eats belts

published

Right from new this mower loves to throw the drive belt. Usually, when engaging the mower, but once engaged it will usually mow for short time until it loads up on something like some heavy grass and of it comes again. so far there is only 5 hrs on the mower and on its third belt at a $103.00 Aussie each. the first time this happened it did some damage to some pulleys so they were replaced at our cost as we told them it hit a rock so fair enough we felt responsible but since then it just flicks them off nearly all the time usually damaging the belt in the process. ill review this review once I get some idea on what's really going on. so far it looks like we've bought a $4500.00 lemon.

Purchased in April 2021 at Richlands mowers & chainsaws.

Great for 5 acre property

This mower runs like a dream. Have just done my first ten hours without a hiccup. Easy to drive and suits larger framed humans with it adjustable seat. A area that once took three hours to mow now takes half the time and the welded deck is far superior to the pressed metal on my old Murray. It has a nice tight turning circle and mows in reverse If you look at the specs it pretty much matches the john Deere yard tractor specs But a little cheaper. Well worth the purchase.

Very good mower, well built.

published

We picked this mower up on Friday, then took it to our undeveloped 2.5 acre block on Saturday. We were mowing through 20 to 20cm long grass without issue. The fabricated deck appears to be well built, and cleared the grass well. The engine, a 25hp Briggs and Stratton, had plenty of grunt and did not appear to struggle anywhere.

What we liked is the mower, except for a few shroud pieces, is all metal. It was also economical on fuel, the 2.5 acres only took approx 1/2 a tank.

I did not expect this quality from this manufacturer. I am hoping that long term ownership is just as rewarding. So far I would reccomend this mower.

Does this model have a catcher model?

hi Ray .i dont think they do make one for the three cutter deck, which has to be side discharge.they do for the smaller 2 cutter .that is a rear discharge. Those models are not in the spx welded deck class by a country mile. surely any main dealer could fit another brands side discharge catcher.I`ve had two before but`are cumbersome mongrel things.
the cut of the welded spx triple deck is so good that that you realy don`t need it if you plan your areas to cut .
if your realy particular, close down the side shute and connect a tow behind a catcher . cheers .

Ring Victa .as i have nothing to do with them, just like their product. If the dealer you asking cant suggest something, i`d go see another .

belts? the only belt that does come off is the cutter deck belt .are you cutting through lots of sticks etc as they fly up and can drop a belt of on any mower.
one big problem i have found is with the dealer that did the first assy of your mower .lining up every thing that whizzes around under there .lining up is necessary. go to another dealer . or contact victa. i had a good dealer at Hillcrest Brisbane.
one pulley on the fabricated deck needs to be set just right .have a look at it and confirm it is fitted securely with no play in the mounting bolt and never use cheap industrial belts, they are not up to revs above 1500.rpm .surely the dealer didnt use them, but is a common trait in the industry .
To make sure i dont flick a belt i always engage the cutter drive with the deck up .then lower it to the cutting height .never have i lost a belt in 4 years unless running into sticks . cheers . oh blow the deck of with a leaf blower after every cut.

SPX 25/48 (SPX2548)

Can anyone let me know the full specs for the spx 2548. I am looking to purchase as now a run out model and found great price but I can't get the full specs. It maybe too big for my needs and my small shed. I have 1.5acre block and hilly in sections and lots of trees any help would be greatly appreciated. ROB from Ballarat sent 8 May 2022

Hi Rob. you can get the spec on the victa site..What spec do you want ?the overall width with deflector down is about 1600 mm .The length is 1800 mm .sitting butt height is 900 mm . they are a tall unit . 1.5 acres is a small mow for them .i mow about 2.5 acres in a flash. trees no problem as they turn in about 400 mm with great steering. The fabricated deck is strong and to date i`ve had no damage by the odd tree root. i would say its the best machine i`ve ever owned 4years . the deck cuts dead flat not like the rest of the mowers i`ve had . Still running on the original cutter belt, blades and bearings.amazing . Like all mowers just dont hose them down use a air blower . Have fun they they drive and stop on a dime cheers

Thanks Jaktar ... what width would it be with deflector up. Shed door when opened is only 1560 wide. I have about 2500mm deep to play with re front to back in the shed so that will fit ok. I couldn't see the full specs for this model on Victa site only the newer models eg SPX 2348 2342 etc. I am doing a comparison to other brands eg engine type, transmission type, front axle, bearings used in wheels etc etc I just found a spec for a US model "2019 Snapper SPX Series 25/48 (2691453)" maybe very much the same as this Aust model but does say it has been redesigned. Maybe an overkill for 1.5acres but can't find a bad review about it a bit keen to go ahead.
