Pleased with our new Subaru Outback.
We are enjoying our new Subaru Outback 2L premium diesel. Bought in mid January, we've put about 5,000 k on it. We've been driving Toyota hybrids for 10 years and, much as we liked them, they aren't suitable for hauling around our bikes. So, having once had a Subaru Sportswagon, that we kept for more than 20 years, we looked at Subarus early on. But it was between Christmas and New Year and the Canberra dealer couldn't be bothered talking detail with us, offering to have a more detailed chat next time we were in. This didn't sit well because we...Read more
needed a car quickly. We seriously considered buying either a VW or Skoda wagon but when we heard that both companies provided poor service, we decided to have another look at Subarus. We went to a different dealer (Capital Subaru) and selected the Outback. We are quite happy with it. I do wish it would automatically lock the doors when we start driving, which all 3 Toyotas did. And i wish I didn't need to manually unlock the doors when we turn the engine off, but no doubt we'll get used to that. We were hesitant about the back gate which opens on the press of a button. To us it seemed like another thing that could go wrong and require expensive repairs. I can't say we love the push button opening. If you accidentally press the button twice, it starts to open and then closes. And its easy to accidentally set it to open only partly (a safety feature but really irritating if you accidentally set it to open only a foot). When it went in for its 1 month free service I mentioned that the front passenger door seemed to be rubbing the dashboard. The service agent seemed really skeptical (which also annoyed me). But when I went back to pick up the car he advised that the 'knuckleheads' who'd installed the window tinting and reinstalled the door side panel incorrectly. They have ordered a replacement side panel at no cost, obviously. The car runs well, we enjoy driving it, it seems to get slightly better mileage that the sticker suggested. It handles and performs well, the eyesight technology seems to be a really good feature and I've been pleased that so many acquaintances have mentioned the Subaru's Boxer Diesel engine (I'd never heard of it but I'm not that interested in cars). I would prefer that the surfaces on the dashboard weren't so shiny, because they show every speck of dust, but I knew that would be an irritation going in. So far no problems with reliability or running and my previous experience with Subaru, and ongoing word on the street, is that we'll continue to be happy with Subaru's service.

So far so good, Nice car.
Purchased nearly 12 months ago and love it, great to drive, love the adaptive cruse control and the other safety lane guidance and warning systems, to which you get use to having and would find it hard to put your wife and children in to another car without it.
Only gripe is the auto start stop, which is frustrating, annoying, stupid etc... etc... it is not smooth, i do not see how it is going to save you money due to the wear and tear on the starter and battery system. Asked Subaru to disable at first service to which was told they couldn'...Read more
t. later found if you have a tow bar fitted you just need to remove the magnet in the lid and it will disable the auto start stop. The other bonus is the insurance cost, 5 star ancap ratting and all the tech safety makes it cheep to insure. saving nearly $700 per year from the insurance on the old Toyota Prado. The vehicle does it job .
I was a bit disappointed initially . The driver's leather seat developed a wrinkles bulge after two weeks . Complainted to the dealership and after 3-4 visits and numerous phone calls the whole seat was replaced . The right front pillar cover start to come off after a month . The dealership fixed it .
No other major issues within the last 7 months . The vehicle is pleasant to drive, though the rear seat buckles are very difficult to fasten due to bad ergonomic design . Obviously, you need to do your research before you buy . I'd recomme...Read more

The best car I have ever owned.
This is an AWD vehicle that drives, handles and is as comfortable as a luxury sedan
Has the most up to date hi tech that I have ever seen in a vehicle. Like the eye sight pre collision warning system, radar cruise control, lane departure warning and so much more.
Is very economical average approx 7 litres per 100 kms.
The only criticism I have is the 6 month servicing which I think should be at least 9 or 12 months.
I purchased my vehicle new from Ballarat Subaru and cannot recommend them highly enough.

This is a brilliant car. So reliable and the safety features have to be seen to be believed.
This is such a brilliant car. Great styling, wonderful colours and fabulous quality. The safety features are state of the art and too numerous to mention. Do yourself a favour and buy one of these cars now. Don't wait. Just do it. Go, go, go. I can't believe how good this car is.

2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i: I LOVE THIS CAR
I love this car. I replaced my Q7 with the 2015 Outback and absolutely love it. It just goes.
No stupid maintenance issues, no stupid over-priced parts, it just works.
For the baseline model you would expect a basic interior, but it is genuinely solid feeling, comfortable, not tacky or tinny, and always smells nice.
The steering wheel construction is sturdy and luxurious, the dash presentation incredibly practical, and accessibility of its components too easy for even the most unseasoned driver.
I love its adaptive cruise control and fo...Read more

Best car have driven in a very long time
I average approx 50-60 thousand kms per year so I know this car well. It is very comfortable, economical, very well appointed and very capable off road much more than you would imagine. Quite quick with the 2.5lt petrol. Was concerned about the CVT gearbox but have no regrets and it genuinely feels like a standard auto. Subaru have excelled with this design. Well done!

It Glides
This vehicle glides. It is so smooth to drive. I drive interstate regularly and around town. The vehicle is comfortable and dash easy to navigate. I love the intelligent mode and reversing camera. I feel safe and confident driving this vehicle. Fuel economy is amazing, close to 800km for a full tank which is great for long drives. Fast acceleration helps when passing and I feel confident passing road trains and caravans because it has such smooth 'get up and go'. This vehicle will stay with me for a long time.

The SUV dreams can be made with The SUBARU Outback 2.0D Premium 2016
A solid very well built medium size SUV great for a retired couple touring anywhere in Australia, The excellent driving position and seats make the long distance driving enjoyable. The extra ground clearance gives me confidence on unsealed roads and tracks. The diesel engine is very fuel frugal and has plenty of grunt when tackling hills and overtaking. The big bonus are the safety features of "eyesight", lane changing alerts, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking and the sure footedness of constant all wheel drive. roomy and very practical. The innovation of folded roof raiis is a great practical touch. This is the 6th SUBARU we have owned since 1979 and is "all we'll drive!" After 21/2 years of ownership and 60000km the Outback is going strong with more outback extensive travels. Have now used Cooper Ultimate Tyres which are a more comfortable riding tyre over the original. I have an electronic "shuRoo" installed soon after purchase and it works well in regional and outback areas where kangaroos are a hazard. It's such a comfortable touring vehicle. Petrol 2.5l Third Subaru and each one gets Better. REALLY GOOD CAR!
I have owned a 98 Impressa RX, 05 Forester X, and now a 2015 Outback 2.5l Petrol. Note: Petrol not Diesel.
First two cars have been excellent and still going strong at 250,000km each plus so when I needed much more safety to compensate for a new job and a lot of City Driving risks I got a ex Demo white Outback with 2000km for $35,990 drive away.
It had a few extras included like mats, rear bumper cover,etc... but the real bonus was at the time I scored an extended End of Fin Year sale warranty offer taking it to 5years less the 6 months ...Read more
it had been registered as a demo. So all in all, I saved $4,000 and got longer 4.5 year warranty. Considering I expect to do 50,000km per year that cover until over 200,000 km of driving. Since pickup we have two minor warranty issues. Rear door lock would not work from outside - cable disconnected. Boot was misaligned. and something beep as open when not. Both fixed under warranty no issues. WHAT WE LIKE:2 comments

Subaru diesel outback DPF no longer an issue
My Diesel outback was clogging up with soot with short distance drive but it has been reset 6 months ago to auto clean so it's no longer an issue. We nearly sold the car for this reason but so glad we didn't. Very fuel efficient uses 6.5 litres/ 100 km. rural . One of the best car I've had. Great for travelling for family of 4. Very happy with our local Subaru mechanic.

DPF Problems
I have an Outback Diesel 2015 with 57000km, and since 50000 km, started having problems with DPF (diesel Particulate filter) when was 20 month old, I began having problems, the warning ligtht's disconcerting flashing, so I took it to the dealer (Indumotora one la dehesa chile) it was the first os many visits over the next 3 months, during countless attempts, the dealer's technicians reset the DPF light, installed software upgrades, clean the filter, and at last they had change the DPF itself.
but hard to trust it will last again 50000 km??
so I'm trying to have it change for a gasoline outback don't know if Subaru will do it, I do not trust Subaru Diesel anymore.

Very thirsty and poor off road ability with CVT
I picked up my Outback almost 12 months ago now. I must admit it was a step back from the previous car I owned being a Volvo XC60 diesel. The first thing I noticed was the drone (noise) from the transmission. It reminded me of driving in a ford falcon taxi. Also and I'm not sure if it's related but we all felt car sick when driving the Outback for the first few months. I think it was due to the wallowing of the cars handling. I hadn't noticed these things when I test drove but that was a quick 15min drive with the sales guy.
Driving off roa...Read more
d is dangerous....you need to be sure what you are going to encounter as the CVT can really catch you out. it'll limit drive to the wheels if it has to work to hard, leaving you standard. On the open road though it's smooth and easy to drive with the eyesight system taking car of the adaptive cruise. Urban traffic though and the car will eat fuel like a V8. I regularly get 15L per 100. the other thing is the full tank is small. so you feel like you are using more fuel because you are at the full station more often. I don't rate the dealers very highly but I guess thats a reflection of having previously dealt with Volvo who were exceptional.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

- flexible seating and storage (great boot in the Subaru but almost bought a mazda cx5 because of the 40/20/40 split which the subaru doesnt have)
- Comfortable, quiet and reasonably fuel efficient
- Good warranty (no - I bought mine two months before they brought out the five year warranty)

Seriously! The best car I ever had.
I have had many cars in my life. Some good, some mediocre. This is my second Subaru Outback. The first was a 2014 diesel one. A huge disappointment. Not that it was a bad car, but simply the diesel, because of its particle filter, is NOT suited for city driving. The filter cloggs up and if you do not act quickly, it can seriously damage your engine. So, I had traded in in for a 2016 2.5 Premium Outback. What a difference! This is an excellent car in every respect. Exterior has been re-designed to such a degree that it is now a very attractive v...Read more
ehicle. Chalk and cheese compared with the old Subaru. It now comes with a five year, unlimited kilometres warranty plus five year road assist. The premium comes with leather appointed seats, sun roof, heated front seats and a long list of goodies including rear camera, GPS, rain sensing wipers, keyless entry and many other gizmos you will surely appreciate. The cabin is spacious accommodating up to five people in comfort. The boot is huge and self opening. There is a full size spare wheel too. The wheels are attractive 18 inch alloys. The ride is very comfortable on good roads as well as off road. Constant four wheel drive is great too. The car sits beautifully and you feel safe in the wet. The highlight is the technologically advanced Eyesight driver assist system which, apart from other things includes the fabulous Adaptive cruise control. The petrol consumption is reasonable for a relatively heavy vehicle. I avarege 9.2 litres per 100 kilometres around Melbourne. On the open road the consumption dramatically improves. Melbourne to Geelong I averaged 6.5. You can constantly monitor the petrol consumption via centrally located trip computer. This is not a sports car. Acceleration is not breathtaking but good enough for safe overtaking. I also love the blue illumination of the dials. Incidentally, you can select this from a number of different colors available. The sound system is reasonable and on board infotainment is user friendly. The whole automobile gives you the sense of quality and luxury. Subaru had dropped their prices by a significant amout. Close to five grand I believe. So this outstanding vehicle cost me $44.000 drive away. The only thing I can criticize is the need for six monthly service which is capped though for the duration of the warranty. Good news also is that the car runs on 91 octane petrol. So, in conclusion, this is a remarkable car. Hopefully nothing will go wrong with the electronics a the car is packed with it. Highly reccomended!!1 comment

servicing. Most modern cars these days require once a year or 15000km service whichever comes first. I believe that the new Outback which is to be released sometime next year will have only once a year service. I will definitely upgrade my Subaru for the next Outback when released and available in Australia. The next Subaru will also have five year warranty which is the norm these days. In summary, this is an excellent vehicle particularly for longer trips. Then the consumption also decreases dramatically. We get about 6 lt/100km on the open road. sometime even less. Consumption around the city is higher, around 9lt/100km which is still quite reasonable for a car of this size. Still highly recommended, although I would wait for the new generation Outback now. I hasten to add that Eastern Subaru in Lilydale, Victoria, is incredible. Friendly, professional team you can trust.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent car and I love it, but a few minor bugbears
The 2015 3.6R Outback is a brilliant car. I love the performance, both raw power and agility on twisty roads. I am well used to CVT transmissions, my two previous cars (Mitsubishi Outlanders) had them. The Outback's is superb -- always in the right gear at the right time. I drove the Outlanders with the paddle shifts all the time -- no need to do so with the Outback. I have driven the Outback using the paddles shifts on mountain roads however, and it is a tremendous experience.
The car is extremely comfortable. Another reviewer complains abou...Read more

Another great car from SUBARU
This is an update on the original review below. My Outback diesel manual now has 168000km on it. Still running the original brake pads, still running the Castro’s Edge 0w-40 engine oil (changed every 12500km) and still gets 5.4 to 5.8 litres/100km ona trip. 9.4 towing 1500 kilo trailer.

d better fitout. Travelled 28,400km's so far without a hitch. 4 trips to Sydney and the fuel economy just keeps getting better on this trip. just last weekend, driving at speed limits and on cruise control 99% of the time did 5.2 litres per 100kms down the New England Hwy and 5.0 litres on the way back via Pacific Hwy. 2nd trip down I towed a 400 kilo trailer and got 7.4 litres per 100km's which was the same as my old petrol Outback did standard on a trip with no load. Diesel is definitely the way to go if you do highway driving. It's quiet, roomy, good power on hills and economical with a long list of features. Now all its got to do is last 350,000kms like all the other Subaru's we've owned. July 6th, 2016 Update: Update on 2015 diesel premium 6 weeks to go and the car will be 12 months old. Has already clocked up 52,000km's. All the servicing has been done by Subaru Mt Gravatt. Nothing but servicing so far. Asked for a Dilution percentage read out each time and has never been over 3%. Mixed driving, mainly highway, with every 2nd weekend with some sort of trailer on it. Highway fuel consumption has settled down to 4.9 L/100km's on a trip to Sydney with 4 in the car. (had 5 now) Weekly work route sees 5.4 L/100km's. Got nothing bad to say about the car. Its got plenty of power for overtaking, has a huge boot, the roof racks have been handy on 4 occasions now. Tyres still have plenty of meat on them. They get rotated every 10,000kms. No squeaks or rattles. I guess you get the best out of a car if you use it for the right purpose. This car was meant for highway travel, not putting around the city doing short runs.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good car let down by dodgy ergonomics
Bought an Outback to replace our aging Prado. The CVT takes a bit of getting used to but it works well enough. Great interstate car (drove it from Queensland down and back to South Oz) - quiet, economical ( av. 7.1l/100k, low 6.2l/100k) and seemingly strongly built. Nothing rattles or vibrates and there are plenty of nice touches in the cabin.
However, the bugbear is the really uncomfortable driver's seat. It's fine around town but any stint in it over a few hours results in an aching back and legs. I haven't had any trouble in any car...Read more
until I bought the Outback. I drove my old ute over to WA and back without suffering any pain. Problem may have been fixed by fitting one of the electrically adjustable seats from the Premium model but apparently you can't retro fit them. Things I like: Quiet, economical, strongly built, good tourer Things I don't like; The appalling drivers seat If you're going to buy an Outback, spend the extra coin and get the Premium model with the better seats - the base model seats are (literally) a pain.Similar opinion? Hard to pass by
Ultimate long distance cruiser. Lots of rear legroom. Easy on fuel compared to previous 2008 Liberty. Runnung Costs are low. Insurance costs are low. Starts first time every time. Luggage capacity is large. Extra power sockets handy. Full-sized spare tyre is appreciated. GPS SatNav can be slow to respond but works fine otherwise. CVT takes a bit of getting used to if you have not used one before. Finding it hard to better the specs for the price.

After nearly two years of ownership the car still shines. Service prices have been better than for the 2008 Liberty I had previously Maintenance has been minimal and the car has been around 9 litres per 100km in the city. Still love this car.
Another year later, have found out that a GPS update will cost me despite having a written promise that it is covered by normal servicing. at nearly Au$300 for this simple update, it is price-gouging at it's best. Bad move Subaru.

Not 100% Perfect
9 months since delivery. Comfortable drive for city and interstate driving. However simple areas needed more attention, like no automatic central locking when the vehicle drives off - this features is available in a $20K Holden Cruze. Sat Nav outdate already and often incorrect, driver can't control all the windows if the window lock is on for child safety. Overall the vehicle is excellent for its price point and provides excellent features and technology as standard, where as other manufactures you would have to pay an arm for but if the simple everyday required features were given attention at the design stage, it certainly would be 100% perfect. This is my second Subaru and would most likely buy another next time.
