Parts are very expensive

published

We have a 2008 P/Finder $60,000.00 to buy new. (115,000 km./5yrs.) front inside door handles not working. To replace/fix $400.00.Timing chain $3,000.00(128,000/5yrs). My daughter has the same year. She had to replace the universials $3,500.00. A friend has a 2007 Navaro. Recently spent $6,000.00 on parts. Was quoted $6,000 for a tiiming chain fitted.
There is heaps of room for our big family
To replace parts it is to expensive

Great Car

published

I bought my manual ST new 3 years ago. It has been a great car, get awesome fuel economy 8.2L/100km in traffic, 6.8L/100km on highway. I tow a 2.2 tonne (6.2M) boat and get about 13L/100km. It tows the boat easily maintaining 80km/h up Mount Usley (near Wollongong). Seven seats also comes in handy.
Great power and fuel economy. Heaps of space.
Rear suspension upgrade is a good idea if towing over 2 tonnes.

Mitsubishi Pajero also has corrosion problem in 2010 models under top seal rear passenger doors. They are not telling customers either.

Even if it is out of warranty check with consumer affairs. The laws have changed some what.

Practical vehicle

published

Bought a 2007 st new as a work vehicle. Very practical car, does everything asked of it, not treated particularly well but has never let me down. Only now, in January 2013, with 282,000km on the clock am i looking to replace it. Still runs fine although fuel economy not as good as new.
Reliable, practical, was good looking, strong, nice to drive (for a 4wd), strong diesel
First set of tyres wore out quickly -wheels were poorly aligned fron new. Had expensive injector work at 150k and at 250k.

You do not say the models year.

I'd also appreciate knowing year, engine, trim level (ST, Ti, etc), if you have the time. Cheers :)

Awesome thus far

published

Had my 08 pathfinder now for 2 years after purchasing second hand @34000 kms, it now has 102000, I tow a duel axel 9x6 trailer almost everyday with no issue fully loaded with tools, it's still on its first clutch. I've done some easy to medium off roading with minimal dramas, so far very happy, I have had problems with the silver trim around the steering wheel and window buttons that peel like sunburnt skin, unfortunately out if warranty you get no resolution, 1000 + to repair from nissan was to steep so just left it, but other wise a really great vehicle, keep the services up, and she'll go and go
Great towing, roomy, practical, looks great
Bit thirsty when towing, peeling interior, can be smokey under load

So far so good

Auto transmission coolant contamination

published

Had to replace auto transmission due to coolant contamination. Nissan Australia have the cheek to claim that they are unaware of this as being an issue. This approach is insulting and this will be my last Nissan and I warn anyone with a Pathfinder to bypass the factory cooling setup and fit a proper transmission cooler which will save you 1000's.
Do not ask Nissan but rather speak directly to a gearbox specialist who will know of the problem that Nissan claim not to have.

I have suddenly found thick greyish oil in the radiator overflow bottle of my 05 pathfinder and the transmission has been sliping any sugestions as to what maybe causing this.

Look up all the recalls for Nissan as I am sure there is a recall for radiator / coolant contamination

Clutch from hell

published

At 192k my 2008 pathfinder is on clutch number 4. First went at 20k while backing up a driveway. Second went on Frazer Island. Didn't like the sand. Third went for no apparent reason.

For the latest replacement I went to a private mechanic instead of the Nissan dealer. I am having an old fashioned solid flywheel and a heavy duty clutch plate installed instead of the useless composite flywheel. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

The same type of clutch is installed in Holden and Ford utes with the same results.
Apart from the clutch I love the vehicle. Drives well and is very comfortable.

06 Pathfinder ST

published

Bought second hand from dealer. .Good honest vehicle. had it for over 3 years and is now at 152,000ks. Have a small fuel issue that still need to resolved, but it doesn't hinder the driving. Have done some serious 4wding and plenty of towing though the outback. It is reasonable on fuel and handles quite well. I don't push it hard as would like to get another 8-10 years out of it.
Excellent power, very spacious, Quite comfortable to drive
Front passenger not comfortable

Good

Overall a great vehicle. Good family vehicle, 4wd (Have taken it to beaches, Sand Dunes and Private Trek's) no problems.
Good Mileage (Diesel). Good for 5 people, OK for 7 people. Front view of the car is majestic.
Poor interior plastics scratches very quickly. Had leak in the diff and got it fixed. Front passenger foot area gets wet when A/C drain is blocked. Nissan technician says we cant do anything about it. Sometimes little noisy.

Good

Absolutely Love it. We have a 2008 Ti Diesel and its only got 15k on the clock. We have owned other 4 WD in the past but they are not in the same class as this car (Toyota Prado etc). I was aprehensive about buying an Auto but must say the Gear box is smooth and I no longer have concerns about that. What I would say is if Nissan could put a newer stereo in with Aux capability it would be great.
Great Millage, drives well, Diesel Motor has GRUNT when towing or overtaking on Highways. Great to Cruise as well as Play
No Aux input for IPODS etc

Excellent

published

I love the way it handles, the comfort, the look. It is a bit hungry on the fuel, however I believe all the other points override this. I feel very safe.
Love the size of it. The car is very sturdy and even though it is quite big, it handles very well.
The turning circle is not as good as what it could be. I find I quite often have to do a three point turn as it cannot turn in small space. The turbo diesel is also a bit of a fuel guzzler.

Excellent

published

As I wanted a vehicle to tow a race car trailer(1.7t)this vehicle was the one after testing Prados,Pajeros. After owning a Patrol before, the versatile rear lifting door on the Pathfinder is a gem,and no exterior spare wheel to worry about.Having the ease to turn a 7 seater to a flat floor easily without removing seats is a bonus. After 30K Kms it has been trouble free, the semi auto trans is really good along with the auto tinting rear vision mirror
This 2.5L T/D has exactly what I wanted, great torque, fuel efficient,3Tonne towing cap., 7 Seats and room to burn.
The interior plastics are of poor quality

Pathfinder R51 (2005-2012)

Looking at purchasing a 2006 petrol Pathfinder. Is there any dramas with the petrol motor? And any other problems I should know about.

Sorry, can’t answer your question as my pathfinder is not that old and mine is a hybrid. My car is nearly 5 years old and the only problem I have had was when we returned from holidays and my battery was flat, that affected the electronics a bit but it was still drivable and Nissan reset the problem free of charge.

Pathfinder R51 (2005-2012)

hi anyone had a problem of water gushing out the over flow?? replaced radiator, rad caps and thermostat.. its not really over heating any more but still water gushing out.. thought it was over flow from over filling but had it running for a while and no difference.. could it be water pump?

Yep. Nearly always a cracked head. You can get the coolant tested in your radiator for exhaust gases, they overpressurise the exhaust system. Heaps of stuff on the net about it, especially under D40 Navara or YD25

Pathfinder R51 (2005-2012)

So my 2008, for some reason its a little bipolar with motor temperature. It randomly likes to get hot and dump antifreeze out the top of the overflow res. Replaced thermostat, new caps on the radiator and overflow res, flushed system. Anyone encounter this issue?

Yes. Unfortunately it's the symptoms of a cracked head, they are famous for it.
You can get your fluid sampled in your rad to confirm. A head is about $1300 plus labpr if that's your only issue but they can crack cylinders too.
You could try a liquid head repair then drain aftet a month and replace with evans waterless coolant to reduce system pressure then drive it til it goes bang. Search d40 yd25 issues.

crob1822
crob1822

Thanks for the info, I actually had the head replaced the first time I had this issue. I couldn’t imagine that would be the cause again right? Had the liquids tested and they’re good. I’m at a loss at this point unless there might be something else?
