We bought he car with 36k on the clock at about 3 years old, we too have had the issues of worn brake rotors, quick wearing brake pads along with a broken interior door handle and the chrome coming off another. The latest problem started after a minor rear end collision, the airbag light started flashing and we have since been told that it may be because of a faulty Clock Spring the steering wheel, obviously no one can say exactly why it became faulty and now we have to wear the cost of replacing it. We have been told by Nissan that the airbag ...Read more
may need replacing as well and the whole exercise could cost up to $1500. I am tired of hearing the excuse from Nissan implying that parts are expensive because it is a Spanish designed/built car, I have had to replace the clip for sun glasses storage in the roof and Nissan tried to charge me $95 for a small plastic clip no bigger than a 10 cent coin, I went to Holden and was able to buy the exact same part for only $22. ???? I did show the part to Nissan and the receipt and their excuse was that the prices are set by management. In all I do like the car, it tows the camper trailer and boat quite well, there is a large amount of storage in the rear cargo area and is comfortable to travel long distances in. I am sorry to say that parts are well and truly over priced and there is not a great range of aftermarket accessories available, a suspension upgrade is a necessity as the rear end does sag with the original factory set up, it has been a good car but I don't think I will be buying another like it. Excellent rear cargo capacity for its class. Expensive parts and parts that wear too quickly.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Loved Pathy Ti - 4.0 ltr V6 Petrol
I loved the Pathy from the start. It was the first 4WD I owned and was great to drive, brilliant family car. It never let us down on or off road and drove like a saloon car, great handling on and off road. A few times when the back end went out driving on gravel and mud it was very predictable to recover. It's not a rock crawler but a very good layman's 4WD.
Parts are very expensive, the only issues I had were door locks, crome coming off plastic door handles and a burst radiator (rocks do that). Fuel consumption was 10 to 12L/100km unti...Read more
l we moved into the hills and it went up to 17L/100km. On a drive with camping gear and kayaks in a trailer I got 10/100 easily on the flat. The dealer was an out and out charlatain!! The inetrior panels at the rear tended to pop out and one door seal never fitted right. However, mechnically it was bullet proof. I used to keep up with V8 utes going through the hils roads ;-) Sadly after 6 and a half year our affair came to an end when a suzuki swift ran into it at 60k's when it was stationary. The swft was more than totalled. The bumper on the pathy was crcked and scratched but the tow bar had twisted the chassis resulting in $18k and twenty weeks to replace the chassis with a new one. The insurance company gave us the money and left us with the car. It wasn't written off and was driviable but wasn't quite right. I wouldn't go near the dealer to get it serviced. for the 100,000 service they asked got $1000, I walked away they and wish I had sooner. Also, Nissan dealers are bad for wanting to replace the brake rotors at 40,000km. I was warned about this and challanged the mechanic. He said they were worn below the minimum thickness. I asked how thick the were, he didn't know and would have to check. He then came back and I asked him what the minimum thickness was, he didn't know and would have to check. I asked him how the hell he worked out they were below minimum thickness. He came back and they were fine. To be fair, rotors are not made of a high quality material from the manufacturers now to save money and weight. Sure footed on the road, comfort Poor interior material quality, poor dealer support,

Impressive
I purchased my Pathfinder new in January 2012 and have completed 27 500 Kms (August 2013). While I live and work in a capital city, I have completed a variety of on and off road driving, including pulling a camper trailer along the Gibb River Road to the Mitchell Falls in July 2013. It was during this trip that I became thoroughly impressed with my second Pathfinder. My Pathfinder handled the Gibb River Road and track into the Mitchell Falls superbly, proving to be a very capable off road vehicle in this very remote and challenging terrain ...Read more
of the north west of WA. The ground clearance and in and out angles were more than adequate. The ride and handling was great and the power and torque made traversing every situation easy. It cruised along the sealed and unsealed roads with ease and passenger comfort was very good. The Pathfinder has a very good engine cooling system with the temperature gauge never appearing to budge regardless of the external temperature and terrain. The engine has great power and torque and matched to the 6 speed manual when driven correctly can achieve very impressive fuel economy, 9.2- 9.7 litres/100 Kms on the open road cruising at 117 Kms/ hr and around town I regularly achieve 8.5 litres/100 Kms. It handles well for a vehicle of this size and I find it easy to drive in all driving conditions. Interior space is very good and the 7 seats very handy. At this stage I have had no problems at all with my Pathfinder. Still Impressive, July 2016, with almost 72000 kms on the speedo my Diesel Pathfinder still achieves the same fuel economy as above (8.5 litres/100 Kms urban and 9.2- 9.7 litres/100 Kms on the open road cruising at 117 Kms/ hr). At this stage I have had only one mechanical issue, the cruise control causing loss of power that was repaired on warranty. Exterior and interior still all like new. Most impressive is once again we drove our Pathfinder towing a camper trailer along the Gibb River Rd, Derby to Kununurra, diverting up the Kalumburu Rd to Mitchell Falls, then stopping off at the Bungle Bungles on the way back. Total trip was 7350 kilometres in 20 days. Average fuel consumption for the total trip pulling the camper trailer was 12.5 litres per 100 kms, which includes tough 4WD driving through to open road driving (110 kms/hr). The total payload was a little less than 2013 and the Pathie handled even better than last time especially across the extremely deep corrugations on the Kalumburu Rd. No dust inside, great ride and handling, plenty of power and torque, the CD even kept playing without jumping regardless of the terrain. After the trip a good clean and you would think it had never been off road, not a squeak or rattle to be heard anywhere. Fuel economy, power and torque, on and off road performance, engine cooling systemSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Parts are very expensive
We have a 2008 P/Finder $60,000.00 to buy new. (115,000 km./5yrs.) front inside door handles not working. To replace/fix $400.00.Timing chain $3,000.00(128,000/5yrs). My daughter has the same year. She had to replace the universials $3,500.00. A friend has a 2007 Navaro. Recently spent $6,000.00 on parts. Was quoted $6,000 for a tiiming chain fitted.
There is heaps of room for our big family
To replace parts it is to expensive

Great Car
I bought my manual ST new 3 years ago. It has been a great car, get awesome fuel economy 8.2L/100km in traffic, 6.8L/100km on highway. I tow a 2.2 tonne (6.2M) boat and get about 13L/100km. It tows the boat easily maintaining 80km/h up Mount Usley (near Wollongong). Seven seats also comes in handy.
Great power and fuel economy. Heaps of space.
Rear suspension upgrade is a good idea if towing over 2 tonnes.

Rust warning
After being re-ended my pathy was sent off for repairs to the rear bumper. When I picked it up, the panel beater pointed out that underneath the seals around the boot door, there was rust. He pulled off the seal and showed me. Upon further inspection we found even more rust around the rear window opening. I contacted the dealer I bought it from and apparently it is a problem they are aware of, but not really telling anyone about it. I was lucky to catch it before my warranty ran out, so it cost Nissan about $3000 to fix it. My pathy is a R51 20...Read more
10 ST model. Aside from that drama love my truck!! Been to Fraser Island, towed 17ft Caravan, trips to the snow and seats 4 young kids comfortably!! I love it - a bigger SUV without being a Patrol, but so capable on and off road. Love it! Only nit picky issue is sometimes the gearbox seems to take a while to engage when taking off.3 comments
Mitsubishi Pajero also has corrosion problem in 2010 models under top seal rear passenger doors. They are not telling customers either.
Thanks Rictar. We have a 2010 model Pajero, will check it out.
Even if it is out of warranty check with consumer affairs. The laws have changed some what.

Practical vehicle
Bought a 2007 st new as a work vehicle. Very practical car, does everything asked of it, not treated particularly well but has never let me down. Only now, in January 2013, with 282,000km on the clock am i looking to replace it. Still runs fine although fuel economy not as good as new.
Reliable, practical, was good looking, strong, nice to drive (for a 4wd), strong diesel
First set of tyres wore out quickly -wheels were poorly aligned fron new. Had expensive injector work at 150k and at 250k.

Awesome thus far
Had my 08 pathfinder now for 2 years after purchasing second hand @34000 kms, it now has 102000, I tow a duel axel 9x6 trailer almost everyday with no issue fully loaded with tools, it's still on its first clutch. I've done some easy to medium off roading with minimal dramas, so far very happy, I have had problems with the silver trim around the steering wheel and window buttons that peel like sunburnt skin, unfortunately out if warranty you get no resolution, 1000 + to repair from nissan was to steep so just left it, but other wise a really great vehicle, keep the services up, and she'll go and go
Great towing, roomy, practical, looks great
Bit thirsty when towing, peeling interior, can be smokey under load

So far so good
My brother just bought his 2005 Auto Turbo Diesel ST-L Pathfinder with 105,000kms on the clock. A family of 6 owned it for a few years before we bought it a few weeks ago. I checked it out before we bought it and couldnt find anything wrong with it. The previous owner said they had not had any problems at all. We drove it back from Melbourne to Gold Coast. It was averaging 10.5L on the dash. Lowest it got to was about 9.5L on the highway. Have to say I was surprised with the power/acceleration it had. Only issue was that the cruise control wasn...Read more
t working, but the car hadnt been driven for a month. After a few hours of highway driving we tried cruise again and it worked. It stayed on for about an hour then turned itself off. After another few hours we tried it again and it worked fine and stayed on the whole way home and hasnt played up since. Thats the only issue he has had with it so far and its been perfect since. Did a full service as soon as we got home so we know its mechanically reliable. Very worried about the radiator fluid leaking into the gearbox as it seems to be a common problem in USA and had a few cases here in Aus. After researching more, you can get a delete kit from Nissan (Small metal tube and some rubber stoppers) and put an aftermarked gearbox oil cooler in. Will cost about $300 but well worth the investment compared to the $9000 cost of replacing radiator and geabox. The car wont be going offroad much and will not be doing any towing. So far so good. Auto transmission coolant contamination
Had to replace auto transmission due to coolant contamination. Nissan Australia have the cheek to claim that they are unaware of this as being an issue. This approach is insulting and this will be my last Nissan and I warn anyone with a Pathfinder to bypass the factory cooling setup and fit a proper transmission cooler which will save you 1000's.
Do not ask Nissan but rather speak directly to a gearbox specialist who will know of the problem that Nissan claim not to have.

I have suddenly found thick greyish oil in the radiator overflow bottle of my 05 pathfinder and the transmission has been sliping any sugestions as to what maybe causing this.
For those wondering why this happens, most automatic vehicles in all makes across the field these days have optioned to use the plastic radiator with an oil cooler integrated into the same unit. The p... Read more
roblem remains the membrane between the oil and the larger water core in the radiator. The water pressure is much higher than that of the oil within the radiator and once a crack has occurred, transmission failure is immanent. You will feel a slight shudder at the lights whilst slowing to a stop and reverse gear will not select as quickly as it would have previously. Slowly, slippage will occur spreading through each gear over a few days. Vehicles subjected to rough terrain or an accident are more subjectable to this happening. If you purchase an automatic vehicle with a radiator as such, fitting an external oil cooler and blanking the old fittings will save your pocket thousands and extend the life of the transmission. When purchasing a Second hand vehicle you can request the dealer have an external cooler fitted prior to signing the dotted line. This way by having the fluid drained by a specialized workshop with a full report documenting problems prior to you purchasing and if needed, you can apply for the appropriate warranty that covers potential issues. I had my dealer run around in circles for a sale, 50K engine service, replacing 2 leaking injectors, fitting a big external trans cooler, both diffs serviced, all under my instructions as I paid half the costs with my own mechanic preforming all the duties. Then applied for warranty for my 08 Pathfinder once I had seen the service reports. Everyone's a winner, the salesman made commission, and I got $2800 worth of work done for $1400 before I even picked it up. Its Time the little guy won for a change!! Hope I could help.Look up all the recalls for Nissan as I am sure there is a recall for radiator / coolant contamination

Dual battery mounting is a challenge as you can't drop a 5 cent piece through the engine bay but it can be done.

The third row you can have one seat up at a time which is great for when i have a booster seat in the 3rd row I can climb in and do up the seatbelt. This car is the easiest car Ive owned to park especially reverse parking as the mirrors are huge and lower down in reverse so you can see the ground. Passengers could do with a bit more leg room.2 comments

Clutch from hell
At 192k my 2008 pathfinder is on clutch number 4. First went at 20k while backing up a driveway. Second went on Frazer Island. Didn't like the sand. Third went for no apparent reason.
For the latest replacement I went to a private mechanic instead of the Nissan dealer. I am having an old fashioned solid flywheel and a heavy duty clutch plate installed instead of the useless composite flywheel. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
The same type of clutch is installed in Holden and Ford utes with the same results.
Apart from the clutch I love the vehicle. Drives well and is very comfortable.

06 Pathfinder ST
Bought second hand from dealer. .Good honest vehicle. had it for over 3 years and is now at 152,000ks. Have a small fuel issue that still need to resolved, but it doesn't hinder the driving. Have done some serious 4wding and plenty of towing though the outback. It is reasonable on fuel and handles quite well. I don't push it hard as would like to get another 8-10 years out of it.
Excellent power, very spacious, Quite comfortable to drive
Front passenger not comfortable

Hi Warwick, what was the fuel issue in the end & what engine did you have? How was it solved? Cheers :-)

I love my Pathfinder for a running the kids around town vehicle but our first trip with it off-road was a nightmare! It's way too low to be a good 4X4. The only way to make it a sufficient 4X4 is to get a lift kit and add a steel bash plate that covers the essentials i.e - the sump! (we had a tiny rock blow out the sump on our trip....NOT FUN!) All in all it's a very good vehicle and once we get those little problems fixed I can't really fault it!

Overall a great vehicle. Good family vehicle, 4wd (Have taken it to beaches, Sand Dunes and Private Trek's) no problems.
Good Mileage (Diesel). Good for 5 people, OK for 7 people. Front view of the car is majestic.
Poor interior plastics scratches very quickly. Had leak in the diff and got it fixed. Front passenger foot area gets wet when A/C drain is blocked. Nissan technician says we cant do anything about it. Sometimes little noisy.

Absolutely Love it. We have a 2008 Ti Diesel and its only got 15k on the clock. We have owned other 4 WD in the past but they are not in the same class as this car (Toyota Prado etc). I was aprehensive about buying an Auto but must say the Gear box is smooth and I no longer have concerns about that. What I would say is if Nissan could put a newer stereo in with Aux capability it would be great.
Great Millage, drives well, Diesel Motor has GRUNT when towing or overtaking on Highways. Great to Cruise as well as Play
No Aux input for IPODS etc

I love the way it handles, the comfort, the look. It is a bit hungry on the fuel, however I believe all the other points override this. I feel very safe.
Love the size of it. The car is very sturdy and even though it is quite big, it handles very well.
The turning circle is not as good as what it could be. I find I quite often have to do a three point turn as it cannot turn in small space. The turbo diesel is also a bit of a fuel guzzler.

As I wanted a vehicle to tow a race car trailer(1.7t)this vehicle was the one after testing Prados,Pajeros. After owning a Patrol before, the versatile rear lifting door on the Pathfinder is a gem,and no exterior spare wheel to worry about.Having the ease to turn a 7 seater to a flat floor easily without removing seats is a bonus. After 30K Kms it has been trouble free, the semi auto trans is really good along with the auto tinting rear vision mirror

The interior plastics are of poor quality

Looking at purchasing a 2006 petrol Pathfinder. Is there any dramas with the petrol motor? And any other problems I should know about.
1 answer
Sorry, can’t answer your question as my pathfinder is not that old and mine is a hybrid. My car is nearly 5 years old and the only problem I have had was when we returned from holidays and my battery was flat, that affected the electronics a bit but it was still drivable and Nissan reset the problem free of charge.

hi anyone had a problem of water gushing out the over flow?? replaced radiator, rad caps and thermostat.. its not really over heating any more but still water gushing out.. thought it was over flow from over filling but had it running for a while and no difference.. could it be water pump?
1 answer
Yep. Nearly always a cracked head. You can get the coolant tested in your radiator for exhaust gases, they overpressurise the exhaust system. Heaps of stuff on the net about it, especially under D40 Navara or YD25
crob1822asked
So my 2008, for some reason its a little bipolar with motor temperature. It randomly likes to get hot and dump antifreeze out the top of the overflow res. Replaced thermostat, new caps on the radiator and overflow res, flushed system. Anyone encounter this issue?
2 answers
Yes. Unfortunately it's the symptoms of a cracked head, they are famous for it.
You can get your fluid sampled in your rad to confirm. A head is about $1300 plus labpr if that's your only issue but they can crack cylinders too.
You could try a liquid head repair then drain aftet a month and replace with evans waterless coolant to reduce system pressure then drive it til it goes bang. Search d40 yd25 issues.
Thanks for the info, I actually had the head replaced the first time I had this issue. I couldn’t imagine that would be the cause again right? Had the liquids tested and they’re good. I’m at a loss at this point unless there might be something else?
