Dpf problem
Had our 2.0 diesel 7 months 17000klms do love the ride and practablity economy But don’t expect a new car to start having issues with dpf did the recommended burn off light went off thought that’s ok 2 days later back on . Very Disappointed not explained fully at time of sale as most people would think ho it’s only a filter ie like oil or fuel ho no did research it $$$$ to replace I voiced my concern the same week of purchase and was reassured long as it has a good run periodically you’ll be fine funny thing is the last month it’s been on long...Read more

So crazy we have these things in place to save the environment and people’s health yet do the manufactures in the countries that manufacture them have the same stringent things in place ?. and to be told you need to use the car to burn it off defeats the purpose of buying such an economical vehicle in the first place Fore warned is forearmed Subaru don’t even come in the top ten list of worse vehicles with dpf issues guess I’m just unlucky. Hope Subaru can resolve the issue or a petrol Toyota may be an option . When buying any car you should be able to drive as little or as lot without issue or should not be allowed to sell them

Best all round car.
I love my Subaru Outback diesel. It's easy to achieve 6L per 100ks. It's about $60 to fill the tank and I get about 1000ks out of the tank with my mostly highway driving. I have taken the car off road and never had a problem getting where I need to go. My favourite feature is the adaptive cruise control. With all the highway driving I do it's the best thing ever!! I've done 45,000ks and the tyre still have half the tread left. The only issue I've had was the 12v socket needed to be replaced and was done so free under warranty. The service cost is about $400 every 6 months they clean the car and give me a free loaner. Great service at crossroads Subaru in Glendale.

Problem sorted - expensive fix
After terrible engine stalling despite long journeys and trying to keep revs high ( told by subaru this car needs to be run at over 2000 revs to avoid carbon build up), I have been beaten by the lack of urgency to have this fixed, so just traded the car in and won't go near a subaru again.Only 18 months old and this has cost me over $15k.
Don't touch the diesel outback auto with the proverbial barge pole is my recommendation

I sold my Toyota Landcruiser 78 series for a 2014 2 litre Outback .... I wanted to downsize so I wasn’t expecting the same 4 wd performance from this toy as my Toyota, my complaints are as follows ... Speedo reads 5Kms high, therefore you travel 5 kms under the limit ... all Subaru’s are the same, I asked the service tech if they could access the cars computer and set an offset so it would read correctly but no Subaru have disabled that function on the tech’s computer software. t on a 2.5 hr trip. The GPS doesn’t display the speed (again Subaru had this function disabled by the supplier of the units) but it displays a useless altitude reading which can be as much as 45 meters out .. Useless ... my $200 Navman is far superior than the Subaru GPS .... the front head rests are set in a permanent unajustable 40 degree angle ... uncomfortable ... they don’t use carpet on the floors but something like Velcro, when the floor gets dirty vacuuming doesn’t get it clean, you have to lie there with tweezers pulling out the grass etc from the fibres of this floor covering. The plastic bits attached to the bottom of the doors have come away after 3,000 Kms ... held on with double sided tape ... what a joke .... these are not engineered cars but cheap junk ... do yourself a favour don't buy one, get a Holden, they are cheaper, with more options and more technology ... I will sell my Subaru Outback and go back to a Landcruiser ... these are complete junk and over hyped expensive disappointments. It's new

12 months and a further $3K in 15 months. I told them I'm not stupid, there is no way I would buy another one and loose a further $16K in 12 months, told them I was going to get rid of this thing and go back to a Toyota Landcruiser 200 series .... cut my losses !! ..... I said that at least Toyota held their resale value and they were a good vehicle ..... and she agreed !! As I stated in the beginning Subaru are just an over hyped boffin chariot. Just traded this in for a second hand 5 yr old merc diesel and it's a dram compared to the outback. I Lost money but subaru lost a potential long term customer through inaction and failure to fix an engine that's not fit for purpose.
