Wow! It really works
I didn't think it would work on my soleplate as it was pretty dirty. But it worked within seconds and I now have a sparkling clean soleplate. Does have a nasty odour, but worth it for the results.

Toxic iron cleaning stick
After not being able to find my old White King iron cleaner I finally found a replacement, or so I thought. What a disappointment! Toxic fumes during the cleaning, toxic fumes after the process. No ingredients listed either. After all this, read the Phillips PR department joke about the issue when refusing to answer someone's question as to the ingredients. Their reply was "top secret" and a

Toxic fumes - avoid this product.
The fumes omitted from this product were overwhelming and smelt so toxic. The fumes made me cough for hours and I still feel sick after using the stick this morning. This product cannot be safe - I want the manufacturer/distributer to address the questions consumers have about the dangers of the fumes.

Instructions for use
Hi - can someone please tell me how to use the cleaning stick as the instructions on the pack are next to useless. Do you apply the stick to a hot iron? I tried this and then wiped the iron with a slightly damp cloth but it made no difference at all - very disappointed!

Beware of Fumes!!!!!!
Buyer beware! I'd rate zero stars if I could...
I rarely write reviews such as this but felt compelled to after my experience with Philip's Soleplate Cleaning Stick. Using the product as directed on the back of the packet, it emitted very toxic smelling fumes that took a while to disappate, even in a well venitlated area. What's concerning here is the packaging doesn't even state to use the product in a well ventilated area and since the stick itself has little to no odour, I certainly didn't expect such offensive fumes. That Philips don't adv...Read more

Thought I had ruined my iron!
I 'just' caught a dress because I had the iron too hot. Tried a few on line suggestions for getting the melted fabric off the soleplate of the iron - no good. Thought this was the end of a very good/expensive iron. Searched a bit deeper and found a link for this product. Initially had trouble finding it in the shops, but today I managed to buy one. Within 15 minutes of being home my iron was back to brand new - love it and couldn't be happier. Thank You Phillips!

Does the job :)
I bought this product to save my new Philips Azur Performance plus Iron (great iron)
The soleplate became sticky (my fault) The cleaning stick worked a treat now the plate is as good as new.
Tip: do small spots at a time and be mindful of not getting excess into the steam holes.I held the iron on its side and in a downward position to make sure I did not have problems. I never had lasting smoky fumes, I used the steam function on a piece of material after and now the iron is great.

Saved my new expensive iron!
I have a wobbly small ironing board, and when I was turning over some pants, I knocked the hot iron off the board and onto the carpet. I bought the heavy Philips Azur iron for $129 a month ago to save me time and effort (which it does) and that iron gets REALLY hot quickly. So the iron bounced off my bed and fell on the carpet below straight on its soleplate. I was quick to get the iron off from the ground, but it burnt just enough carpet to get a million little naps of wool and dirt that immediately got soldered onto the iron's HOT soleplate. ...Read more
My iron recommends wiping with a damp towel to clean the soleplate, and for this mess I had to scrub the soleplate to remove half the dirt. The rest just wouldn't come off. Luckily I had the half-used stick of this wax soleplate cleaner from 2 months ago when I used it on my cheap supermarket $12 iron that I had as a hand me down. This cleaner worked amazing on the Philips soleplate, needed just a small dab to melt and pour over the entire soleplate like liquid butter, and with one wipe of the towel, all the thousands of little dirt pieces simply came off. This makes me think this product works best on Philips irons. After the wax treatment, I steam cleaned the iron and ironed 2 remaining shirts with the leftover water-steam. By the time I was ironing the second shirt I felt the iron soleplate had become smooth and perfect, just like it was before I tipped it over. This little thing has been a lifesaver! Previously I had bought it to remove some fabric residue that was sticking onto the non-stick soleplate on my small supermarket iron. That iron is cheap, and it probably burnt through the previous owner's synthetic clothes which caused the dark burnt fabric stains on the soleplate. I used up about half this soleplate cleaner on that iron over three tries to remove that burnt fabric residue, which it did, but it also took off some of the non-stick coating and exposed the raw steel in a small patch on that soleplate. This doesn't bother me as that iron still works as it was meant to. In comparison: it was more effort and used up more of this product on that supermarket iron, as opposed to today when I used it on my new Philips iron. When using these products I always read up on their pros and cons before buying them, so the past reviews warning me about the toxic smell was something I was fully aware of and I took my precautions. When done right, this product is amazing!1 comment

Ruined my iron
This stick did clean my iron's soleplate, but while cleaning it emitted disgusting, smoky fumes which filled my whole house. Now every time I turn on my iron it emits the same fumes, which are so strong and foul I can't use my iron anymore. I have tried everything to try and clean it but the wax from the stick must have left some kind of residue on my iron. I called Philips customer service but they refused to help. Thanks Philips for ruining my $120 iron.

It works...but beware the fumes
I too used this stick on my Tefal soleplate, and it made it really clean. However, I wasn't prepared for the foul smelling fumes that the product gave off when applied to the warm sole plate. The instructions do not warn you about the fumes nor do they say what is in the cleaning stick so am left wondering if the fumes are harmful.

Fantastic Product
I had a problem with the black soleplate of my Tefal iron and it's so terrible it smudges off on the clothes. I tried scrubbing the soleplate with metal scourer, watching youtube tutorials how to remove the dark soleplate and nothing helped. My last resort was this small stick and hoped it will work because I don't want to buy a new iron because Tefal is a bit expensive and it's only 2 yrs old. I followed the instructions and voila! The black stain vanished as if it was never there. I felt silly doing all of those stuff, when there is this great product that is cheap, small and effective. This gem saved me heaps of cash from not buying a new iron. Thank you.
Cheap and really works

They’re so toxic smelling aren’t they Zoe! This exact thing happened to me and I was surprised there was no warning on the packaging. I had to air the entire house out.

Hi, are you able to tell me whether the fumes that are released by the cleaning stick when it is applied to the warm sole plate of the iron are harmful?
2 answers
I cleaned the iron plate in an open area that is well ventilated. I took precautions because it is still a cleaning product and you are melting it, therefore releasing the fumes. Just go to the Philips website and contact them for more enquiries about their product.
A very valid question after a traumatising experience with this product today... intersting to see no response from Philips and no precautions on the product itself advising to use in a well ventilated area.
