Every time I try and put my MTD into gear for cutting, it stalls ? Can any one tell me why please . Revs are enough to operate the cutter. Thank you in advance :)

My 38inch mtd rideon mower has me stuffed? Iv had the deck taken off by myself and had wielding done to deck. After replacing the deck all seems fine but now wont start unless blades are engaged. Any help?
Key turns solenoid clicks but that's it, nothing will not start . battery is good all connections are clean MTD model .13AM475F670 .... sold in australia any ideas?
A solenoid replacement can often solve that. Sounds like the connection inside the solenoid is not making good contact anymore. I bought a universal solenoid on ebay for under ten dollars AUD.
How do yard machines go in reverse?

My riding mower will turn over but not start. The rear tires will not move when it's in the nutral position. It appears the mower is stuck in either forward or reverse. Will that stop it from starting and if so how do I get it back to a nutral position so tires will move in order to push it. Thank you in advance
Suggest you drop the deck and check all belts engage, it sounds like you have slipped a belt if it will not engage.Failing that call an agent.
hey. I have mtd 2002 model I think. hydrostatic drive keeps cutting out. 2 red wires seem to go to the key and burnt off. I just rejoin them but not to the key. would that really make a difference. .sometimes goes for anywhere from 3 secs to a few mins, any help?
I have a MTD Yard Machine Model M675F with a 38inch deck. My neighbor (who lives about 700meters away)says he can hear worn bearings while I'm cutting and that I should replace them. Recently the machine has started vibrating excessively (only while cutting blades are engaged). I have checked the blades and one DOES have a small amount of damage (the blade tips on one blade have broken off). Until now I have just made do and ignored the noise of the deck while cutting, but I am concerned the a) worn bearings or b) slightly damaged blades are going to do more damage. My question is can the worn bearings be the cause of excessive vibration or is it more likely the blades? Thank you
If your bearings are bad it allows the blades to increase the centrifugal unbalance at the the outer edge of the circle. In simple terms think of the sun as your bearing and the planets as the blade ...

I have a MTD 42 inch 8 speed mower. I bought it second hand and the cutter belt keep jumping off. Is the ment to be a belt tensioner on the cutter deck to keep the belt tight can anyone with this model tell me if I am right my model is 13AQ688G670
Have yet to have this issue but I know my turn is coming. If you check out on you tube you can see the manner in which belts are kept in place, its more a case of guides and retaining clips as opposed to a tension-er.

Never had that problem but the belts can wear out fast if you replace the weak standard blades with something solid like gator blades.. Man, can they cut grass..!!
My yard machine mower will not go forward or backwards when gear. Just hoping you might have some ideas why it worked fine when we turned it off half hour ago .
When I had one of these machines I found that if you rode it full speed to switch off the gears didn't work next time.. You need to jiggle the forward and reverse back and forth until it finally starts working..
if your mower is a manual transmission it is possible your differential came apart. See my review when this happened with my mower it came close to killing me!

You can replace a drive belt just take some photos of where the old belt travels and then remove the belt and put the new one on so it will match the travel of the old belt.Same answer as Billy.. You could try some belt grip spray.. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/CRC-Belt-Grip-400g/1444 even that will be a sod to apply.. If you go down that path be sure to soak all of it.. MTD manufactures most of the home owner type mowers in the US. If you have some neighbors that have riding mowers you might borrow a key and try it, just don't force it if it works you have another source for a key.
my mtd blades are stopping after a while while mowing. Any suggestions?
Hi Lisa.. this seems an odd problem.. They start off OK but stop after awhile.. The standard MTD blades are very flimsy and not much good for heavy work.. You can get heavy duty gator blades fit...
Read moreted but this isn't what your problem is. I'd be guessing the blade drive belt is worn or stretched and still works when it is cold and a little clingy. And when it warms up a bit it starts to slip. You can get some spray stuff for slippery belts but probably better to get a new belt if that is what the cause of the problem is. There is also a cable that pulls the belt tight when you move the handle. They usually don't cause a problem like this though.. They usually just snap.. Hope this helps.. Geoff.
Can u get catchers for yard machine ride ons?
There are some upon the market but it would depend upon your specific year and model. Personally I like a tow behind lawn sweeper as it allows a mower deck to function without causing clogging of the mower deck in heavy grass.

Belts will stretch over time and need replaced. There are also other things that can limit the life span of belts such as oil upon them direct exposure to sun light and overheating due to overloading ...
Read morethe machine. If the belt looks good, no fraying or cracking you might want to see if the tensioner is operating as it applies pressure to the belt by a spring. Another cause can be a bearing in a pulley may be bad allowing slack to happen as well. A belt that has or is slipping should be replaced but for longevity all possibilities should be looked at first.These belts usually last a long time.. Not like the blade belt that can wear out fairly quickly. There is no tension adjuster on the drive belt. Just a spring that pulls on the pulley assembly. ...
Read more If the belt looks OK it may be the sliding speed pulley that is not working properly. Replacing this belt is no fun. There are some good YouTube instructionals. The mowers vary a bit but are generally the same.. I replaced both the main and diff belts when mine broke. The pulley was OK. But after that the mower would never run at full speed again. Motion would not start until the speed control was up to 50% and then 100% would give about half speed.. I did a lot of research but never came up with an answer. In the end I sold the mower to a guy that didn't care about speed and just wanted to tow a garden trailer around a small yard. I hope you have better luck than I did...Get an answer from our members and MTD representatives
