Hi, I'm going to buy the Reid Vintage Classic Petite 24" bike, does anyone know if it's designed for a child's seat to be on the back? Thank you in advance.

Hello Amarente,
Unfortunately a Child Carrier / Seat will not work on the Vintage Classic Petite 24" Bike as it is not a Full size Bike. For a Child Carrier to ba able to succuessfully fit onto a bike it will need to be at least require the bike to have 26" or 700C size wheels.
Kind Regards,

Vintage Ladies 7-Speed Classic

Hi, I have had this for a year, and my wife only rode it twice in that time. Trying to get it ready again for her to ride last week, i realized parts of the braking surface on the rims were peeling off in chunks. Now where and how do i get replacement for these? Front and back wheels. Could i use any road bike wheels and slap on the 7 speed cassette?

Reid sells replacement wheelsets for $70 (you get both wheels). But there's nothing to peel off the braking surface: these surfaces are bare alloy. Anything peeling off is therefore some kind of contaminant. I'd recommend taking it into a bike shop so a mechanic can take a look in person and advise.

Additionally, the wheels on these bikes don't have cassettes; they have an older (rare now) setup called a "freewheel". Although these look like cassettes, they're not interchangeable with them. So to fit a different wheel, you would either need a wheel that could accept the freewheel from this bike, or you would need a conventional ("freehub") wheel with a 7-speed cassette. I think these rims are also wider than a typical road bike rim, to take the wider tyres these bikes use.

So, in short, my guess is that there's nothing wrong with these wheels that cleaning won't fix; and that if they ever need replacing you're better off with the Reid parts.

Hi! I'm 165cm and trying to choose between the S or L Vintage Classic Plus. Can I please check the lowest possible seat height from the floor for the L? I'm wondering if my feet would be able to reach the floor on the L-sized frame. Thanks!

If the bike is set up correctly, your feet should not be able to touch the ground when you're on the saddle.

what is the difference between the classic and the classic plus bikes?

1 answer
Reid Cycles
Lex G.Reid Cycles

Hi Amy,

The Classic Plus is simply the newest version of our ladies vintage bike in the classic range. Upgrades over the older model include stronger pannier, wider range of colours and alloy handlebars.

Both use a Shimano 7-speed system. Please note that there isn't many of the older classics available, so size and colour options are limited.

I hope this has helped! If there's anything else, please ask.
Kind regards,
Matt

I've ordered the large bike, I'm worried it will be the wrong size. Esprit model.
If it can be exchanged? I am no where near a store to test one but could go test another bike to see? Thanks

Hi Amy,

We do have a returns process for customers who order items online. If your bike arrives and it is the wrong size the you should contact the customer service team who can arrange for your bike to be sent back to warehouse. They can be contacted on (03) 9329 1222.

Please do not destroy any of that packaging the bike comes with as you will need it if the bike is to be sent back to us.

Hi! I'm 165cm tall, right on the cusp of small and large size bikes. Which do you think is the best size to get? Or does it not matter much?

1 answer
Reid Cycles
David F.Reid Cycles

Hi Steph L. Are you close enough to a store for a test ride..? That's always the best bet when on the cusp. With a bike like this though there is some leeway. How confident are you on a bike? If you're really confident I would say try the larger size, if a bit new then go the smaller. At 165cm you won't have trouble with leg clearance against the handlebars on the small frame (which is the main problem with getting a small Vintage bike) so it pretty much comes down to preference.

I could be wrong, but I would say no because the tyres are so thin.

Reid Cycles
David F.Reid Cycles

Hi Nomoney,

We recommend the max rider weight for the Ladies Vintage bike is 110kg. You can certainly ride the bike over this weight but the spokes (and potential subsequent damage to the rim) will not be warrantied if anything happens. 110kg is a pretty common limit for recommendations unless you are looking at a Mountain Bike.

Hope this helps.

David

Hey I need a light bike that can be carried easily by ladies. May I know the weight of diiferent models of this bike?

1 answer
Reid Cycles
David F.Reid Cycles

Hi Monir M,

Here is the weight breakdown:
Vintage Ladies 7-Speed Classic PLUS: 15.43kgs
Vintage Ladies Deluxe: 15.08kgs
Vintage Ladies 7-Speed Lite: 14.42kgs
Vintage Classic Singlespeed: 14.85kgs

To get much lighter you would need to look at our flat bar road bikes which come in under 11kg.

How tall are you? If under 157cm you could ride the Vintage Petite http://www.reidcycles.com.au/ladies-petite-vintage-24.html which weighs 14.3kg and is a bit smaller so easier to handle.

Thanks,
David

Hi,
Lookign at getting my wife one of the Ried bikes for her birthday. Is for weekend rides for exercise and leisure rides so not commuting. I take it a 7 speed is better then the single speed? What is the difference? We live in Darwin where humdiy is an issue for half the year in the build up and wet season so will this be an issue?
One bike shop has a assembly service which will use.

Hi Gusey. The 7-Speed Classic PLUS is a better bike. It has 7 gears which makes riding easier and now features upgraded stainless steel and alloy parts so it will handle the weather.

Hi, I would like to know what is the best to commute everyday, the 7 speed vintage bike or the deluxe? The issue is that there's a lot of hills near my house, so I don't know if this type of bike will be suitable for my situation.

Thanks

David F.Reid Cycles

Hi patriciatldavid. The Classic 7 speed offers a wider range of gears but the Deluxe is a higher quality bike all around (and weighs about the same). The lightest of the Vintage bikes is the 7-speed Lite http://www.reidcycles.com.au/reid-vintage-ladies-7-speed-lite.html

If you are near a store you can go for a test ride, otherwise please phone our Customer Service team (03) 9329 1222 and tell us a bit more about your riding - distance etc so we can consider your options. Thanks.

Hi Mojo. The small size would suit. As for the bike - they are all SAI safety certified and come with a lifetime frame and fork warranty, 2 years on parts and a 2 week satisfaction guarantee so you can return if you don't love it. Most customers find these bikes are outstanding value.

Hello, I am interested in the vintage 6 speed. I want a bike that is easy to ride around. Just to the beach and peoples places etc. But i want to be able to keep up as my current bike is like a chopper bike almost but is hard to ride.
I basically want to know is this fashion over function???

1 answer
Reid Cycles
David F.Reid Cycles

Hi, Rachael. Good question! The Reid Vintages Ladies bike has a retro look, but modern components mean that it's easy to ride. The 6-speed gives you a fairly wide range of gears so going up hills or into the wide won't be too tough. The chopper style bikes are fashion over function, but I'd describe our bikes as fashionable and functional. I hope that helps!
