Needs far better dealership back up and spare parts support
Purchased in Jan 2017 the T226 ran flawlessly for 18 months until May of 2018. It was taken to a local Shindaiwa dealer from whom it was purchased, where a kit of parts was fitted and allegedly tested. It was received back on May 29th.
I did not use for a day or two after it was "repaired".When I did try to start it the unit would not rev, only idle.
I returned it to the dealer to get them to complete the job they were paid to do. I heard nothing for a week and when I went there they said they had claimed warranty on a part-I understand it w...Read more

Shindaiwa 22t whipper snipper.
Purchased a shindaiwaiwa 22t line trimmer approx 14 yrs ago. Best damn thing I've ever purchased for the garden tool collection. Ever reliable, starts with ease, cuts hard, goes hard. On my second quick release head. Bit fiddly to feed line on but I've got 8 fingers and 2 thumbs, no problem. 1 x service. 1x spark arrestor pulled out of exhaust about 7 yrs ago. 3 x spark plugs and yes i bought it for a large suburban block but has done some heavy, long hours on bigger jobs and has been a tried and tested machine to be a true performer for me. Pay the extra, look after it. Well done SHINDAIWA for an excellent machine.

Ok when it works
Mine has gone in the bin after 5 years.
The first 4 years of service was great and the Shindaiwa spool feed system is the best I've seen.
The problem was the reliability of the petrol engine after 4 years. The final year was terrible...it would only start on occasion.
I striped down the carb, new plug, fresh fuel...nothing...took it to the shop and it stated first time for him.
And that summed up the machine, it started sometimes, and to get it professionally pulled to pieces for a thorough diagnostic check was going to cost to much.
My B&...Read more

Basically a great machine with some flaws
The auto feed spool like any other is prone to damage. The instruction book is poor on information such as length of cable on the spool and even the diameter required. Auto feeding spools ail sooner than later and are costly to replace.
I had a aftermarket aluminium bolt on unit - from an old line trimmer-that takes heavy duty cut to length line.
This suits me far better than farting around trying to load the auto spool in terms of time and fiddling around, plus the fact that the alloy spool is nearly indestructible.
The 22T unit is q...Read more
uiet, powerful and with little vibration. Maintenance is -let it cool and remove loose grass with the hose and a brush and let dry. Filter cleaning is easy-undo a thumbscrew - no tool required. I saw a few pro lawn cutters sporting this brand and asked one of them about them. The guy highly recommended them- so that was worth noting.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Totally frustrating
Owner's manual is short on information, eg how much line spool takes, what thickness, how to remove head, how to replace head.
Tearing hair out trying to get head off then again on. Wasting hours of time trying to sort it out.
small spool capacity
Not recommended for the average back yard gardener.

Possibly the best power tool I've ever used in my life
I've done extensive research before buying this. I bought this over Makita DUR181Z due to concerns that cordless trimmer may not have enough power and I don't regret it one bit. This is so easy to start, cuts through thick long grass like it's nothing. It's not overly heavy either so I didn't feel uncomfortable after using it for 2 hours straight.
Forget other cheap trimmers. This is the real deal and with 5 year warranty, you can't go wrong. The only criticism I can make is the instruction manual which is very lacking. It doesn't even explain how to replace the lines.

Very capabable line trimmer
Don't be fooled by the small engine capacity. I have had entry level line trimers with larger engines and they did not stack up against this machine. The 22cc 2-stroke engine has ample power for home use & even the engine note has a lovely 2-stroke crackle to it that sounds like a high performance engine.
Very easy to start. Reasonably light weight. Line head is easy to refill. Value for money machine.
I have a large block and in my opinion this would suitable for large urban blocks up to an acre.
In thick 2 foot high lush grass it can strugg...Read more

Well worth the money
Great trimmer, starts on the second pull every time even after being stored for a couple of months, the speed feed for the line is also a god send so easy and fast to fill it up,no more taking the head apart and messing around with springs that fly off and get lost.
The speed feed and build quality Japanese built, need I say more
It is pricey for a home unit but that said,I've spent more on cheap ones over the years, you will appreciate the quality long after the price is forgotten

Impressed
Got this from my old man as he doesn't have much of a garden any more so didn't need it.
Before that I had a homelite and ryobi but they had rotted away rubbers but that's something I could compare it too when they were running.
The Shindaiwa isn't as loud as them for sure and does a very good job, easier to start and better control.
It's long though, which is a plus for tall guys, but also that adds a lot of weight.
It seems my old man never used it at all though, because I quickly ran out of line and no attempt to feed would help. Seems ...Read more

I have a shindaiwa home pro 22t whipper snipper . Just wondering if I can get any other auto feed heads for it . The one I got last time was a speed feed 375 BRN 6839 . I have tried to see if there is one on the Bunnings website that is compatible. If so could you please let me know .

Shindaiwa don't actually make them anymore, you need to get one from a mower shop,Bunnings don't stock them the only thing close to it is the ryobi one, doesn't fit shindaiwa.
I got one from my local store, just google "speed feed 375" you need to make sure you get the correct one, they make two sizes and each size comes in bent or straight shaft, good luck with it all the mower stores in my area sell them.
To answer this question,no,as far as I know the only one that's suited is the speed feed brand, can I ask you why you want a substitute?
Go to "Cutabove" in Powers Road Seven Hills NSW.
they have got 2 types of line feeder, new to the market, which in line with all their products is very you beaut. They are adaptable to ALL makes of machines.
