Does a Suzuki swift 2011 have a chain or belt for the timing and does it have to be changed?

It has a timing chain, and doesn't really have a regular replacement schedule. Generally only if you have problems. They usually get noisy before anything major happens.

Suzuki swift 2014 auto navigator, just had front brakes replaced and still squealing had it back to dealer 3 times and they tell me they cant find an issue... also i need to update the garmin satnav, is there a cost involved ? And is it easy to do, as im not that computer savy...

Hi Hawk,
There can be numerous reasons for squealing brakes ; brake dust build up, not machining rotors before fitting new pads, incorrect fitment of pad retention clips and so on. If you are unhappy with the noise, have an independent brake specialist listen to them, and give you an opinion. Its easy for dealerships to dismiss customers concerns around a lack of their knowledge. An independent expert opinion will help you gets some accountability from your dealership. One of the main reasons i dont use dealership mechanics is because they are unapproachable by the customer. The service manager is the point of contact and he is not the one that works on your car. Really hard to get the bottom of things in situations like this.
As for your Sat Nav update. There is a process of downloading a later version of maps to a new blank SD card. You can't download updates to the older card. But if your not computer savy, its probably going to be easier to either get someone else to do it or purchase one from ebay. The price will vary depending whether you want a genuine suzuki product or an aftermarket version.
Hope this helps

Hi my swift sometimes will not drive off after stopping in traffic. I have to restart to correct the issue. What can I do?

Hi Robwayn,
Im presuming that your talking about an automatic transmission. Ive never owned an auto swift but this is what id do if it was my car. Provided that you are seeing no other problems with your transmission like, intermittent gear change issues or unsual sounds and youve had regular servicing carried out.
What you have stated as a stand alone issue sounds unusual so my first guess would be that its electronic in nature. Your engine talks to your transmission through an engine management system. By turning the car off and on its almost like a soft reset of that system. Id be getting a mechanic to connect a scan tool to the engine management system and checking for problems there as the first step. Its quick and simple and shouldn't cost much as a starting point. Hope this helps in some way.

Hi I have a 2015 SWIFT SPORT AUTO. Yesterday we noticed a weird sound which increased as we increased speed then went away at 80kmh. To me it sounded like something was stuck in the wheel and was catching as we drove the car. My husband jacked the car up and spun the wheels and found nothing. He now thinks its a gearbox problem. Any ideas?

I have a lot of experience with a similar sounding noise, in my 2005 Swift S manual. I would suggest looking at your wheel bearings. I did drive with a worn wheel bearing for 18 months without a breakdown, so do not worry too much haha once I replaced the right wheel bearing, the noise stopped completely.

Is there someone who knows whether semi-automatic suzuki swift ever had any issues?

I am not sure what you mean by "semi automatic" - perhaps CVT? Suzuki dropped CVT Continuously Variable Transmissions and returned to conventional automatics. Half of the motor industry is embracing CVT's and the other half DCTs - Dual Clutch transmissions. But I don't know why Suzuki reverted back, dropping CVT. I suggest you go on YouTube and look for videos from "Auto Expert" John Cadogan, He will answer your question by email, for sure. I think you will enjoy watching any of his videos.

I personally think it could be fixed, try looking up this problem in your user manual. If there is no answer in the manual I would go to the dealership and talk to them about it. They would know about these problems.

Turn on the ignition and press the trip button a few times to select the fuel information that you need. Directions are in the handbook for the various functions.

I have a 2014 Suzuki Swift Gl Navigator. The right and left mounted steering stereo controls will not work to go to your next or go back to your previous radio preset station rendering it almost useless. Does anyone know how to fix that? Suzuki dealership tells me Suzuki Australia knows and that's why they stopped using garmin in newer swifts right after mine. Is there a way to fix the stereo mounted control to work properly like it was advertised to/like the book says it should. Or can I have the garmin unit pulled out and replaced with a different system? Is that a possibility to rip the entire system out so i never have to deal with garmin and just have a better system installed.

Hi, i got a suzuki swift 2015 and the check engine stay on for one day and then disappear. What should i do in this case?

Craig B

Give these suggestions a go, courtesy of Kate Daily from AxelAddict. If it hasn't come back on after it went off I wouldn't be too worried. If it continues to come on intermittently it could be an electrical or mechanical problem which would probably need an OBD reader to check for problems. A mechanic could help you there.
1. Drive Your Car and Let the Light Go Off by Itself
The first and easiest method for clearing the check engine light is driving and time. Most onboard computers will recheck whatever problem caused the check engine light to activate multiple times. Drive your car as you normally would. If the check engine light is still on after three days, your problem may not have been fixed or you may need to try some of the methods below to reset it.

2. Turn Car On and Off Three Times
Some vehicles will automatically reset the trouble codes that caused the initial error after the vehicle is turned on and off three times in succession. To do this, insert your key into the ignition, turn the vehicle on for about a second, and then off for about a second. Repeat this two more times then drive the car as normal. Check to see if the check engine light reset.

3. Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery
You will need a wrench. Prop open the hood and use the wrench to disconnect the positive power cable to the vehicle battery. Leave the battery disconnected for at least 15 minutes. Then put your key into the ignition and turn it three times to the “ON” position. This will clear the emissions data from the vehicle memory as well as the readiness flag data.

Reconnect the positive battery cable and turn the key in the vehicle ignition. Wait one minute and the check engine light error should be gone.
