Hi, I've got a suzuki swift sports 2012, just got the battery changed and now my fuel range reading is way way off, usually reads 550 when I got my car fueled up, But now it's reading 370, what should I do to fix it?

Hi.I haven't replaced my battery yet so I don't know how to get the fuel range working correctly.Replacing the battery on any car is a normal thing to do.I would check the Owners Manual to see if there is some kind of way of resetting the fuel range to work correctly again. If not,I would only take it to any Suzuki dealership where they will know exactly what to do and I doubt very much they will charge you.I'm sorry I could not be of more assistance as like I said I haven't replaced my battery.

The last few days I have noticed a change in the steering but just slightly and now when I go over 60kmph It sounds like I have a flat tyre but all tyres are fully aired. It makes this noise on a straight flat road as well as any other type. What could this be?

1 answer
Louie1970
Louie1970

Hi.Is the noise coming from the front or rear?I am not a mechanic by trade but it could be something as simple as maybe needing a wheel balance and wheel alignment.I would suggest taking it to a reputable mechanic or a Suzuki dealership. You need to diagnose the problem and although dealerships charge more than normal mechanics you get better peace of mind as well as warranty on the repair.I am sorry I cannot answer your question but it is like asking how long is a piece of string. The car needs to be looked at and more than likely it will be something simple and cheap.

Does 2011 Suzuki timing belts need to be changed past 100,000 Klms ?
Is it expensive if so ?

2 answers
TheAnswerIs
TheAnswerIs

No. The engines in the Swift use a timing chain that should last as long as the car. As per 99% of cars, the accessory drive belt will need replacement as per service book schedule and this isn't expensive.

BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

As stated above, Suzuki have fitted timing chains which run in engine oil and can outlast the vehicle, unlike the expensive timing belt renewal in other cars. You can just enjoy driving Your suzuki swift past 100,000 klms knowing that a timing belt is not going to wear and break. Suzuki swift's are made in Japan and that is where the best vehicle's are made... BUGBUYER LEE

I have a 2012 1.4 auto swift & the speedo's not working . any ideas? Thanks

My only guess would be, that a cable is still used on the speedo. So check if You can see the cable end screwed into the gearbox. Normally the cable is screwed into the back of the speedo on one end and screwed into the gearbox at the other end. Did the needle fluctuate [bounce about] before it stopped working? That is the normal thing in older cars when the cable breaks, it breaks bit by bit. Whether the inside of the cable is still steel I don't know. They used to be made from many small wires in the shape of a square. I don't think the cable broke, [not a common failure these days] but I'm thinking that the inner cable may have moved at the speedo end???? and is no longer driving the needle etc.??? So the only thing I can think of is to undo the cable on the gearbox and see if You can push the inner cable inwards slightly... while turning the inner cable with Your fingers.. anti clockwise...
or - if the cable at the speedo has come loose???? not a common fault.. they used to be screwed onto the back of the speedo... but they are probably made of plastic these days...??? and maybe clip on???? As You probably realise, getting to the back of the speedo isn't that easy...
It is a very rare occurance these days for the speedo to stop working.....

Not my strong point. Was the car sold in Australia as new? If it is 2nd hand ex Japan there may be some protocol issues. If you jump on some of the dedicated Swift forums you may have more luck or hey ho, hey ho...it's off to a Suzuki dealer you go.

I have a 2012 swift 1.4l glx and wanting to know if it has a timing belt or chain?

The 1.4 is unique in that it runs off a replaceable Power Band. If your Swifts PB hasn't been replaced since 2012 you should call your Suzuki dealer today and ask about a replacement. Installation is simple...all you will need are a glass hammer, left handed screw driver and a long wait...two short waits will do just as well.

BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

The Suzuki Swift has a timing chain which runs in the engine oil. It should really last forever unless the engine is revved really hard a lot of the time. Then it can be replaced... if needed... but they don't have to be changed every 100,000 klms etc as the belts do... Saving You a lot of money..... Lee Bugbuyer

Just changed my battery in my 2011 glx swift. We didnt need one. But due to being given a battery with the terminals around the wrong way it blew a fuse. But as soon as we connected the correct battery everything was working fine.

I only did a couple of gas consumption checks on my 1600 Swift. In old money it was doing approximately 36 or 37 mpg on a regular mixed urban/rural commute over some slightly hilly terrain.

Hi,

My dash back lights and headlight reminder (when left on) are not working. any ideas?

1 answer

Locate the fuse box (most likely in the engine bay - under the bonnet). On the underside of the fuse box lid there may be a clue as to which fuses protect which electrical systems. Identify the fuse which protects dashboard lighting and replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage. There's normally a couple of spare fuses clipped into the fuse box. If that doesn't work or is too tricky for you phone a friend or pop into any car workshop...it shouldn't be a big fix.

Hi what is your fuel economy on your swift auto? 1.4l engine I find the computer read out quite inaccurate at 6.1l/100km when calculating at the bowser it's more like 7'ish. Mind you maybe the engine just need to run in a little to relax a bit

3 answers
BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

Hi Paul. Yes, as the engine wears in, the fuel consumption should get better, but remember someone who pushes the accelerator down aggressively will use more fuel than someone who gently pushes down on the accelerator. Also, Hills make a huge difference in fuel consumption. Although I see there is a big difference between the 6.1l/100kmh reading and the 7.l/100kmh at the bowser. I haven't actually looked at Mine as it "seems" to get great consumption, but living in the country without stop/start driving all the time means better economy. I shall have to check My consumption to see if there is any major difference. I would think that fuel bowsers would be accurate seeing they do get calibrated... Has it shown the same differences at different service stations? BUGBUYER

hi BugBuyer,

I did another test so far the car has nearly done just under 1k, and it's around 6.6L. I wonder if I should fill it with BP Ultimate once in a while to see what the results would be like :-) Thanks for your answer. Would be good if we could a comparison.

Hello all, purchased a 2015 SSS and am pretty happy with it. Quite fun to drive. Sorry in advance for these stupid questions...but does anyone know how to 1) update the Garmin navigation system and 2) turn off the voice navigation? My system is either seriously out of date or the nav system is very simple and not very useful. For the voice nav, I have done what the user manual suggests for cancelling the voice nav...but it continues. Thanks in advance for any assistance

Hi, Sorry I cannot help with Your question, as I am still in a learning curve with the navigation/phone audio and text audio system. I thought You had to push the button on the LHS of the CD disc slot to turn the voice on/off. Although I see an icon of two big red lips on the screen at times. My Wife drives the car mostly, and I noticed yesterday, that Her SMS messages were on the screen and when I pressed something, the messages were read out.. The actual navigation system seems to work OK when I turn it on, as My Wife doesn't use it as She knows where She is going.. lol.. The actual Navigation system seems very complicated to Me.. it does just too many things to remember. You may have to take the car back to a Suzuki dealer as some software problems can only be fixed by them... BUGBUYER

I believe this is just an error by someone who typed it incorrectly into the computer. I read recently that a large people mover vehicle was listed on the registration papers as a hatchback??? Once its in the computer as a wagon it will probably be listed on your rego as a wagon forever...
BUGBUYER

Raj

all 5 door hatched are registered as Sedan. 3 door as hatchbacks, 2 door depending on shape - coupe... wagon is refer to SUV, I will recommend it to be check and alter with your local road transport authority.
