Singer Promise 1409
I bought 1409 & have had nothing but problems with the thread tension. I preferred Singer but totally regret purchase :(
Sew CHAIR covers, costumes, pillowcases, hem trousers and general clothes. The overlocking used to be ok but after a short while the tension on that and straight stitching keeps breaking. I have done all the trouble shooting possible. Still no success :(
Purchased in May 2016 at Big W Retail Stores.

Would NOT recommend it at all
I bought this machine for my wife's birthday present several years ago. Thought it would be straightforward for a beginner to use. I simply can't believe how fiddly it is to thread the machine. I managed to get it threaded but then it wouldn't pick up the bobbin thread no matter what I tried. So we spoke to a lovely lady at a sewing shop who suggested it my be the timing. Took the machine over to her, she put it on the counter, threaded the cotton and lo & behold it picked up the bobbin thread - not the timing. Whoever designed this machine has never had to use it themselves. Quite honestly I feel like throwing over a cliff
Purchased in November 2016 for $198.
Biggest piece of rubbish I have ever bought
Absolute rubbish machine .. regret buying it now .. accessories are rubbish .. terrible threading system .. if I could return it I definately would .. it does not operate as it should .. cotton breaks every few metres .. constantly having to reset tension even using the same type of fabric ..

I'm SO disappointed...DONT RECOMMEND
I bought this sewing mashine for my mother as an early Mother's Day gift and helped set it up, the knob at the side was wonky and my mum used it ONLY ONCE for it it break off and the machine makes funny sounds and gets EXTREMELY hot every time you turn it on. I can't even take it back because I threw out the receipt with the box thinking it would WORK. im SOOOO disappointed and can't help but think the company sells broken ones that have been returned to new buyers. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!

Perfect for everyone from absolute beginners to experienced users
My trusty old Empisal of 16 years started giving me trouble so I decided it was time to replace it. My stepmother had a Singer for many years and was extremely happy with it so after much comparison of reviews I decided on the 1409 as it suited my needs best ie.easy to use and without too many fancy stitches that I'd never use for the general purpose I need a sewing machine for. This machine is incredibly easy to thread with little arrows showing you exactly how to thread it. Bobbin winding is a breeze. The manual is clear and the DVD is absolu...
Read moretely fantastic for absolute beginners. I really wish I'd had a dvd like this when I started out with my old machine all those years ago but they weren't around then. It would have saved me many frustrated hours. As with any machine so long as it is threaded correctly and the bobbin is wound correctly it shouldn't give you any problem at all. With such an easy machine and excellent DVD you can't go wrong!! Strong, sturdy and excellent reputation A cover would have been nice.Questions & Answers
I bought a singer promise 1409 and at first, the pressure foot lifter stays by itself at the highest position ideal to easily go around with my both hands on a thick fabric. But lately, when I pull the presser foot lifter in its highest position, it doesn't stay anymore. I need to hold the lever with one hand while the other hand trying to go around with the fabric. Those of you who has this model, is this normal or should I return it? Thanks!

I have heard some many people say bad things about this machine. That the bobin gets stuck continually
