliable. I have owned a vast range of cars and find this to be a real pleasure to drive and own. Especially when taking into account its purchase price. Do definately recommend to anyone looking for a small car

Wonderful little car, highly recommended for first time drivers, as it offers everything from safety to ease of use and huge capacity. I don't understand why Mitsubishi changed back to the colt!
Everything! Great looks, wonderful drive, excellent space for such a little car, brilliant fuel economy and comfortable for people in the back seat. I had an accident in this car and if it wasn't for the safety features, I was advised that I would have gone straight through the windscreen! This little car saved my life :)
Nothing - I loved my mirage, and miss it every day

2002 mirage 1.5 manual. What are the timing belt service intervals please
1 answer
I do mine every 100,000 km - also change all the other belts and check water pump for leaks while doing the timing belt. replacing a leaky pump works out cheaper if done during the timing belt replacement.

I have a manual Mirage 2003 As the engine is fairly basic I'd like to do basic maintenance; oil change, oil filter replacement, brakes etc myself. Where is the best place to find D.I.Y. information?
Any ideas would be great, thanks!
