Terrible

published

Purchased this less than 2 months ago, this is the worst hose reel I have ever had - especially for the $70+ price tag. My 30 metre Pope Pinnacle 12mm hose (which is a fabulous hose) does not wind on tightly enough so the whole hose will not fit on the reel. Basically you have to unwind the entire hose and hand feed it super slowly onto the reel to fit even 2/3rds of it's length. The hose slips off the sides or buckles up in the middle stopping it winding. I was trying to work out if there was some trick to using this reel but life is too short for how awkward it is to use. My super cheap $10 hose reels work better than this. Terribly disappointed.

Purchased in September 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $74.00.

Worst purchase ever!

published

Purchased this product as it looked and sounded great, neat and tidy. If only it worked as promised! The winder doesn’t work properly and the hose kinks. We have to manually lift the hose off the roller as it doesn’t roll tightly and slips over the edge. We have the receipt but not the box so don’t know if we can return it.

I put mine together on boxing day with a hangover in 40c heat without tools. at first I fed the hose onto the real incorrectly and it was hard to pull out without becoming unstable, I then corrected this and I can pull 30 meters out using my teeth .I will be using it a lot so will see in 6 months if its a good product or not

OMG WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH

published

At least we got to step 3 but no further as the handle won’t insert as it is too large. Back to Bunnings it goes and I better get a refund. Agree with earlier post - Pope is a joke except I’m not laughing, wasted my time buying this garbage and frustration trying to assemble it “without tools” you are kidding, needed a sledge hammer to get past step 2. I will spin on the spot and rewind the hose myself.

Expensive junk

It’s impossible to assemble without tools - you need a mallet to insert metal cross bars. Falls over when pulling out the hose. How do underperforming products from a company like Pope make it to the market? Don’t buy this rubbish.

Avoid - poor quality control in manufacture

published

The unit I purchased can't even be assembled past Step 2 in the instructions - the metal Cross Bar is too large to be inserted into the bottom of the plastic Side Frames! This can be seen in the attached photo.

Fell Over and Broke

published

When pulling out hose all is good until there is only a few metres of hose left on the reel and then there is not enough weight and the cart falls over. Bad design in my opinion with the pivot point (the guide wheel) at the top. Advertising says “anti-tip base provides stability”. Sorry Mr Pope, there is nothing stable or anti-tip about your product. My cart broke after it fell over twice. Thank goodness for Bunnings cheeful return policy.

Pope, what a joke!

published

Despite being marketed as Pope's premium hose reel, this product disappoints at every level. Cheap plastic construction is simply not up to the demands of the garden or its intended use. The hose tracker on mine began to bend and fail rendering the system useless. The connection fitting internal to the drum is made of cheap brittle plastic and has broken. The unit is so light and flimsy it constantly falls over - you cannot wind or unwind without turning it into a two person job. The handles kept separating from the unit every time I picked it up. Overall this is a very poorly designed product with cheap, plastic materials. Do not waste your money.

Don't buy this

published

Totally useless. No weight means you have to hold it as you wind or rewind hose or it falls over. Hose moving tracker has never worked and sticks so you have to use one hand to guide the hose and the other to turn the handle, your foot and knee stopping the cart from moving. The hose connection to the cart leaks. A big waste of money.

Pope? Nope!

published

Hasn't worked from the beginning. Clumsy to use, needs two people to operate to prevent unit falling over. Hose tracking stopped working after a couple of uses. So disappointed, we couldn't even be bothered to take it back!

Hi Chris,

You can get this information from the Bunnings website, under 'Specifications': https://www.bunnings.com.au/pope-premium-hose-cart_p0092995

This hose cart is made from ABS or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, which is a common thermoplastic polymer.

I have a problem with assembling the Pope Premium Hose Cart. The Metal Cross Bar is slightly too large to be pressed into the plastic Side Frames - there is no way I can get it in. Anyone else had this problem? It makes the whole thing completely useless, a total waste of money

I have a ready assembled Pope hose cart and it is totally useless. The hose has to be manually rewound as the handle jams. Also the hose jams when you unwind it and no weight in the cart so it topples over. A total waste of money. No more Pope purchases for me.

I'm beginning to agree with you Maza. The response from Pope was to bang it in with a rubber mallet. Really?

Orvis
Orvis

It is an interference fit and I had to strike it with a rubber mallet to fit as well. Don’t worry though, after a while of moving the cart around, the metal tubes will pull out and fall out because the unit is so cheaply made.
