i have the reverse problem "auto choke" stopped working. i read there is no auto choke, and is controlled by a "stepper" motor. this is activated on and off by the heat sensor. (of which it appears are 2) i think the stepper motor is up under the inlet intake. on my older pajero i just wound in the air mixture screw up the top, but it dosn't fix the main problem. hopefully some knowledgeable mechanic replies for both of us, good luck

It's a sealed electronic fast idle solenoid attached by 6 bolts to manifold which can clog up in the opening with carbon residue. You can try and clean it out with a carburettor cleaning agent or get a 2nd hand or new one for about $180 - $200.

Hi everyone I've just bought a 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed and I got it detailed
The detailer accidentally run it out of fuel
My bad really I should have topped it up
Put 20 litres of premium in it
But it won't start
I've taken your mum out check that and that's all working fine but the motor that sounds like it isn't getting enough spark or something but was running perfect before hand
If anyone has any ideas that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance

i think the reason i havn't done my filter is it is part of the pump and in the tank. should be a plate under back seat behind driver that takes you to the tank with another plate to pump/filter.?good luck, leave sum feedback so i can do mine!

sorry don't know. my old pajero simply had moisture damage to the joiner clips(heading for the front lights). maybe swap inlet lead in thats working to the other coils and see if that works on the other coils? if not sumwhere the power is not getting there. in our old vehicles even the wires can be fried or worn out, or even joiner plugs need cleaning. i have heard of multiple coils going but before you buy new ones make sure they are getting power, good luck

Depends where you live. In South Australia if the petrol engine is a higher capacity than the diesel one you may need to get it approved. Other states may have different criteria though. See the SA rules to get an idea https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/driving-and-transport/vehicles/vehicle-standards-and-modifications/engine-and-exhaust-modifications

Please can anyone give me some advice. I have a 3.2lt diesel it's just had a service changed oil, filter, fuel pump and air filter done. It would normally start on the first crank but now it is not starting on the first crank it seems to be taking a bit longer. Would someone have any ideas what might be causing the problem. I really would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

I had a similar issue with my NT recently, my battery wasnt holding charge, checked battery and was very low on water. Topped battery up with distilled water, it now holds charge and fires up first time.

What do you mean ‘how to service this car’?

Malkie

well i did a service on mine when i bought it, new belts hoses plugs cam and crank seals rocker cover gaskets plugs synthetic oils, nulon E30 anti friction etc etc, i'm not a mechanic and it was a slow job, cost well over $1500 in parts. but i took photos of every step. i believe the timing belt is most important if it goes it can cause severe damage.
if you know the history you should get 100k out of a belt, i wasn't sure how accurate the info i got was.

You could get the Mitsubishi australia workshop to have a look at the vehicle or even a reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop or if the problem ends up being with the electrics - perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help.
I also found ultratune experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults.

Malkie

if its petrol there is no auto choke, its controlled by a "stepper motor" or the heat sensor, mine stopped working so i have to put my foot on the accelerator at start up for about a minute. so i'd say look at heat sensor first then stepper motor?

I have a 2005 GLS V6 Petrol (LWB) just over 200kms on clock.

Just yesterday, crawling in 1st - 2nd gear on the motorway a fast loud thumping noise came from the engine with the truck feeling like it needed to stop. As soon as I brought the truck to a stationary stop it immediately went away and I was able to continue driving. When driving in high gears, fast, the truck is fine.......just experienced this when idling and/or crawling.

Well - I would recommend against driving the vehicle - until you get the vehicle looked at by a Mitsubishi australia workshop or possiby a reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop may be able to help.
It doesn't seem like your fault is within the electrics but, also consider a reasonable auto electrician workshop.

Mine is 3.8 so I have no idea about 3.2L. butI reckon using thinner oil for these engines. hope that helps. as used a higher viscosity oil once before made it sound like a diesel.

There's many oil brands out there but, I've found valvoline and penzzoil you be the better ones but, feel free to consider placing synthetic oil in there

Better to get a auto electrician workshop or perhaps a air conditioning specialist to have a look at your vehicle.
Alternatively you could take the vehicle to a Mitsubishi australia workshop.
