Good, reliable car with reasonable off-road capability and respectable ground clearance, although not a 4WD. Ideal if you want a recreational vehicle for fishing, camping, mountain biking etc that drives like a passenger car. Good fuel economy, but 2.0 litre is a bit underpowered and you need to be fairly precise and deliberate with your gear changes. Mine has 118,000 kms, never missed a beat.
Comfortable, well appointed, heaps of storage places, standard equipment.
Low range 4WD seems to have no effect on gearing whatsoever. 2.0 donk is a bit underdone. Genuine spares prices are way over the top, manual gearbox can be a bit clunky.

    Forester 1997 Release (1997-2002)

I need to know if a 2000 Foerster gt turbo with 300,000kms would be worth buying and do they have strong long lasting engine's? As I used to own a AU ford With 4xx,000kms and it never missed a beat so I'm hoping Subaru made their cars/engines just as good

I cant really answer this as mines not old. But I love Japanese technology and all my landcruisers have gone beyond 350000 kms before i sold them to happy customers so I expect Subaru to be similar.

Why do my lights stay on even when the ignition is off?

You've probably knocked the separate park light switch that is on top of the steering wheel coloumn... turns park lights on with no need for key in the ignition.
