I purchased my Pathfinder mainly for the seven seater option. I was very impressed with the versatile seating arrangements - The clever way the middle seats fold up for year access. Also the clever way the middle and rear seats are able to fold down to provide plenty of room for cargo. I have taken my Pathfinder out camping and my son and I sleep in the rear section as a tent. Have used the rear section more times than expected ofr cargo carrying. The comfort of the sixth and seventh seat is far greater than any other seven seat I have seen.
The convenience of the versatile seating arrangement. Seats seven. Carryś large cargo. Great torque.
Cheap plastic interior. Looks smart when new but marks up easy.

So much better than expected
Beautiful to drive in town, love the experience. Great for towing When purchasing this vehicle we considered the prado and pajero, but they're just too expensive. The sorento towing capacity was not big enough and it wasn't as nice to drive. The new diesel territory was great to drive. In the end the Pathfinder was a great value 4wd, not costing much more than the aforementioned SUVs, and much cheaper than the aforementioned other 4wds.

to sit in, 2nd row better as we've got used to it. Love the size of the second row rear windows. More foot room required for second row. Much more room required for third row if adults were to sit in there, but then that would compromise luggage space. Should be option not to have third row seats at all as they take up space.

I bought my 08/09 ST-L 2.5TD Pathfinder about a month ago and i must say i love it. It purchased due to the fact we needed 6 six seats just for our family and driving a spoon bus ( people mover ) just isn't an option for us. Plus been a 4wd means we can get off the beaten track in style and comfort. This is my sixth Nissan now and i will continue to buy them. Pathfinder offer 4wd, 7 seats, perfect size for my application, decent on fuel around town, ride height and comfort, up-gradable. But as i said Nissan Interiors arent all that fantastic regardless of model range, its the one thing i cant give a goo review on. Tips for buying any second hand car - Drop all fluids and flush - Wheel alignment - Get car looked over by good mechanics. If you cant afford to do this, buy new. Great looks, great ride height, quiet diesel, heaps of room inside, easy to drive, better on fuel than i imagined. Its a Nissan. 7 seats Like all new Nissans ive owned, interior trims/plastics/vinyls arent of a very high standard regardless of model range and they mark/scratch/wear very very easily. I am a very fastidious owner and even that doesn't help. My only bad thing to say

Would never buy another one, mostly because we have contacted nissan god knows how many times with all our problems and they just dont give a fig. We are out of pocket well over $400 for the broken door (rear passanger) handle (which was not even painted it's just black) nissan dont give a crap about the 6 stacker CD player not working. We dont know how much it will cost to fix and we dread to find out. Basically nissan say they sell them with a warranty but they dont really, they are not helpful and dont care. if you live in the outback you will get no assistance from nissan at all. I am so unhappy with nissan I am considering getting stick work put all over the car with what has gone wrong with it and how much it has cost us to fix. So it is a mobile advertisement on why not to buy a nissan. As I said, loved this car from new but after warranty ended Nissan did not want to no about any type of problem.
1. Rear door handle broke including central locking mechanism - $1000 later - ( Door hardy used as most time only driver in car)
2. 120,00 km - Solenoid in auto box - Nissan only part, 15 days from Nissan overseas. - $2000 later

Never again will we purchase ANY Nissan product. Have been severely jipped on this one as a result of promised towing limits, verses actual ones.
Comfortable car. Easy to drive. Good on fuel.
Turning circle is bigger than a land cruiser. The car is advertised as a 3 tonne towing, but Nissan contradicts itself by not warranting a weight distribution hitch on their towbar. Horrible Nerver again !
We brought it end 2007 and too many proplems. Oil leak few times; interior light fix too many times; back door handle broken . Luckily, only few days before warranty finish, engine making oil up to about 4-5 litter every 2000km (oil consumption). Now,after 9 months they still can't find problem. I brought my car to car dealer over toooooo manYYYY yy times - cant count it anymore. I am now sick of it and will take to CTTT for them to deal with the problem. There is a lady at Australia Nissan customer service is very very rude, no consideration and do not want to help. I am very up set with them.

Worst car ever owned in 22 years
Bought this car with high hopes having been recommended that nissan was the way to go by friends.Purchased with just over 20k on clock 2years old.Came with remainder of Nissan 4 year warranty as well as additional 3 year village motors warranty.
Clutch went within first 4 months at 26k on clock, never towed or been offroad both Nissan Australia and dealer warranty useless not worth the paper it is written on .Told to fit new Nissan clucth at $ 3000 as old one wasn't faulty and that was normal wear and tear.Had aftermarket Safari clutch put in ...Read more

Modern dual-mass flywheels are prone to let a clutch fail at that mileage; an auto 'box is a better buy, generally speaking.

Bad car in garage more than street
Oil leak many time, back door handle both side broken in door light switch break many time. Big problem I have the diesel leak in engine oil one and half year still on nissan could not fix it all happen be for warranty finish, very bad service I take them to Fair trading to at for new engine ( terrible car)

had the 05 diesel (st) since new, about to trade out of it, 250,000 k's. I live in the country, so this is a tuff 4wd. Once I changed the manufacturer tyres (conti's) to all purpose (duellers) it will go anywhere and if you need 4wd you probably shouldn't be there unless a tractor is nearby or you just enjoy stuffing the bush! economy is good for long trips and not bad in the city either, i manage 700kms a tank, or 550-600 around town. i tow a ski boat, no probs. demand is dodgy for sudden overtaking. interior finish is [censored word removed], plastics scratch and scuff too easily. poorly sealed in dusty environs. drives with the refinement of a truck. didn't buy prado becuase back seats didn't split at the time, and now they do, but space behind is limited. territory (new one) diesel is great, but the car itself is still a [censored word removed] box. Kluger middle seat in 2nd row is a joke. Subaru tribeca wouldn't survive in my conditions. The new pathfinders are overpriced for what you get. these cars are "work" machines, great space inside but rough to ride in and bloody expensive to fix. poor product quality
Chrome on the car is coated on plastic and of poor quality. Chrome on outside mirrors has peeled away at join of plastic mould due to wind during normal driving conditions causing a whistling sound. ere not reconnected correctly after initial 1,000km service and plastic cover melted - needed replacing, car is currently in garage (been there for a week) as pump is leaking fluid/oil and seal has been replaced which has meant engine has had to be dismantled - this is after waiting 3 weeks for seal to arrive from overseas and fluid/oil leaking everywhere, radiator has had to be replaced as leaking, and, finally, they have had to respray my door as it was returned to me after initial service with a scratch down to metal on it. Village motors employee was rude to my wife when she dropped off car, other 'customer service' person is very short and unhelpful. Just about to pick up car again after all issues 'fixed', wish me luck.. Not happy with car or dealerHaving read the reviews above I am now convinced the Pathfinder is not for me. City 4WD not cut out for the offroad
Nissan Pathfinder is not all it's made out to be in the marketing material or by what the sales person tells you. Great car for getting around town but offroad things can go wrong very quickly. Getting Nissan to recognise the faults as warranty repairs is a war unto itself.
Good on road, roomy.
Bad warranty service, basic things going wrong on a new car is unexpected.

Generally not a bad vehicle. I was assigned mine as a company vehicle with 70k on the clock. The power steering is instantaneous and can give you a scare - i travel 90k each way daily and it requires constant alertness. Seats in the rear are a pain in the rear after a couple of hours. The door handles on the rear doors are flimsy and the interior plastic and exterior paint mark easily. Overall it is ok but i would really to have it's predecessor, a 2006 Patrol 4.2 TDi back. Probably the Pathfinder is more a city car.
Excellent 4WD abilities and well thought out rear interior. Fuel economy acceptable. 4.2 motor goes like a scalded cat.
Power steering is too touchy. Rear seats are like concrete on a long trip and paint and trim easily marked.

Short review of Pathfinder STL first purchased 2005, v6 4L diesel
This car was originally purchased in Brisbane before a move a few years later to Sydney.The only modification has been to fit it with a Nissan alloy front bull bar.
During our time in QLD the car had some light off-road but nothing extreme. (It came into its own during 5+ trips to Fraser Island). At the time we needed a larger car (previous car 1999 Honda CRV) due to a growing family and longer touring trips.

vel. We have used the seven seat option on multiple time, mostly with children under 10, but in two instances with 2 adults on Fraser Island. (Not admittedly fun for them). Why'd we buy it? Compromise on price and handling. We wanted a vehicle that was smaller than Cruisers or Patrols but handled better than the then current Jeep/Prado/Pajero options. Do we regret it? No but not without a few frustrations. Would we buy another? Probably not - the overall build quality is hit and miss - it's strong where it needs to be, eg. transmission, but too many little things keep needing attention. First the good bits... 4L petrol engine has power on tap, handled everything we threw at it with ease and then some. Dragged us through sand on Fraser that higher clearance Patrols and L'Cruiser struggled with. The VDC option helps keep the power in check. The relative simplicity of the low/hi/auto 4wd/2wd system is hassle free. There is absolutely space to spare with the 5 seat option, not once have we loaded it to the brim (and that allows for 2 children+partner+tent+camping gear+food+suitcases and boogie boards...). For a SUV, handling is better than average (and I've driven a few). There is body roll but, nothwithstanding its ladder frame chassis, the car does handle pretty well. The driver train feels bullet proof and we (at least unlike some others) have not yet had any issues with it (touch wood). Multiple 12V power points are useful. Unsurprisingly for a weight car it does run through brake pads relatively quickly. The original Goodyear Wrangler tyres felt skittish in the wet and it was difficult to get same size replacements (eventually went to Yokohamas with a slightly different profile and have had no issues). Servicing costs can be a little 'surprising' and do not under any circumstances break the plastic bottle that provides water for washing the windscreen - it comes from Japan and costs over $400 (I found gaffer tape a suitable fix). Front right side indicator feel out of socket - bluetack has been my friend here. Rear globes blow more than I can recall happening with other cars. BOTH rear door passenger door handles broke within a week of each other (note to others - do not therefore have your childlocks set to on - makes it damn near impposible to open the passenger doors from the inside!!!), Nissan service cost to fix was expensive - ended up ordering parts from US and getting local mechanic to fit for me - half the cost of Nissan. Drinks like an alcoholic at a free bar - current consumption showing 21.5l per 100km (I appreciate that as this is city driving in a 2.2+t 4L /V6 car I shouldn't expect much but it IS thirsty). Highway running shows consumption dropping considerably. Side steps come loss on a regular basis despite the best attempts of various services to prevent this. Cabin is wearing OK but not great and, as per other reviews, the plastic does scratch. Driving lights are not powerful enough for my preference so fitted different globes and have no issue since. The latch for the little case for sunglasses in the front of the car roof is fairly weak and the case keeps dropping open - this is in the peripheral eye-line and a pain in the backside.2 comments

r out that should last for ages, (radiators, disc rotors, aircon/heating etc etc).....all the rear passenger doors have broken several times each and we have given up repairing them and i can see from reading forums it is still happening in the 2011 models.....i finally had enough after spending about $2000 on rear door handles and called Nissan Australia, they didn't care at all and the girl i spoke to was like a robot with no heart...i see you can buy a rear door handle in the USA for $17 from Nissan, but in Australia get your $170 out plus painting plus fitting, approx $450 every time you break a door handle....Not only do i not recommend the Nissan Pathfinders but i would never ever consider any Nissan as Nissan Australia are a bunch of tossers to deal with and i hope they go broke.Ditto! This is definately my lasr nissan,can't do enough for you when you are buying the car.Dont want to know you when there is a problem with the car.

I have owned mine for 4 months and been towed 4 times and at the dealer 5 times for different issues.
I have a huge lemon that looks great, after 2 weeks belt jumped and wiped out radiator hose, dealer for 10 days, as was over 100km from home got a hire car for 4 days then took it off me, even know its warranty and i have 3 kids on my own. had noise in airbag, very noisy air con, where they told me,"some times there noisy get over it", just won't start due to the STUPID keyless entry the worst invention, it stuffs up and confuse's the compute...Read more

Drives OK - but vibrates & rattles
Comfortable to drive, certainly not powerful though, but it is a 4WD so you kind of expect a 'truck-like' feel to the drive. I have exhausted all my options with Nissans Service Departments who have not only been unable to provide me with a solution, but have infact made the problem worse (and marked my nice new dash components in the process!). Spoke to Nissan Australia 'Customer Service' and wrote an official complaint. Nissan Australia service was pathetic. They lie and always pass the buck back to the dealer each time. Considered going to Fair Trading but not worth the stress. Am currently trying to learn to make peace with the vibrations & rattles (or drive with the windows down and stereo up!). I get comfort in knowing that in around two years time I will be in a position to trade it in for anything other than a Nissan. After reading the reviews on this site I'm thankful nothing mechanical has gone wrong with mine yet and that my rear door handles still work (touch wood!!). I have only done 17,000K's though... Strangely enough, I enjoy driving this beast. But, if I had to list all the things that have gone wrong with it, I would be here for days. ng ok, it was good. Every time I needed attention, the service was the problem. When the service was the problem, Nissan didn't want to know about it. This transmission issue is a regular issue in the states and recognised by Nissan USA. After the service department telling me that I was imagining the issue - sluggish acceleration, hit and miss pick up etc for more than a year of services, (I had begun to believe them)...they finally said...and I quote..." oh yeah...we have found something now but we can't fix it. Would buy a another Nissan Pathfinder. Recommended if you require a comfortable allround 4WD. We have done 100k and had very few problems. The wife thinks its a good car to drive and park. Off road it has been able to go most places any other 4WdD has gone.
Good Family Car, Capable off roader, gets most places the the Land Rover Disco did. Loves the beach never gets stuck. Auto Transmisson work wells. V6 has plenty of grunt and has resonable economy. Select option 4WD is great, easy for my wife to drive and select.
Front Diff seal seems to be leaking after 90k. Developed engine oil leak at the same 90K. Limited Off road accesories available.

Drives well a little hard on the road surface, would only one purchase again if there was more space in the back seating area. A good vehicle and feels like a four wheel drive. Great family vehicle. with good ground clearance and easy to clean

Love it drive it but boy does it like a drink, fantastic in all conditions from mud to sand to long desert trips. I have had the vehicle thats new and love it to death. It is comfortable with heaps of power and room, but do take note of it's ever increasing love for premium petrol

Sorry, can’t answer your question as my pathfinder is not that old and mine is a hybrid. My car is nearly 5 years old and the only problem I have had was when we returned from holidays and my battery was flat, that affected the electronics a bit but it was still drivable and Nissan reset the problem free of charge.

Yep. Nearly always a cracked head. You can get the coolant tested in your radiator for exhaust gases, they overpressurise the exhaust system. Heaps of stuff on the net about it, especially under D40 Navara or YD25

So my 2008, for some reason its a little bipolar with motor temperature. It randomly likes to get hot and dump antifreeze out the top of the overflow res. Replaced thermostat, new caps on the radiator and overflow res, flushed system. Anyone encounter this issue?

Yes. Unfortunately it's the symptoms of a cracked head, they are famous for it.
You can get your fluid sampled in your rad to confirm. A head is about $1300 plus labpr if that's your only issue but they can crack cylinders too.
You could try a liquid head repair then drain aftet a month and replace with evans waterless coolant to reduce system pressure then drive it til it goes bang. Search d40 yd25 issues.
Thanks for the info, I actually had the head replaced the first time I had this issue. I couldn’t imagine that would be the cause again right? Had the liquids tested and they’re good. I’m at a loss at this point unless there might be something else?
