Broke 3 times in less than a year
My first TV developed the red blinking light problem with a blank screen within the 1st week. The new replacement TV developed the same fault after about 6 months, was repaired with a new power board, then broke again after a few months. Then I returned it for a refund. Never again.

Constant Failures
Purchase 2 Samsung UHD TVs one is great and the other is a lemon. It has failed 3 times with different problems and continues to have intermittent lock-ups where the remote functions stop working and the TV needs to be reset, had service out 3 times and they replaced boards, etc. but the TV is still a lemon and problems persist. Even today I telephone the Samsung customer care centre and the assistant reset the TV remotely which fixed the problem, however I needed to reset it again this afternoon. I even went and purchased a second original rem...Read more
ote based on Samsung's advice and still the problems continue. I have attempted to email Samsung requesting some firm action as my TV comes out of warrant in 2 weeks 27/11/15 and I don't want to be left with a $3500 lemon. I hope Samsung can come to the party in some way as I always thought of Samsung as a quality brand and my TV is not good enough and a clear waste of $3500.1 comment

Great TV
We were lucky enough to get this on a good special, we read reviews on curved TV's and they were middle of the road and most said not worth the extra money, as mentioned we got a good buy so if not on special we probably would have gone with a standard screen. after owning it for a while I would say if you can afford it buy curved and at least 65", I have seen a 55" model and I don't think as good, some reviews I read said glare and reflection were more of a problem with a curved screen, I would say they have never seen one as the glare and ref...Read more
lection is almost 0 compared with our 55" flat screen in the same spot, we use t see a reflection of curtains from a window on our flat screen and not on the curved, the voice control is excellent on this TV and we don't think big brother is watching as the TV only hears what your saying when you push the Mic Button which yturns off after a few seconds, this TV has too many features to write about but I have successfully conected my PC and Mobile Phones via Bluetooth and wifi and also via HDMI and my LG Home Theater System works fine with it, have watched a couple of UHD DVD's and also streamed some UHD programs and WOW what a difference, Samsung seems to have a few better apps including Foxtel, so yes don't beleive the tech reviews what you see in the store is what you get, I would recommend highly a curved screen of this size and above and after owning another leading brand 55 flat screen I'm glad I switched to SamsungSimilar opinion? Know better, choose better.
Great - Unless you're expecting a proper warranty.
Purchased this TV, immediately had issues, TV loses all sound and has to be factory reset to get it back which causes the TV 'smart' remote to lose connection with TV. Effectively giving you a TV with no sound and a remote, or a remote and no sound.
Samsung want it back so they can pull it apart and deem it faulty or not then repair it. Less then 2 Months old and up for repair already? What a joke!
Seems to preform well otherwise, but just don't expect much from your warranty 'repair or replace' - yeah right! Buyer beware!!

UPDATE: Now on 3rd TV! Samsung agreed to swap unit over for another that lasted less than 30mins before the screen blew up, now we are on our third. Fingers crossed this time! Save yourself the headache - don't buy!

is samsung ua55hu8500w 4k ready
3 answers
In Short........ no,
Isn't it a 4k UHD TV? Mine was (in Australia). So not just 4k ready, it's 4k all the time. You can't switch off half the pixels to make it 2k.

Hi Wayne, the HU8500 TV will require an evolution kit to be able to support HDCP 2.2 for new devices.

I have the same question as David W....is it UHD? I tried to connect to Foxtel iQ4 and the 4K native channel does not display. Samsung support tells me it is not UHD, only FHD.

It is UHD (4K) but this doesn't mean you can get 4K via every source. From some sources you'll just get FHD quality. (I got rid of my Samsung TV because it broke 3 times in 10 months. I'll never buy another Samsung product, ever, not even their phones. They're dead to me.)
Foxtel says: "To view Foxtel 4K, our 4K UHD Standard requires that your TV needs to have a resolution of 3840x2160, a supported refresh rate of 50hz and a HDMI 2.0 input that is HDCP2.2 compliant." Maybe your TV doesn't support HDCP2.2. According to www.foxtel.com.au/support/tv/troubleshooting/4k-compatibility.html, this TV isn't supported.
The TV manual says: "HDCP 2.2 can only use the HDMI(MHL) port." Also it says: "Your TV supports MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) via an MHL cable. MHL enables viewing and playing video, image, and audio files from mobile devices on the TV. However, MHL is only available through the TV's HDMI (MHL) port and only when used in conjunction with an MHL-enabled mobile device." I don't understand this but maybe it will help you.

Yes it's 4K, but I don't recommend it and personally will never buy another Samsung TV or any other Samsung product due to multiple bad experiences.
