The drive to the sanding belt slips. At no load, the sanding belt rotates, but as soon as I apply the tool to the work, the sanding belt ceases to rotate - the electric motor continues to run normally with no change in sound. Is there a clutch or a drive plate between the motor and the sanding belt which can wear or slip? Can it be replaced? Can you point me to an online tutorial that explains how this can be done?

You need the correct belt, once you release the tension lever it takes up the tension on the belt

Are you able to tension the belt so it doesn't slide to the inside?

I was not able to do so. The slightest movement of the adjustment took it from one side to the other. After a few belts and a lot of bad language,I put it back in the box and took it back for a refund. I bought a bigger, better one of a different brand.

I have found the adjustment available from the round knob at the left front to provide good adjustment. Run the sander sighting along the sanding surface from the front and experiment while adjusting the knob. The belt will change position as you adjust the knob. After a little experimentation you should be able tosettle it into a central position.
Make sure the belts are 76 x 533 mm. Some sanders use 75 x 534 and that 1 mm might perhaps make a difference.
It is also possible a different brand of belt might be made to a slightly different size or tolerance.

There's no tension adjustment knob on the belt sander I bought other than the one locks the rollers in place prior to use. My daughter misplaced the receipt so I was unable to get refund & belt sander was trash canned..!!

I tried FSG's procedure with out success. I then packed it up & took it back to Bunnings for a refund. In the past I have found Ryobi Products to be very good as I have Power & Battery Drills; Sanders; Drop Saw: Grinder & a circular saw. I ended up buying a Makitta & have had no problems.

I've had a similar problem infact I spent a lot more on buying several more sanding belts as it would curl up to one side and double up bringing the machine to a halt.It also has a problem with the lever that tightens the belt, heating is an ongoing issue.I was so frustrated that I ended up sanding by job by hand There seems to be a manufacturing defect...If its still under warranty - return it
