Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi VDSL/ADSL D7000v2

Will never buy another Netgear product again
Figured I would finally spend some decent money on a quality modem/router to upgrade a cheap ISP supplied unit, and boy oh boy this has been an absolute piece of garbage from day one! The dropouts are unreal, sometimes 10 times a week, sometimes 10 times a day, when this happens you cant log into the router either, you must manually power cycle it. Once power cycled it wont automatically connect back to the internet too, you have to log into the modem from a wired connection and hit apply to get it to connect to your ISP. Various devices wont c...
Read moreonnect to the wifi network unless you assigning them a static IP address, wifi broadcasting totally disappears on a week to week basis. This is the "V2" model so surely they made some massive improvements over the V1, Wrong! Those three massive antenna must give it great coverage, Wrong they are just for show! Ohh look it has a dedicated app to change settings, Wrong! Netgear have great support, (aka community forum), Wrong! Last week I got my ISP to supply me new std modem which I finally hooked up, and guess what? Flawless by comparison. I really wish after the first week I took this hunk of junk back for a full refund, but figured I would give it a chance. The only positive from this purchase was the endorphins I got from smashing it into 1,000 pieces with a hammer.

Absolute garbage.
Its rubbish with its horrific connection and currently for me it disconnects around 5-10 times a day with a restart required every time. Ontop the constantly disconnecting it also sometimes ENITRELY disconnects for upto hours at a time with restarts not at all helping. We have contacted our isp and nbn.co and its all pointed towards our pile of garbage of a router. Absolute scam of a product.

Lousy product for a premium price. Complete waste of money
Constant wireless connect issues. Today the d7000v2 has decided NOT to recognize the printer. Sick of this, but of course it's just out of warranty and if I want Netgear to help, I have to pay the even more money.

Not reliable for the cost $200+
How satisfied are you with the connectivity of the modem/router to your devices?
- Not at all, it doesn't connect, even when the device is next to it, and it will randomly stop broadcasting WIFI or the speed drops to almost nothing until it turns off. WIFI tech is not new, and should be a minimum reliable feature.
How often do you get dropouts that are fixed by resetting the modem / router (ie. the ISP is not at fault)?
- Always, never had a Network issue(dropout) it has always been this Router, a reset or two has TEMPORARILY fixed it.
How di...
Read morefficult is it to set up and manage this modem / router? - Set up was easy enough, easier if you call your ISP and they are familiar with it. it didn't require mush managing it after set up, sometimes a factory reset and re-setup, but mostly power cycling it first thing (preventative) and then as WIFI stops, which happens at random, so has to be done as it happens. Check online you can see yourself that this is a wide spread problem with this particular Netgear router, reviews and forums. I haven't looked at many other models to see if it is Netgear itself not developing reliable software for other products, but I have found reports of software security flaws(of varying severity) affecting many of its routers, but you do your own research to confirm and inform your decision.

Feels like a scam after buying it
In theory it’s a really cool device and initially it was, until my warranty ran out after only one year. You’re covered for hardware problems for 2 years as per consumer law in Australia but not for firmware. The router automatically updates it firmware which is good for security but with the new updates I got a massive drop in performance. I pay for 1000mbps internet, have fibre to my house and can’t get anything over 150 with the router and an Ethernet connection. I called up support and was told it would cost me more than $100 to get technic...
Read moreal support to maybe fix the issue. This drop in performance came pretty abruptly only a couple months after my 1 year warranty and technical support plan ran out. Seems like a total scam to me as it’s not a cheap router and it almost seems like you have to pay more money just to keep it working at a decent level. The wifi range was and is actually excellent but no point in having a good wifi signal if your internet speeds won’t even let you watch 1080p videos on YouTube.Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi.

An exceptional disappointment
The design, speed and proprietary software were satisfactory but there were serious reliability issues. I've tried a number of avenues in an attempt to ameliorate this issue which I closed resets, installing past firm ware and installing a custom software but it was to no avail. From the beginning it was spotty and later on most of my devices wouldn't even detect the modem. Purchased an competitors product and now I live with one less source of consternation.
Shame on you Netgear. I proceeded to demolish this modem out of a year's worth of pent up anger.

Great performance but ridiculously unreliable
The software/experience was adequate. It allows for a simplified setup. I was able to get it up and running with Optus FTTN quickly, and it was immediately heads and shoulders better than the SageCom modem provided by Optus. The WiFi range was easily double the range in my double brick wall house, and the speed tests at range were brilliant. But after a few weeks of use I have become more and more frustrated with the regular drop outs. There appears to be a couple of scenarios but generally it requires a power off, cool down, power up. It would...
Read more restore fine though. I purchased a low end commercial modem to try and diagnose the problem and used the D7000v2 as an access point for a while. It helped a bit with the reliability but not significantly. The modem I purchased hasn't needed a reset since setup which suggests the problems aren't nbn/provider related. My expectations for a product in this price range were that it would have some traps during setup, but one working should require minimal effort to maintain. I can't rely on it when I work from home so it has become a waste of money. Netgear has released a variety of firmware updates but they don't appear to acknowledge the reliability issues. As a side note, the error logging doesn't appear to persist so when it crashes, you can't reset it log in and determine if there was a network traffic issue. Not that there is any evidence suggesting that because the SageComm hasn't crashed with the devices connected. I hope Netgear persists with the firmware and resolves it but there are plenty of people on online forums looking for reliability fixes so I'd imagine they could be aware of the issue. Its no longer available in stores so i suspect they may have just called it a dud and moved on.Purchased in for $250.

NBN up to 100/40 plans will be good but faster plans NBN 250/25, 1000/50 will not be ok
I've been running this router with about 12 months on NBN FTTP with a 100/40 plan (with VLAN tagging) and have been quite happy with the results.
The initial setup was a breeze.
It delivers great local wifi on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz ranges, particularly on 5ghz with ~600+ Mbps from various rooms in the house with the D7000 centrally located (single story, 3 bedroom + study).
I recently upgraded my plan to to NBN up to 1000/50 plan (with VLAN tagging) and found that the internet speed tests capped out at 150/40.
After various network layout te...
Read morests (see image), I've been able to confirm that the device is not capable of completing the internet credentials/VLAN tagging requirements fast enough for plans faster than NBN 100/40 with a heavy suspicion on the CPU/RAM not being enough (this model doesn't show CPU/RAM usage). I'm still considering using this device as a Wireless Access point if that helps and using a different device as to deal with the internet credentials/VLAN tagging requirements.Purchased in .

2.4 Ghz constantly dropped out, requiring a hard reset.
It was fast when it worked, but was anything but reliable.
Have used this for 2 years and i would estimate the 2.4 Ghz stopped working over 200 times. 5G was fine but could not provide the needed coverage.

Netgear D7000v2 is a lemon do not buy
Updated the firmware to the latest version. The router must be powercycled multiple times a day because it just stops sending/receiving traffic. Do not waste your time with this product.
Questions & Answers
2.4Ghz Wifi drops out OR the router asks for the WIFI (2.4/5Ghz)password again, but keeps asking even with the right ones, until I power cycle it.
It's not my NBN connection(Network) I have troubleshooted it several times with Internode, who also know & have an online guide for this modem.
Firmware has manually been updated to the latest one from Netgear's website, even after each factory reset.
Has anyone found a fix or workaround for a similar problem with this or another Netgear router?
Thank you for your time reading.
Rex
I am using it with Internode NBN(FTTN), have had it just under a year. Internode have an online guide on how to set up this modem, but they don't sell it, but they know it well(each tie I have rang them.
Set up was easy enough, even after hard reset and manually installing the latest firmware downloaded from Netgear(1.0.0.74) because the Netgear dashboard won't find any updates itself(also worrying).
Daily ISSUE : 2.4Ghz WIFI disappearing(5G sometimes remains), and needs a power cycle, then works for a random length of time (not sure if overheating, has ventilation, not not a fan pointed at it)
Sometime the WIFI 2.4&5G stops and will require/ask me to (re)input the (strong)password again(after connecting before) and won't accept the correct/same password, until another power cycle.
Before the Wifi disappears/disconnects, it sometimes it slows to a crawl, so is not reliable and impacts working from home. Any suggestions on what has worked for you if you had the same issues? or just return it? and any advice on that front? Do I need to actually Troubleshoot with Netgear first? As they are hard to get a hold of.
Thank you all for for your time to help, in just reading this and for any replies I get.
Stay safe.
