The Norco Cabot touring bike : perfect
This bike surprises me so much. I was in the market for lone riders like Trek520 or Kona Sutra. It ends up after many trials that this bike was easily the best bang for the buck. 30 speed, chromoly frame (in cyclotouring it's a must), v-brakes, pre-drilled holes almost everywhere, FSA pedals, tiagra (okay not 105 or durace, but we don't ride these bikes like racers), good riding position and sitting high, can fit 28mm as well as 40mm tires... in essence, I,ve ride this bike in so many different situations and countries, and the call is so easy ...
Read more: that machine is made for the road and won't suffer any comparison with anyone. I've carried on that work horse more than often 35 lbs of payload + 6 liters of water(13 lbs) + myself 180lbs = without generating any big damage over 5000 miles. 2016 Update : After these years it still rides like a pro! UPDATE : Now coming back from North Africa and another 1000 more kilos. The bike has been great from the uphill and downhill in the coastal region (Rif) down to the southern Marzouga and Goulmima desertland. No major issue at all. The bike easily survived from a bus transportation and fishbasket mini-van freight carrying (yes, we had to put the bikes in a fisherman back mini-van) for few kilos. At any rate, the Norco CABOT gave me a sweet ride, conformtable cebause of its high siting position. This time the tires were 38mm instead of the regular 28mm. The brakes reach their limit point during that trip, not unusual.
