    Malamoo Mega

    published

I use the tent for 4WD trips. I have used it from deserts to rainforests. Just back from a 4 day trip into a rainforest area of QLD. It rained most of the time. The tent was completely dry the whole time. The vestibule is large enough for two camp chairs to escape the worst of the rain. Very easy to setup 3 seconds, easy to pull down as well once you master the technique. Original bag fell apart on the roof rack so I had a canvas one made. Love the tent for our purpose.

    Real world tested

We are big fans of the smaller Malamoo tents. However we were dissappointed with the Xtra due to its entrance design, as it allows water in to enter & pool at the inner fly wire door making exit/entry difficult after rain, also entrance cover doesn't allow for clean entry as it drapes over you, so during rain.... you get the picture. When inside the tent the gap between fly wire door & outer cover is to large allowing heat to escape during cold nights. Also entrance cover doesn't secure at the base thus flaps in the wind.

    Best tent I ever had!

We used the tent for 2 9-day trips in the southern and nothern part of western australia and it never let us down! we experienced strong winds, heavy rainfalls and extreme heat and the tent was just perfect! literally set up in 3 seconds!

    Rubbish quality and hot

Popping up this tent is great: just throw it out then stake it to the ground and secure the guy ropes in less than a minute. Stakes are good quality. There are no shelters over the openings so if it rains at night you will all be wet; either by the rain or sweating inside. It feels like you are breaking it when you put it back in it's bag. Kids cannot pack this away. The bag is a large disk = awkward to carry and store. I used mine less than 1 month in total over an 18 month period and the material and guyropes were totally ruined by uv. The roof material split in a few places (no warranty for this - i was told it is "wear and tear") so i dumped it. Do not waste your money on this tent.

I bought a Malamoo pop up & several poles snapped by 2nd use. They replaced it under warranty & the replacement had snapped poles out of the box. I got a refund, which would be my recommendation to you

From our experience with Malamoo Tents is that the tent capacities are often over rated. For example if they claim it's a 3 person tent, it is more likely a 2 person in reality. I don't own a "Mega" but from my understanding is a 4 person capacity, so in reality it will be more suited to 3 people, thus it may be a little tight. Best bet is to see the tent in a store already set up & that way you can make an informed decision.

Can kids easily pack it away?

Hi. Depends how old you're kids are, & their stature?? I've got the middle-sized model which i use as an alternative to a swag. I have no problem packing the tent but i'm a full grown male. If you're kids are small/young & you'd want them to be responsible for packing their own gear, then i'd probably recommend looking at the small model. Otherwise, get a larger size & be prepared to help them pack it. Hope that helps

Hey, I'm 175cm tall and have no problem putting my tent away. I would expect that most teenagers would be able to pack it up, provided they're strong enough to stand the tent on its end (not too heavy but it is awkward and needs a bit of support). If they can jump and reach/hit the top of a standard door frame then they should be tall enough to pack the tent. I use my Malamoo X-tra tent fairly often and have found no problem putting it away (there is a knack to it though).
